Context:
Project Brokers is a business partner that calls upon my services as and when projects arise as a
Business Intelligence Consultant via my company, Edelweiss Solutions Ltd.
The projects assigned range from 6 to 12 weeks and generally focus upon Business Analysis and
prototyping using QlikView, an in-memory Business Intelligence reporting tool. A typical assignment
was with Deutsche Bank analysing the distribution of their financial publications.
My duties included:
 Liaising closely with the business, interviewing, analysing and documenting business
requirements/functional specifications/technical specifications
 Using proof of concept and prototyping techniques to challenge and clarify business
requirements.
 Writing optimised T-SQL queries to handle large scale datasets across multiple servers
ensuring transaction recovery, deadlocks and performance are all properly addressed.
 Deploying middleware as Visual C# windows services/SSIS packages to map and convey
data between applications.
 Building drill-downs, graphs and charts and where appropriate, using the specifications to
supervise work assigned to retained resources in Bangalore.
 Overseeing progress to ensure work is delivered in a timely fashion and implementing control
gates to test for compliance and quality.

Context:
Threadneedle Asset Management (TAM) recently decided to outsource their back office services to
J P Morgan (JPM). I was tasked with decoupling the retained Threadneedle Treasury Systems
(predominantly Millennium) from those systems that were to be lifted out by JP Morgan.
My main responsibilities and accomplishments include:
● Gathering information to ‘ring fence’ the impact of de-coupling the Treasury Systems
● Documenting Business Requirements, System Design and Technical Specifications
● Compiling and overseeing UAT Test Scripts to ensure changes complied to control gates
● Performing Gap Analysis of TAM/JPM connectivity across all de-coupling work streams
● Building an off-line MIS Database that is populated daily using SSIS
● Deploying Reports using SSRS with exposure to SSAS.
2003 - 2006 Freelance Web Developer

the team responsible for supporting and enhancing the production back office middleware that
conveys files between the various multi-platform systems.
My main responsibilities and accomplishments include:
 Capturing business requirements, Designing and specifying VB components and writing
corresponding Test Plans.
 Building VB middleware components that respond to TIBCO network messages.
 Dimensional data modelling to build a MS SQL Server Data warehouse to address MIS
Reports.
 Writing optimised parameter driven SQL stored procedures within DTS packages.
 Analysing, implementing and optimising cross-site straight through processing.
 Investigating incidents, overseeing solutions and documenting recovery procedures.
 Assessing impact and estimating the work required to address requests for change.

 Adhering to UML paradigms to document requirements, analysis and design.
 Designing building testing and implementing VB components under MTS.
 3 month posting to California as a Systems Analyst/Technical Lead to oversee core
enhancements to SLM
 Implementing new interfaces to legacy core systems.
 Conducting interviews across sites to establish business requirements and then devising and
presenting prototype solutions to our business partners.
 Recommending and implementing performance enhancements across VB components.

 Allocating and supervising the build of the various code components ensuring they comply
with programming standards and conform to the preferred architecture.
 Designing, building, testing and distributing VB User Defined Controls.
 Encapsulating third party COM objects to handle the capture of addresses and the validation
of bank account details before being submitted to BACS.
 Prototyping web solutions utilising ASP, HTML and JavaScript.

Context:
LUSIS is the IT subsidiary within the Hyder Group which also controls SWALEC an electricity supply
company which diversified into supplying gas. Our development team delivered the first phase of the
back office systems in order to support the new business venture.
I was also involved in the 1998 deregulation of the electricity industry where I successfully migrated
the MV90 legacy file/server system (Novell Network) over to a true client/server configuration (NT
Network) and delivered ad hoc reporting of the underlying Btrieve database.
My main responsibilities and accomplishments included:
 Analysing, building and testing the MS SQL Server Customer Database and subsequently
migrating the legacy data over to the new database.
 Building, testing and delivering the VB User Interface for capturing the new domestic gas
contracts to a user base of 80.
 Publishing and maintaining Graphical User Interface Standards that apply across the 1998
project.
 Trialling third party client/server interface software to confirm the feasibility of ODBC
connectivity to Btrieve
1995 - 1997 Natwest Life
Senior Analyst/Programmer (Permanent)

Context:
A Life Assurance subsidiary company to NatWest Group. Our team was responsible for the
development implementation and support of Client Server applications. The majority of the systems
comprise of Microsoft SQL Server/DMSII Database, Access/VB/Crystal User interface, and Business
Objects for ad hoc enquiries.
My main responsibilities and accomplishments included:
 Co-ordinating dedicated client server development teams to ensure systems are designed,
developed, fully documented and tested before being delivered into production. The nature of
the work has provided me with extensive experience across the whole development life cycle.
 Providing support, for many complex and diverse production applications. Investigating and
diagnosing live problems and delivering timely solutions.
 Designing and Building a SQL Server Data Warehouse accompanied with parameterised
reports to retain and analyse the performance of new business processing against the
company's service standards.
 Delivering the NWUTM Price Checking System that compares two commercial price feeds
and highlights any price discrepancies that violate a specified tolerance limit.
 Publishing Microsoft SQL Server programming guidelines and presenting workshops on
retaining database integrity
 As an active member of the Analyst/Programmer Committee, consolidating Programming
Standards and issuing new standards for some of the more complex issues such as NOF
Interfaces.

Context:
A Mutual Life Assurance Company that catered primarily to the professional market.
My main responsibilities included:
 Estimating the time to complete the necessary development code and allocating the work to
the appropriate resources. Monitoring and vetting the COBOL/LINC programming work and
generally providing support and guidance to the programmers within the team.
 Devising system tests from the Technical Specifications to ensure the code is correct and
implemented on schedule.
 Pioneering the conversion of the Corporate Database Systems to LINC15 and providing
guidance for subsequent system conversions.
 Devising and launching new program skeletons to ensure LINC is utilised effectively within the
team and cutting development costs by 15%.
 Championing the department at the LINC User Group and ensuring the team is well informed
of any new features.
 Prototyping and co-ordinating new techniques for the feasibility of introducing Activity Based
Charging for the Central Database Systems. This involved devising, testing and demonstrating
a working system and reporting the benefits and concerns of the new system.
1988 – 1991 H W Fisher & Company
Context: Trainee Chartered Accountant
A firm of Chartered Accountants. I was responsible for supervising the audits of companies whose
annual turnover would generally exceed 1 million. This would involve investigating anomalies within
the accounts, conducting probing interviews, verifying the figures within the company accounts as well
as allocating work within the team, monitoring their work and ensuring the audit is completed within
budget.
