Both of them have the ultimate goal of preserving free will and giving people choice into what they want to believe in. A main difference between
the two is that as stated, "it shall be the duty of the Legislature to pass such laws as may be necessary to protect every religious denomination in the
peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship" (Article 1 Section 6). So there is more input by the Texas government, in comparison to the
US Constitution which is much broader. If there is an inconsistency, according to the Supremacy Clause, "the federal government in exercising any of
the powers enumerated in the constitution, must prevail over any conflicting or inconsistent state exercise of power" (Legal Dictionary). This means if

The Three Branches
The plan to divide the government into three branches was proposed by James Madison, at the Constitutional Convention of 1787. He modeled the
division from who he referred to as 'the Perfect Governor,' as he read Isaiah 33:22; "For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our
king; He will save us." http://www.eadshome.com/QuotesoftheFounders.htm The founding fathers of the American Constitution divided the
government up into the following three branches to prevent the majority from ruling with an iron fist; legislative, judicial, and executive. The three

The United States of America was established on July 4th, 1776 liberating itself from British rule. Alongside it grew in many aspects but also needed to
improve others. Living off the British before, the U.S. now had to start making "independent" decisions as an "independent" nation. The United States
of America suffered from political, economic, and diplomatic crises throughout the 1780s shaping provisions of theUnited States Constitution. The
American Revolution was shadowed by an unembellished economic depression in 1784 and 1785, forcing many states to execute charges on goods
from other states to raise up the governments revenue. State governments in the 1780's did not embrace public rule and wanted separation of powers.

Once the Constitution was ratified, the control of funding and repayment of the debt passed to the federal government. During the Philadelphia
convention multiple compromises were made, the Great Compromise being one of them. The Great Compromise benefited both the small states and
the larger states, by setting up a two–house legislature. Before that the smaller states had proposed the New Jersey plan which was made up of a one
house legislature with an equal amount of representation. Larger states of course thought it was unfair so they proposed the Virginia plan. The Virginia
plan was made up of a two–house legislature, lower house being elected by the people and the upper house elected by the lower house. The Great
compromise unified both ideas and established the two–house legislature, the lower house still elected by the people but the upper house now elected
by the state legislatures to give states equal representation. Slaves were of much discussion and had to be decided on whether they should be counted

The US Constitution: Past, Present, And Future
The United States Constitution was inscribed in 1787 and is still used today as the primary document for the government. Many argue whether it is
applicable in modern times or if it means exactly what it says. However, it is and will continuously be used in the ever–changing United States' society
as the governing contract since amendments can constantly be proposed. The United States Constitution is considered a "living document" as it grows
with the country and the issues develop. Many problems arise now that were not an issue in the time the U.S. Constitution was, such as, abortion, gun
control, and same–sex marriage. However, the Founding Fathers proposed a solution for this as they knew that the times and issues that America faced

The U.S. Constitution Essay
A constitution is a written document that sets forth the fundamental rules by which a society is governed. Throughout the course of history the United
States has lived under two Constitutions since the British–American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain in 1776. First in line was
the Articles of Confederation (1789–1789) followed by the Constitution of United States of America (1789–present). The Articles of Confederation was
the first formal written Constitution of America that specified how the national government was to operate. Unfortunately, the Articles did not last
long. Under the words of the Article's power was limited; Congress could make decisions, but had no power to enforce them. Also the articles stated

At the Constitutional Convention, delegates strongly believed in the rule of the majority, but at the same time delegates wanted to protect minorities
from any unjustness done by the majority. In order to do this they separated and balanced out the powers of the national government in different
branches. Other basic constitutional aims that rose up at the Constitutional Convention were separation of church and state, rights for individuals and
states, ruled by the people {Americans], and supremacy of the national government.
The Constitution pays a massive role in court decisions both in the federal and state cases. If the State Supreme Court cannot come to a decision on a
case, the case will be turned over to the Supreme Court who has the final authority in interpreting the meaning of the Constitution in any case. The
courts also have the power of judicial review–to declare a law unconstitutional. Due to the decision of Chief Justice John Marshall the Supreme Court
has this power from the case of Marbury v. Madison in 1801. The case Marbury v. Madison took place during the election of 1800 when Thomas
Jefferson defeated President John Adams, but the new administration did not take office until March of 1801. When the new administration took office
James Madison (Secretary of State) discovered that some commissions were not delivered. One of the people whose commission had not been received

