1. Charles Nivens is an American Artist with over 40 years of professional experience. He currently resides in the beautiful
Carrollton Georgia with his wife, Diane. The artist has devoted much of his life to honing his artistic ability and technique. His work
has been featured and exhibited in cities across the U.S. as well as abroad.
“The strength of any artist must ultimately lie in the "soul" of his/her accomplishment; that is the finished form- the final touch.
Few artists can with distinction, infuse intense emotion with lighthearted frivolity in such a manner that rewards the eye and stirs the
senses.
Charles Nivens is such an artist. A brilliant colorist whose ability to sandwich together form, line and stroke in an endless display of
anxious movements conjure up the complexities of deKooning, the passion of Cezanne and the angst of Kirchner while still possessing
and maintaining his own unique signature style.
His works whether luminous or somber, hectic or serene, turbulent or tranquil contain a flurry of rhythmic movements that splendidly
capture moments in time.
An example of this is his extraordinary series of Jazz paintings which seem to create atmospheric chambers designed to echo the
sublime artistry of Ella, Bird, Pops, Lady Day and Duke that still reverberate within the Bistros of our memories.
As a self-taught artist Charles quickly learned that devotion to impulse need not be compromised by discipline but rather enhanced by
it.
Working with paint, palette knife, and brush directly on canvas and eschewing more conventional methods of preparing the canvas by
drawing or outlining his subject, he produces tonal modulations that are evident of a very confident artist; one who has a strong
predilection for the chaotic energy and vivacity spontaneity often produces.”
