2. A day after low cost carrier Air Asia stated that it will start direct flights to Bangkok
from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), National carrier Air India too
evinced interest to start service on the route.
3. After the State Government approved proposal by low-cost airline AirAsia, Air India
is planning to launch direct flight to Bangkok from Bhubaneswar airport.

the Air India proposal is likely to receive positive response, officials say.
7. As per Air India sources, in view of influx of Buddhist tourists to Odisha, Air India is
planning to start its international flight to Bangkok from Gaya via Bhubaneswar.
8. The proposal in this regard has been offered to Odisha Government, BPIA Authority
and DGCA.
9. The PSU will begin its flight service to Bangkok with getting approval from the
Government, official in the Air India, Bhubaneswar, said.
10. As per the plan, the flight from Gaya will land in Bhubaneswar from where it will take
off to Bangkok directly.

12. Although, the company was to start flight operation to international destinations
from BPIA, we have not applied for any kind of subsidy for the operation, he added.
13. “We received a proposal from Air India on operation of flight service to Bangkok
from Bhubaneswar. As Air India authorities have not asked for subsidy for the
service, we have taken up it as positively. The decision regarding it will be made
soon,” said a Government official.
14. BPIA Authorities have also welcomed the proposal and are well prepared for
international flights.
15. “Expressing interests by more number of aviation firms for launching international
flights from Bhubaneswar are positive sign for us. We will provide all kinds of
cooperation to the companies. After getting flight schedules, we will provide allied
facilities on premises of terminal,” said BPIA Director Suresh Chandra Hota.
16. With the State Government subsidizing flight to Malaysia, more international
operators are showing interest for Bhubaneswar to start international flights, said