Transformed beyond recognition from the vision of the Founding Fathers'. Discuss this view of the modern US constitution. On March 4th 1789 the
constitution of the United States of America came into effect. Derived from the visions of seven political leaders and statesmen and consisting of
only seven articles, the US constitution would become the first of its kind, the bedrock of democracy and lay the foundations for democratic political
systems across the world. Since 1789, America has progressed in ways that would have seemed unimaginable at the time. Politicians and their political
ideas have been and gone, World wars have been fought, equality is no longer a wishful dream but stringently expected and the American flag was even

This can only be positive thing, progression is the cornerstone of a liberal society, without progression, without the ability to amend the constitution,
America would be left in an archaic state, unable to keep up with the ever changing world. The Founding Fathers accepted and embraced change, they
knew fully well their visions would be transformed, sustained and added to. Since 1789 the constitution has only been amended 27 times, with ten of
these ratifications occurring immediately as the Bill of Rights, but in the last 200 years essential amendments have been made, such as the 13th
Amendment in 1865, abolishing the practice of slavery, as well as the 15th Amendment in 1870, giving all American citizens the right to vote. Few, if
any, would argue against such necessary amendments to the constitution. The transformation of the US constitution has allowed other political
constitutions to change with it and become a beacon of progression and democratic values, and is still a ray of light in 2012, in a world still somehow
plagued with inequality and lack of rights. Over the last 200 years the US constitution has grown through the process of amendments, leading to the
inevitable transformation from the visions of the Founding Fathers to the necessities of the 21st century. Such amendments have had a profound effect,
not only on American citizens, but the world itself. In 1789, as with the times, many

The United States Constitution.
By Analicia
The beginning of the United States constitution was the preamble. The preamble states a brief summery of the contents of what the constitution will
hold. Before the constitution was thought upon, there was something called the articles of confederation. This document served as the first constitution
for the newly independent country. The Articles of Confederation stated that each state could do as they pleased inside their state lines. The people
took advantage of this newly found freedom. They decided in each state to have their own language, currency, and prices for imported and out ported
goods. This, however, did not work for when a merchant came to sell goods, in a different state, he would sell...show more content...
They also had different currency so the merchant had no use of foreign currency. Most of the time the people could not understand each other because
of the different languages they spoke. The people did favor this because they did not have to go by a national government. This had to be changed, so
sir Thomas Jefferson was asked to wright a document that united all the states under one government where each state had to have a certain amount of
representatives for their population that each of the states held. When the news of a government came out a lot of people were very upset. They
believed that it was going to be just like the government that enslave the people in Britain. When people started to riot Thomas sent out copies of the
preamble. This calmed the majority of the people. The constitution had to have three major thing in the text. The first was that each state was to have
representatives for the state. They tweaked it a little and put in the constitution that the amount of representatives depended on the population of the
state. The second was that the states had to have a purpose. The southern states were to focus on farming and depended on slaves. The northern

The Constitution of the United States was written in 1787 at the Constitutional Convention, where it was held in Philadelphia. It was written by a
group of people known as "Farmers," or the "Founding Fathers," and few of the most famous Founding Fathers were George Washington (The first
president of the USA), Thomas Jefferson (The first vice president and the third president of the USA) James Madison (The fourth president of the
USA), Samuel Adams, and Benjamin Franklin. The old government, the Articles of Confederation was not working as it supposed to be, it was
vulnerable and cannot secure and defend the new born nation and for that reason the constitution of the united states saw the light.

The Senate needs to ratify all laws by a two–third vote. The vice president who is the head of the Senate is not permitted to vote, but in case of a tie
he is allowed to. The House of Representatives is made of 435 representatives, each is elected by his state and serve two years. The number of
representatives depends on the state population. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate elect their own leaders; the part that controls the
house, is called the majority leader while the other is called the minority leader.
The president, who is the head of the executive branch, is elected by the entire nation and serves four years. According to article II of the Constitution
the president has the power of execution and enforcement of laws passed by the congress, choose cabinet members and officials, he is the head of state
and the commander and chief of the armed forces. The vice president is also a part of the executive branch and is a position to take presidency in case

