Population = Poverty
The population boom of China was realized back in 1978. China
started to initiate a population plan in order not to over populate
the land. It worked and by 1980 300 million births had been
prevented. But that is when China realized that it wanted to
become a super industrialized power just like the United States
and Europe. What they never realized was the consequences on
the environment and the billions of people that live on this
earth.
Population = Poverty
The negative long term effects on the environment are reaching
a non reversible status. Since the forests are being rapidly
exterminated to accommodate the increasing population, the
issue of animal population not having a place to flourish and
develop is rapidly rising which is creating a misbalance on the
Earths ecosystem. Waste management is one of the pressing
matters that needs to be solved rather fast.
Population = Poverty
The ozone layers constant weakening keeps on exacerbating the
harsh weather phenomena which ultimately ends up costing
billions of dollars globally. All of the money directed towards
repairing environmental issues caused by humans could have
been be directed towards managing population control and its
well being.
Population = Poverty
The stakeholders involved in Population = Poverty are the
United Nations (UN) and the United States (US). The basis for
the UN claims lay in the fact that the US is per capita the most
wasteful country in the world. The UN claims that if nothing is
done about the population of third world countries and the
wastefulness of the industrialized countries then the world as
we know it is doomed to end. The end of the world dispute
stems from the UN funded reports that state there are not
enough resources for the expanding population.
Population = Poverty
In an attempt to mitigate the ongoing increase growth in
population the United Nations (UN) funds family-planning and
HIV prevention measure programs. The UN is also an advocate
of woman’s right to choose and therefore supports abortion
procedures in countries where it is legal. The UN even
recommended contraceptive advice and sex education at every
grade level.
Population = Poverty
The US claim that they are not responsible for the upcoming
cataclysmic event, it is the developing third world countries
new industrialization. The US claims those countries have an
uncontrolled population growth and should not become
industrialized because the world cannot sustain the use of
resources by those countries. Also the US cannot curve their
way of life because it will have a devastating effect on their
economy.
Population = Poverty
The US also has not assisted with UN campaigns dealing with
woman’s right to choose and contraceptives as part of the
population reducing efforts in developing counties. The US
social perspective is a Pro-Life stand and therefore has held
payments to the UN of their support of family planning clinics.
The US has also held up foreign-operation Bills demanding a
guarantee that no assistance will go to agencies or countries that
advocate abortion.
Population = Poverty
Environmental Theory by Florence Nightingale
Uses the concept of nursing in environment – good
environmental management and resource utilization
Define human beings in relation to the environment
Relates whatever surrounds human being to his state of health
She identified five environmental factors; pure water, fresh air,
cleanliness or sanitation, efficient drainage and light
Critical Environmental Theory by Richard Kahn
Focus on the relationship between nature’s dominance and
advanced industrial power
Looks into resistance posed by several environmental groups as
they attempt to understand evolution of environmental
movements
Critical theorists debate and present the case of dualism
between natural and social sciences as well as human and
nonhuman species
Population = Poverty
The following is the influence of the Theories and Ethics.
The first theory has given Nightingale a chance to compare
nursing of a patient to nurturing or taking care of the
environment
She presents the role man has in taking conserving
environmental resources.
This way, she asserts that man takes care of the environment
because its condition affects him in several ways
Have given the critical theorist a chance to compare industrial
power with nature’s dominance
It has ignited in them a need to critically assess the way the
influence of different environmental groups on environmental
resources
It also makes them make rational analysis of the symbiotic
relationship between human and nonhuman species
Population = Poverty
The United Nations has chosen to support birth control methods
and sex education as its means of controlling the population
growth. Now it must lead the fight to support those programs
and convince the world leaders to follow in their belief through
funding and education. They are also trying to convince the
industrialized countries to start looking at sustainable energy
and reduce waste.
Population = Poverty
The United States has chosen a different position on the premise
that birth control is murder. That positon is supported by not
funding programs in any country that will use those funds in
part of whole for birth control. The United States has chosen to
push GMO’s to help the world’s population and eliminate
pesticides and other harmful chemicals. Some of these super
resistant plants are not only predator resistant but also drought
resilient.
Population = Poverty
The following describes how the some of the issue have been or
should be resolved.
Job Training
Job creation initiative from both the private and public sectors
could significantly impact the poverty rate. In order to reduce
the poverty rate, the jobs created must pay middle class wages.
Minimum wage job creation may help to lower the
unemployment rate, but these jobs don't lift families out of the
depths of poverty.
Creation
Creating job training programs to teach workers the skills
needed to find employment can also help address the poverty
problem. Individuals who rely on government services and
public assistance need job training programs that match workers
with emerging enterprises in need of qualified employees. In
addition, job retraining can help older workers who find
themselves suddenly unemployed. Many older workers have to
learn new skills suited for 21st century businesses in order to
find work.
Population = Poverty
C. Education
Education can help to uplift the economic circumstances of any
individual. The days of large numbers of available jobs in the
manufacturing, service, and construction industries have ended.
Many routine production jobs and customer service jobs now
reside overseas.
The school system needs to train students to compete in high-
demand fields like math and science. Experts predict that job
growth over the next few decades in great careers like
engineering and information technology will continue to
increase. Our secondary and post-secondary schools must
prepare students for the emerging workforce. Targeted
education, along with incentives for companies to employ U.S.
citizens can help keep more jobs in the US and help provide
jobs for new college graduates.
Population = Poverty
D. Apprenticeships
Apprenticeship needs to become more popular in the United
States to fill job openings in technical fields. Individuals who
pick up a trade or vocation can find employment that enables
them to lift themselves up out of poverty.
