3. At Balatoc, which is part of the municipality of
Lubuagan,
and the province of Kalinga-Apayao, is one of the
oldest barrios.
This barrio is situated at the foot of a high mountain
where there is
located a huge rock.
In this barrio, there was a beautiful
woman named Ipogao.
4. One day, a man whom none of the inhabitants
knew, appeared.
He went to Ipogao and said, "Ipogao, I am
God (Kabunyan), from a distant place. I
come to see you because I want to marry
you." Ipogao answered, "I would like to marry
you if you truly like me."
5. After that, Ipugao led God to her small house.
God thought of a good thing that he would do,
he decided to make a bridge across to the other side
for he people to pass when they go to the opposite
side to work for their supplies.
So then, God returned to their house to tell Ipogao what he
wanted to do. He instructed Ipogao that starting tomorrow
he’ll be on a work and don’t come to him. it will just up to
him if he get hungry. When he had finished giving his
instructions he started out to go to his work.
6. After many days had passed by, Ipogao longed
for her husband. She cooked rice to take to her
husband. When she was almost at Pasil, she
heard what sounded like a machine. So then,
she silently drew near. When she had drawn
near and spied what was making the noise, she
saw God working. She carefully watched and
was frightened to see flame of fire coming out
from the navel of God. He was pointing the
flame at the bridge that he was making.
7. When it was evening, God was tired so he went to rest at his
resting place. As he was resting he saw some cooked rice
and a person's footprint on the ground. He said that there
was a person who came and plainly saw him working. He
want no one to see him working until it was already finished .
After that, he went to their house to go and ask his wife
who'd seen him. He arrived at their house and saw his wife
worrying. He told Ipogao who went to that place where he
was working and dropped some cooked rice and whose
footprint is it.
8. Ipogao tell the truth, he was only worried of God for not
been home for many days. Ipogao didn't listen to what
God instructed to her and the bridge will never continue
to build. When God had finished destroying the bridge,
he returned to their house and instructed Ipogao to
repent he thought he would to marry her so that he
would do something for her benefit. For being God
interrupted he will leave Ipogao and the people. The
next day, God was no longer in the place.
9. When God had already gone away,
Ipogao led the people to what he had
worked. The people were surprised when
they saw a part of the bridge that was left
suspended and connected to the rock.
While the people were carefully gazing at
the bridge, they reprimanded Ipogao,
"You should not have come and
interrupted him until he was finished. Why
ever did you come when he had
instructed you?" When Ipogao answered,
she said, "It's just that in my mind I
thought he was a person like us." After
the people had seen that bridge they
believed that God was that one who had
come. There is a part of the bridge left
there even now.
12. Dudong,17, is impatiently waiting for his father to
return home so that he can tell him of his love for Teang
and his desire to marry her
He feels that at 17 he is a grown man and is ready for the next
important step in his life.
When he tells his father that he has asked Teang
to marry him and wants his blessing, there is a
long and cruel silence. His father asks if he must
marry her because Dudong is very young. Dudong
resents his father's question, and finally his father
gives his consent.
13. Nine months later, Dudong is waiting outside while
Teang gives birth to their first son, Blas. He feels young
and inexperienced, a contrast to how he felt nine
months ago.
Dudong did not want any more children, but they
came anyway. For the next six years, Teang gave
birth. Seven children in all.
Teang did not complain. However her body was
now shapeless and thin from bearing so many
children and from the hard work of caring for
them and the household
14. One night Dudong goes outside and thinks about his
life. He wants to have the wisdom to know why life
does not fulfill Youth's dreams. Why did life forsake you
after love? He never finds the answer.
When Blas turns 18, he comes home and tells
Dudong that he wants to marry Tena. Dudong at this
time is only 36 years old, but he is portrayed as a
much older man. Dudong does not want Blas to
marry so young. He asks the same question his
father asked him. Does Blas have to marry Tena? He
does not want him to make the same mistake he
did. Blas also reacts with resentment. Dudong
realizes that he is dealing with Youth and Love, and
they will triumph over this situation. After that,
comes real life. He gives his consent, feeling sad and
sorry for his son.
19. STORY
Long ago, animals can take off
their skins, like we do our
clothes. They can stand on
their two feet like us. They can
also talk with each other and
with man.
The carabao
and the cow
both work for
a strict and
cruel farmer.
20. The carabao pulls the plow across
the field in order to prepare the hard
soil for the planting of rice. He also
pulls the sled for his master to haul
supplies and crops all year round.
The cow produces milk for the
master.
Despite their
differences, the
two animals are
the bestfriends.
21. One hot day, as the two friends sit
under the shade of the mango
tree, they noticed that their
master left them. The two
decided to go for a quick swim in
the nearby river.
They removed
their skins and
left these on the
grassy bank.
They forgot their
worries and
swam.
22. All of a sudden they heard an
angry shout! Their master had
returned! The two friends had no
time to argue who should have
watched for their master or who
should have kept the time; they
scrambled on shore for their
skins.
In their haste, the
cow put on the
carabao’s skin,
which was large
for her. The
carabao was left
with the cow’s
skin, which fit
tightly. Their
master
discovered them
because of their
footprints.
23. IN THE END ANIMALS HAVE
FEELINGS TOO ! BUT EVERYONE
SHOULD ALSO FOLLOW ORDERS
BECAUSE IF WE DISOBEY WE
WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES.