The US Constitution In The 18th Century
In the 18th century, nations were fighting for their independence and humans were fighting for their fundamental rights. Constitutions played a role in
this process, allowing people to declare their freedom from an absolute monarchy and establishing a government that favored them. For many nations,
the constitution stated why government should rule the people and be run by the people in order for things to be fair and equal. Forming a parliament,
congress, or some other type of representation was an essential part of this equality. Constitutions also stated how there should be an equal separation
of powers to make sure that no one power could have too much control, as a monarch had done previously. In the United States, France, and Great
Britain,...show more content...
This meant that they had to form a government that would govern them the way they wanted. This was a hard task because people wanted the
complete opposite from the monarchy of King George who had ruled them before, but they had to create something that would not be too lenient. The
U.S. Constitution laid out the way that people would be represented in the government. They had two representative bodies: The House of
Representatives had representatives from each state based on population, and the Senate had equal representation from each state. This allowed
equality and fairness to be in the layout of the new government. The Constitution made things clear and was a universal document that would keep
problems in the government from occurring. In France, a similar thing happened. The national Assembly abolished feudalism and created a document
called The Declaration of Rights of Man and of the Citizen. This document stated that everyone was born equal and had a basic set of rights because of
their humanity. There was also a Legislative Assembly, which was another representative body in the government. In Great Britain, the separation of
powers was important to making sure the government represented people. They created a constitutional monarchy, which meant there was still a
monarch, but they did not have all of the power. There was a Prime Minister and Parliament, too, which stood as another branch of the government. The
same happened in Latin American countries when they gained independence from Europe. Leaders found a way to fight for freedom, and new
governments were formed, however in Latin America, they were not all

The Creation Of The Us Constitution
The creation of the US constitution was prompted my many different things going on. What established America's national government and
fundamental laws is the U.S constitution. It also guarantees basic rights for its citizens. The U.S constitution was signed on September 17, 1787 in
Philadelphia, Pa. The first document before the U.S constitution was the Articles of Confederation, with that the government wasn't very strong and the
states didn't act like they do today. In 1787, at the 1787 convention, delegates made a decision to make a stronger federal government that consisted of
the executive, legislative, and the judicial branches. That wasn't it either, it also had a system of checks and balances because they did not want one
branch to be able to overpower another branch. The ten amendments of the Bill of Rights guarantees protections for people like religion and freedom
of speech. In total, there are twenty–seven constitutional amendments. As said by John Adams; the Constitutional Convention as "the greatest single
effort of national deliberation that the world has ever see." Most of the delegates at the convention had already been risking their lives by being
threatened to being hung as traitors by the British. They were very worried that their states reactions to their decision to abandon the Articles of
Confederation and create a new one wouldn't be very accepting. Making the states realize that they should accept the constitution was as hard as they
thought. It

"While the authors of the United States Constitution are frequently portrayed as noble and idealistic statesmen who drafted a document based upon
their conception of good government, reality is that the constitution reflects the politics of the drafting and ratification process. Unfortunately, the result
is a document that is designed to produce an ineffective government, rather than a government that can respond to issues in a timely fashion." In
support of this conclusion, the issues of slavery, The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, and the civil rights struggle keenly demonstrate the ways in which

The constitution details, "The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two senators from each state...and each senator shall have one vote."
This equal representation along with careful maintenance of regional balance in the Senate allowed for Southern states to retain their national veto over
slavery. Lastly, the constitution's allowance for the establishment of the Supreme Court that could, with a single decision, overturn years worth of
legislation provided a monumental setback. In the court case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that the federal government did not retain the
power to prevent slavery in the territories. Although slavery was eventually abolished by the fourteenth amendment, the long struggle and numerous
constitutional roadblocks demonstrate how a number of provisions within the constitution hindered the ability of the national government to efficiently
overcome a national concern.
The 1906 Earthquake in San Francisco also exemplifies the way in which the constitution impedes government action. After hearing a short report
regarding the earthquake, President Roosevelt sent a telegram to the California governor, expressing his sympathy and offering national assistance. The
governor replied that state troops were handling the disaster and that if federal aid was needed, it would be promptly requested. What followed this
disaster were continuing coordination

While crafting the constitution, the framers sought to preserve certain powers to the states and giving individuals certain rights. The Establishment

