In the United States and internationally, there is a multitude of indicators that the racial environment is changing. Environmental pollution and racism
are connected in more ways than one. The world is unconsciously aware of environmental intolerances, yet continues to expose the poor and
minorities to physical hazards. Furthermore, sociologist continue to study "whether racial disparities are largely a function of socioeconomic
disparities or whether other factors associated with race are also related to the distribution of environmental hazards" (Mohai and Saha 2007: 345).
Many of these factors include economic positions, health disparities, social and political affairs, as well as racial inequalities. A large number of

Hazards and pollutants are apparent in a variety of outcomes. Possible outcomes include asthma, cancer and chemical poisoning (Gee and
Payne–Sturges 2004: 1647). Furthermore, "Although debated, the main hypothesis explaining these disparities is that disadvantaged communities
encounter greater exposure to environmental toxins such as air pollution, pesticides, and lead" (Gee and Payne–Sturges 2004: 1647). Therefore,
disadvantaged groups, such as people of color and the poor, experience greater environmental risks. Additionally, "Blacks in particular are exposed to
a disproportionate amount of pollution and suffer the highest levels of lead and pesticide poisoning and other associated health problems" (Jones and
Rainey 2006: 474). People of color, essentially, compete to live healthily. For example, African
–Americans and Africans alike, struggle with the
negative affects of oil refineries and unresponsive governments. The same can be said for Hispanics in California and the natives of Ecuador, who are
forced to cope with the pollution of the Texaco oil refineries (Bullard 2001: 4). Environmentalracism not only exploits natural resources, it abuses and
profits from the communities involved. Governments and polluting facilities will continue to capitalize on the economic susceptibilities of poor
communities, states, nations and regions for their "unsound" and hazardous operations (Bullard 2001: 23).

Summative 1: Racial Injustice Racial injustice has been a recurring problem in the United States. Americans didn't talk about how the blacks were

The issue was never looked at on an international level and therefore was never addressed as a real problem, it stayed a local Somalian topic and
never amounted to anything on a larger scale.
Another interesting example of injustice against a group of people is the Cambodian genocide. The hardships and the pains that the Cambodian
people went through during the mass genocide of the people of Cambodia were horrible and was largely overlooked by the rest of the world. The

A personal experience of injustice I faced was being bullied for my weight when I was a child. Since I lived in a Middle Eastern household, I would
come home to an array of delicious, home–cooked meals every day. Even when I would visit my aunt, she would also have a delicious, home–cooked
meal ready for me right when I walked through the front door. I'm not writing this to assign any sort of blame for my family, but they definitely
played a vital role in causing my poor eating habits. My family instilled a reward system with me and food. The more I ate, the more positive
reinforcement I would get. They had endless love and one of the ways they would express it was by giving me as much food as I could have.
When they were younger, they didn't have endless access to food so they feel as though they are giving us what they didn't have growing up.
They're not the most educated when it comes to overall health and fitness so they didn't think they were doing anything wrong but, when it comes
down to it, they are the main reason why I was overweight as a child. With that being said, every time I saw any type of food, I would want to eat it.
Around the age of ten, I ate and drank anything in sight. I didn't have anyone around me educating me about the dangers of overeating, so I would eat
without a limit and around the age of eleven, I became the most overweight I have ever been.

Injustice was a big part of To Kill A Mockingbird and impacted the whole town of Maycomb in different ways. "'I never wanta hear about that

When Atticus tried to talk, Mr. Gilmer would yell at him to be quiet. After the trial was over, Jem and Scout got attacked by Bob Ewell. He
attacked them because the kids were against him in the trial. Boo Radley came in quickly, saved the kids, and killed Bob Ewell. The people of
Maycomb would give the Finch family weird looks on the street and talk dirty behind their back. When Calpurnia brought Jem and Scout to her
church, one of the black people got in their faces and asked them to leave. "'He reads all right, that's all he does,'"(218). To Kill a Mockingbird had

To Stand or not to Stand (up Against Injustice) In this day and age, there are still many forms of injustice taking place where liberties guaranteed by
founding documents such as the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are being violated. We can see this occur from basic privacy

The DACA program is offered to illegal immigrants who were brought as children, who did not have a say if their parents were going to move or
not, and many of them not aware of any laws that they were breaking (von Spakovsky). Many of these recipients have been in the United States as
long as they can remember and know the US as their only home. It would be unethical to deport them to a foreign country that they may know
nothing about. The DACA program represents what the country was founded on: "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," the same unalienable
rights that many DACA recipients are being deprived of in their country of origin, and their parent's reason for immigrating here in the first place.
DACA also does not give these immigrants any special benefits, and they often have to work harder than their legal counterparts. They have to earn
everything they receive and also have to pay tax to receive legal status. The DACA program protects victims of injustice and does not really have any
adverse effects. The only potential issue with it is that it may be somewhat unconstitutional in the sense that the president may be 'abusing' its power by

