SEBI registers and regulates stock exchanges, collective investment schemes, merchant bankers, and other market intermediaries. It is responsible for prohibiting fraudulent and unfair trade practices, insider trading, and substantial acquisitions of shares without prior disclosure. SEBI aims to promote the development of the securities market and regulate the business of stock exchanges, subsidiaries, merchant bankers and other market intermediaries.