One of the rights is located in the First Amendment as the Establishment Clause. The Establishment Clause states "Congress shall make no law

among states, which means that other states must respect 'public acts", Records and judicial proceedings" that take place in other states (Lowi, 2007,
pg. 52). It also guarantees citizens of any state the privileges and immunities of every other state. For example, if were to get married in California then
that marriage must be recognized in any other state I might choose to relocate to. Yet, there have been issues with gay marriage. Congress passed a law
in 1996 which emphasizes that all states must not recognize gay marriage, even though some states have passed laws that approve gay marriages. Of
course there will always be issues and contradictions to this system (Lowi, 2007, pg. 51). State governments are set up through state constitution, which
usually have four sections. These sections are the: preamble which states the purpose and that the authority of the government comes from the people.
Another section is the bill or declaration of rights which includes many of the same rights as in the U.S. Constitution's Bill of Rights. To expand on this

Constitution Vs US Constitution

  • 1. Constitution Vs US Constitution Both of them have the ultimate goal of preserving free will and giving people choice into what they want to believe in. A main difference between the two is that as stated, "it shall be the duty of the Legislature to pass such laws as may be necessary to protect every religious denomination in the peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship" (Article 1 Section 6). So there is more input by the Texas government, in comparison to the US Constitution which is much broader. If there is an inconsistency, according to the Supremacy Clause, "the federal government in exercising any of the powers enumerated in the constitution, must prevail over any conflicting or inconsistent state exercise of power" (Legal Dictionary). The judicial branch is comprised of the Federal, District, and Appeals Courts, which judge cases concerning federal law, but the Supreme Court decides if the law agrees with the U.S. Constitution. http:/ /answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080521155230AAz04SP Each of the three branches is controlled by the other two in several ways. The president can veto a law which was passed by Congress, yet Congress can override the veto with a two–thirds vote of both houses. Members of the Supreme Court, which are appointed by the president and approved by Congress, can declare a law passed by Congress is unconstitutional. The U.S. Constitution, Article 1 Section 1, states that the legislative branch be created from two separate bodies: a House of Representatives and a Senate, together is known as Congress. Legislative Branch The Legislative branch has the power to pass federal laws, establish federal courts, override a Presidential veto, and impeach the President. The size of the House of Representatives resulted out of the Great Compromise. The number of Representatives is determined by Congress based on the state population. At minimum each state would have one representative, with larger states having more. • 3. Us Constitution Essay The United States of America was established on July 4th, 1776 liberating itself from British rule. Alongside it grew in many aspects but also needed to improve others. Living off the British before, the U.S. now had to start making "independent" decisions as an "independent" nation. The United States of America suffered from political, economic, and diplomatic crises throughout the 1780s shaping provisions of theUnited States Constitution. The American Revolution was shadowed by an unembellished economic depression in 1784 and 1785, forcing many states to execute charges on goods from other states to raise up the governments revenue. State governments in the 1780's did not embrace public rule and wanted separation of powers. The...show more content... Once the Constitution was ratified, the control of funding and repayment of the debt passed to the federal government. During the Philadelphia convention multiple compromises were made, the Great Compromise being one of them. The Great Compromise benefited both the small states and the larger states, by setting up a two–house legislature. Before that the smaller states had proposed the New Jersey plan which was made up of a one house legislature with an equal amount of representation. Larger states of course thought it was unfair so they proposed the Virginia plan. The Virginia plan was made up of a two–house legislature, lower house being elected by the people and the upper house elected by the lower house. The Great compromise unified both ideas and established the two–house legislature, the lower house still elected by the people but the upper house now elected by the state legislatures to give states equal representation. Slaves were of much discussion and had to be decided on whether they should be counted as population or as property. They believed slaves should get some sort of representation because the impact how much people come into a colony. • 4. The US Constitution: Past, Present, And Future The United States Constitution was inscribed in 1787 and is still used today as the primary document for the government. Many argue whether it is applicable in modern times or if it means exactly what it says. However, it is and will continuously be used in the ever–changing United States' society as the governing contract since amendments can constantly be proposed. The United States Constitution is considered a "living document" as it grows with the country and the issues develop. Many problems arise now that were not an issue in the time the U.S. Constitution was, such as, abortion, gun control, and same–sex marriage. However, the Founding Fathers proposed a solution for this as they knew that the times and issues that America faced would Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The U.S. Constitution Essay A constitution is a written document that sets forth the fundamental rules by which a society is governed. Throughout the course of history the United States has lived under two Constitutions since the British–American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain in 1776. First in line was the Articles of