Certificated Employees Appreciation Week,
May 4-8 Educators make our schools great!
As we celebrate Certificated Employees Appreciation Week, it’s a good time to reflect on how
teachers and other certificated staff make Clover Park School District schools great places for
our students to learn and grow. Many of our schools recently received Washington Achievement
Awards. Without the dedication of our district’s certificated staff, these schools would not have
received these honors.
Visiting classrooms and events this school year, I’ve noted the dedication of our teachers, who
have a passion for helping students learn and achieve all they can. Countless hours have been spent
preparing for the new Smarter Balanced Assessments. I’ve also seen the great work performed
by counselors, assessment specialists, school psychologists, speech language pathologists,
occupational therapists, physical therapists, school nurses, librarians, social workers, mental health
specialists, deans of students and athletic directors.
I would like to personally thank the more than 900 certificated staff who dedicate their time and
energy to make a difference for our students every day!

Hundreds of Comcast
employees and their families
joined Custer Elementary staff
and families on April 25 to help
update the school for Comcast
Cares Day. On Comcast Cares
Day, Comcast employees,
their families, friends and
community partners volunteer
and make change happen in
local communities. A Comcast
employee’s child attends Custer
and he suggested the school as
a project site. This is the first
time Clover Park School District
(CPSD) has partnered with
Comcast for the Comcast Cares
Day event.
“We are very excited and
grateful Comcast chose Custer
Volunteers give Custer Elementary a facelift
Elementary as the site for their
‘Comcast Cares Day,’” said
CPSD director of community
relations Kim Prentice. “Custer
has a number of great volunteers
who help in classrooms every
day. Having Comcast employees
and other volunteers working to
beautify the school extends our
community pride.”
The volunteers laid new bark,
planted flowers, painted the
curb lines for the bus drop-off
and replaced parking signs along
with other activities.
Custer was built in 1953.
Despite Custer being an
older school, the district’s
maintenance and operations
staff does a commendable job
maintaining
and providing
a clean and
safe learning
environment
for students
and staff. The
Comcast
Cares Day
event extends
the work of
the district’s
maintenance
staff.
