Introduction
The word 'camouflage’ has its origin in the French word ‘camoufler’ which means 'to
disguise’.
Military camouflage is the use of camouflage by an armed force to protect personnel
and equipment from observation by enemy forces. In practice, this means applying
colour and materials to military equipment of all kinds, including vehicles, ships,
aircraft, gun positions and battledress, either to conceal it from observation (crypsis),
or to make it appear as something else (mimicry).
Human civilization, beginning with primitive man, has be using camouflage, concealment
and deception in various forms for different purposes, particularly in wars.
Camouflage was first practiced in simple form in the mid-18th century by rifle units.
Then it later used by French armies in World War I. The first introduction of drab
general uniform was by the British Corps of Guides in India in 1848.

Literature Review
A review of modern materials used in Military Camouflage within the Radar frequency range –
Bogustawa Szczodrowska and Robert Mazurczuk – (10Feb, 2021)
One of the most effective ways to increase the protection and survival of troops is camouflage. For
Construction of camouflage system, it is always advisable to use materials with Lowest possible Reflectivity
like Glass fibre, Plastics, Composites, Microwave absorber.
Development of Fibre based Active Thermal Infrared Camouflage Textile –
Taekyung Lim and Sang Mi Jeong -(2020)
The study demonstrated an Infrared Camouflaging technique was not visible to the naked eye. So this viewed
by only using special recognition device IR-TIC.
Visual Camouflage-
Rune Petterson -(2019)
The main advantage of Camouflage technique in defence system is that it have ability to Hide Appearance,
Behaviour, Location, sound, Temperature, Visual Appearance.

Principle of Camouflage technique
7
The main objective of military camouflage is to deceive the enemy as to the presence,
position and intentions of military formations.
Camouflage techniques include concealment, disguise, and dummies, applied to troops,
vehicles, and positions.
Vision is the main sense of orientation in humans, and the primary function of
camouflage is to deceive the human eye. Camouflage works through concealment
(whether by countershading, preventing casting shadows, or disruption of outlines),
mimicry, or possibly by dazzle. In modern warfare, some forms of camouflage, for
example face paints, also offer concealment from infrared sensors, while CADPAT
textiles in addition help to provide concealment from radar.

Advantages
12
The safety factor of individual soldier
improves due to camouflage techniques.
To protect personnel and equipment from
observation from observation by Enemy
forces.
It also hides, blends Army vehicles, Guns,
Aircrafts, Gun positions from Enemy forces.
It also hides presence, positions, intensions
of Military formations
It helps to Defeat Observation at Range at
a long-distances.
Camouflage technique also helps to
aircrafts to painted all over with disruptive
pattern or
neutral colour Gray.
It also helps Land Military vehicles to
protect from Aerial Reconnaissance.
With increasing value of Stealth technology,
it reduced value of Camouflage technology.
Aircrafts have challenge that its
background varies widely according to
region, and also
observer is from above or below the
Aircraft.
Camouflage technology is a sensible
technology, so if its used by wrong
personalities or
Terrorists then it will makes worse effects
to world.
Competition in making efficient technology
of Camouflage causes more signs of World
War.
Paint is Least effective measure because we
have to change it from time to time.

Future
Scope
Countries like America, Israel, India are developing multi-
spectrum Camouflage technique provides greater protection
from Infrared and Thermal radars. And also one design
suitable for woodland, Snow and desert environments.
Russia is developing a new full body exoskeleton with fully
advanced military camouflage technology for Russian army
called Invisible Torso.

Conclusion
In this paper, an overview over the Camouflage technology and
their defence applications are presented.
The main advantage of this technique is that it provides efficient
superiority and mobility.
With the help of this technique, we have control over target
acquisition systems, countermeasures, command, communication and
surveillance system. Some researchers also describe parameters
required for improve this technique.
But, explosion and advancements of technologies of this century
causes wars have become highly technologically oriented and
sophisticated. This, technologies are making more chances of World
war.