Confederation (1789–1789) followed by the Constitution of United States of America (1789–present). The Articles of Confederation was the first formal written Constitution of America that specified how the national government was to operate. Unfortunately, the Articles did not last long. Under the words of the Article's power was limited; Congress could make decisions, but had no power to enforce them. Also the articles stated ...show more content... At the Constitutional Convention, delegates strongly believed in the rule of the majority, but at the same time delegates wanted to protect minorities from any unjustness done by the majority. In order to do this they separated and balanced out the powers of the national government in different branches. Other basic constitutional aims that rose up at the Constitutional Convention were separation of church and state, rights for individuals and states, ruled by the people {Americans], and supremacy of the national government. The Constitution pays a massive role in court decisions both in the federal and state cases. If the State Supreme Court cannot come to a decision on a case, the case will be turned over to the Supreme Court who has the final authority in interpreting the meaning of the Constitution in any case. The courts also have the power of judicial review–to declare a law unconstitutional. Due to the decision of Chief Justice John Marshall the Supreme Court has this power from the case of Marbury v. Madison in 1801. The case Marbury v. Madison took place during the election of 1800 when Thomas Jefferson defeated President John Adams, but the new administration did not take office until March of 1801. When the new administration took office James Madison (Secretary of State) discovered that some commissions were not delivered. The hardship of one race seemed to outweigh that of another, no mention is made about the fact that the only race ordered to evacuate by reporting to Assembly Centers followed by indeterminate confinement to detention camps were Japanese Americans. • 8. Essay on US Constitution Transformed beyond recognition from the vision of the Founding Fathers'. Discuss this view of the modern US constitution. On March 4th 1789 the constitution of the United States of America came into effect. Derived from the visions of seven political leaders and statesmen and consisting of only seven articles, the US constitution would become the first of its kind, the bedrock of democracy and lay the foundations for democratic political systems across the world. Since 1789, America has progressed in ways that would have seemed unimaginable at the time. Politicians and their political ideas have been and gone, World wars have been fought, equality is no longer a wishful dream but stringently expected and the American flag was even ...show more content... This can only be positive thing, progression is the cornerstone of a liberal society, without progression, without the ability to amend the constitution, America would be left in an archaic state, unable to keep up with the ever changing world. The Founding Fathers accepted and embraced change, they knew fully well their visions would be transformed, sustained and added to. Since 1789 the constitution has only been amended 27 times, with ten of these ratifications occurring immediately as the Bill of Rights, but in the last 200 years essential amendments have been made, such as the 13th Amendment in 1865, abolishing the practice of slavery, as well as the 15th Amendment in 1870, giving all American citizens the right to vote. Few, if any, would argue against such necessary amendments to the constitution. The transformation of the US constitution has allowed other political constitutions to change with it and become a beacon of progression and democratic values, and is still a ray of light in 2012, in a world still somehow plagued with inequality and lack of rights. Over the last 200 years the US constitution has grown through the process of amendments, leading to the inevitable transformation from the visions of the Founding Fathers to the necessities of the 21st century. Such amendments have had a profound effect, not only on American citizens, but the world itself. In 1789, as with the times, many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. The Us Constitution Research Paper The United States Constitution. By Analicia The beginning of the United States constitution was the preamble. The preamble states a brief summery of the contents of what the constitution will hold. Before the constitution was thought upon, there was something called the articles of confederation. This document served as the first constitution for the newly independent country. The Articles of Confederation stated that each state could do as they pleased inside their state lines. The people took advantage of this newly found freedom. They decided in each state to have their own language, currency, and prices for imported and out ported goods. They also had different currency so the merchant had no use of foreign currency. Most of the time the people could not understand each other because of the different languages they spoke. The people did favor this because they did not have to go by a national government. This had to be changed, so sir Thomas Jefferson was asked to wright a document that united all the states under one government where each state had to have a certain amount of representatives for their population that each of the states held. When the news of a government came out a lot of people were very upset. They believed that it was going to be just like the government that enslave the people in Britain. When people started to riot Thomas sent out copies of the preamble. This calmed the majority of the people. The constitution had to have three major thing in the text. The first was that each state was to have representatives for the state. They tweaked it a little and put in the constitution that the amount of representatives depended on the population of the state. The second was that the states had to have a purpose. The southern states were to focus on farming and depended on slaves. The northern Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Both the House of Representatives and the Senate elect their own leaders; the part that controls the house, is called the majority leader while the other is called the minority