In the words of Martin Luther King Jr. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" (para 1). Injustice has been around for centuries and has
affected many people from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the height of the Civil Rights movement in 1963 where he was arrested for protesting
without a permit and put into jail. Henry David Thoreau who refused to pay taxes in protest of the Mexican American war and slavery spent a night in
jail. Matthew Sheppard was brutally murdered for being openly gay in the small town of Laramie, Wyoming. These three victims of injustice all have
stories as seen in King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail", Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience", and MoisГ©s Kaufman's "The Laramie Project".
In 1963, at the height of the Civil Rights movement, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was leading demonstrations in Birmingham, Alabama.
When a court order was issued forbidding demonstrations, King, who advocated obedience to the law, decided for the first time to break an unjust

Yes it may be a totally different scenario worth fighting for, however it is the way you go about fighting for something you believe in that makes the
difference. In the case of the Loving couple from Virginia however, they went to courts and were turned down, but in the end got what they wanted. In
the case of same sex marriage and the social injustices against it, the best idea would be to take a legislative approach in order to find change.
Due to the fact that violence and riots usually don't get people very far, a legislative approach would be the logical and realistic way to make the
best change, after a legal approach with courts. By taking it to the legislature, this would allow for a law to be made which could not reject
couples of the same sex to get married, and doing so with the intentions of not using violence. Might Fight would definitely not be a good idea
here, as there is no war to be fought, and a war fought over not allowing same sex marriages would just not be appropriate. Civil disobedience
would also not be the best option, as you are not trying to disobey a law which you disagree with; rather you are trying to allow for something that is

There comes a time, in most citizens' lives when they must stand against their government to produce change. Change can only be acquired if people
take the necessary actions for it to take place. Nelson Mandela was a historical revolutionist who helped his people in Africa, to revolt against the

While many allows injustice to continue, some individuals take a stand against injustice by speaking up and taking action. Standing up against

For instance, if we accept that discrimination is wrong within ourselves, then this injustice is less likely to happen, but if we believe that discrimination
is right then this injustice is more likely to be repeated. We as humans are destroying our own peace and stability. We are creating division amongst

After watching the TED talk by Bryan Stevenson "We need to talk about an injustice" I became more aware of the injustices upon certain groups in
society. Whether it is the poor, the African Americans, the white, etc. there are controversial things that happen in the united states and many of these

I think that if someone is sentenced for a serious crime they deserve to live the rest of their lives in prison. What if someone was wrongfully
convicted of a crime they didn't commit, is it still okay for that person to be sentenced to a life in prison or worse the death penalty? No, if someone
has been wrongfully indicted then their case should be looked into to prevent that person from living a life in prison for something they never did.

Injustice Reflection Paper
The story that I'm going to be talking about that is an injustice that was unfair in my eyes is something that happened to me in the 2nd grade. Even
though this happened such a long time ago I still think about it to this day and its like a ghost almost haunting me when it pops into my head at
random times. It may have not been that bad in someone else's eyes but in mine being only 7 years old and never getting in trouble before this
especially not as bad as this it was very traumatic.
This is the story of what had happened with the injustice that happened to me. One day during class I had decided to go to the restroom and the
restrooms were in portables. We had to walk a bit away to the bathroom. As I was walking to the bathroom portables I saw a girl run past me who
also came from the bathroom but I didn't think anything of it. When I got to the restroom I noticed that the janitor was at the restroom doing what
he needed to do but wasn't there. His cart had just been there so I assumed he was off somewhere else. I did my business then as I was coming out
the janitor came up to me and started yelling at me. I was confused because I was just going to the bathroom. He was saying things about how I
thought it was real funny to lock the stalls from the inside while the janitor was there. I simply said I didn't do it but the janitor of course didn't
believe me because who would believe a 7–year old's word. The girl who was running away had been the one to lock the stalls from the inside so that
the janitor would have a hard time while he was doing his job. Since I was in the scene of the crime they assumed it was me even though numerous
times I tried to tell them that it wasn't me who had did it. He took me to the principals off explaining to the principal what happened and what I had
done. Again, I tried to tell the principal that I didn't do it but again they didn't believe me. I ended up getting a referral for something that I didn't do.
I was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. No one ever ended up believing me on the situation expect for my mother. When I had to tell her
about the referral she was the only one who had believed my story.

In our school system we are forced to learn history such as the Civil Rights Movement. We are taught that racism is no longer alive with in our society.
This discrimination is evident with in our community which has started some movements to battle the issue of racism and the discrimination. Some