leader. • 11. The US Constitution In The 18th Century In the 18th century, nations were fighting for their independence and humans were fighting for their fundamental rights. Constitutions played a role in this process, allowing people to declare their freedom from an absolute monarchy and establishing a government that favored them. For many nations, the constitution stated why government should rule the people and be run by the people in order for things to be fair and equal. Forming a parliament, congress, or some other type of representation was an essential part of this equality. Constitutions also stated how there should be an equal separation of powers to make sure that no one power could have too much control, as a monarch had done previously. In the United States, France, and Great Britain,...show more content... This meant that they had to form a government that would govern them the way they wanted. This was a hard task because people wanted the complete opposite from the monarchy of King George who had ruled them before, but they had to create something that would not be too lenient. The U.S. Constitution laid out the way that people would be represented in the government. They had two representative bodies: The House of Representatives had representatives from each state based on population, and the Senate had equal representation from each state. This allowed equality and fairness to be in the layout of the new government. The Constitution made things clear and was a universal document that would keep problems in the government from occurring. In France, a similar thing happened. The national Assembly abolished feudalism and created a document called The Declaration of Rights of Man and of the Citizen. This document stated that everyone was born equal and had a basic set of rights because of their humanity. There was also a Legislative Assembly, which was another representative body in the government. In Great Britain, the separation of powers was important to making sure the government represented people. They created a constitutional monarchy, which meant there was still a monarch, but they did not have all of the power. There was a Prime Minister and Parliament, too, which stood as another branch of the government. The same happened in Latin American countries when they gained independence from Europe. Leaders found a way to fight for freedom, and new governments were formed, however in Latin America, they were not all Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. The Creation Of The Us Constitution The creation of the US constitution was prompted my many different things going on. What established America's national government and fundamental laws is the U.S constitution. It also guarantees basic rights for its citizens. The U.S constitution was signed on September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia, Pa. The first document before the U.S constitution was the Articles of Confederation, with that the government wasn't very strong and the states didn't act like they do today. In 1787, at the 1787 convention, delegates made a decision to make a stronger federal government that consisted of the executive, legislative, and the judicial branches. That wasn't it either, it also had a system of checks and balances because they did not want one branch to be able to overpower another branch. The ten amendments of the Bill of Rights guarantees protections for people like religion and freedom of speech. In total, there are twenty–seven constitutional amendments. As said by John Adams; the Constitutional Convention as "the greatest single effort of national deliberation that the world has ever see." Most of the delegates at the convention had already been risking their lives by being threatened to being hung as traitors by the British. They were very worried that their states reactions to their decision to abandon the Articles of Confederation and create a new one wouldn't be very accepting. Making the states realize that they should accept the constitution was as hard as they thought. It Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay on US Constitution "While the authors of the United States Constitution are frequently portrayed as noble and idealistic statesmen who drafted a document based upon their conception of good government, reality is that the constitution reflects the politics of the drafting and ratification process. Unfortunately, the result is a document that is designed to produce an ineffective government, rather than a government that can respond to issues in a timely fashion." In support of this conclusion, the issues of slavery, The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, and the civil rights struggle keenly demonstrate the ways in which our constitution hinders the expediency and effectiveness of America's government. The constitution'sprovisions towards voting eligibility and...show more content... The constitution details, "The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two senators from each state...and each senator shall have one vote." This equal representation along with careful maintenance of regional balance in the Senate allowed for Southern states to retain their national veto over slavery. Lastly, the constitution's allowance for the establishment of the Supreme Court that could, with a single decision, overturn years worth of legislation provided a monumental setback. In the court case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that the federal government did not retain the power to prevent slavery in the territories. Although slavery was eventually abolished by the fourteenth amendment, the long struggle and numerous constitutional roadblocks demonstrate how a number of provisions within the constitution hindered the ability of the national government to efficiently overcome a national concern. The 1906 Earthquake in San Francisco also exemplifies the way in which the constitution impedes government action. After hearing a short report regarding the earthquake, President Roosevelt sent a telegram to the California governor, expressing his sympathy and offering national assistance. The governor replied that state troops were handling the disaster and that if federal aid was needed, it would be promptly requested. What followed this disaster were continuing coordination Get more content on HelpWriting.net
