Aldershot’s Army Golf Club is the site of a particularly challenging course set over
165 acres of low, undulating woodland between Farnborough and Aldershot. As the
name suggests the club has military origins, however the course is now enjoyed by
members, visitors and golf societies both civilian and from the forces. With such a
prestigious military background, the staff at Army Golf Club obviously expect the
highest standard of precision and preparation when dealing with HR issues.
“We haven’t had any issues and I don’t envisage any, but who knows! We didn’t
wait until there was an issue, but if there was we’d then introduce Golf HR to the
situation. No problem at all,” says Richard Lloyd, Club Manager.
“Many golf club managers make the mistake of using vague online advice and non-golf specific
companies; make sure you don’t fall into the trap of taking sub-standard advice that won’t be up-
to-date!
“In the past, we dealt with most of it
internally. We would follow
obviously the guidelines that are laid
down on certain internet sites, we
did use another HR company previously up until 2011 so we had a lot of paperwork on file but
things change and we felt it was time to catch up on legislation and refresh it all.”
Golf HR provides assistance to many golf clubs across the country, and are known within the Golf
Club Managers Association as a provider of top quality HR services.
“They were recommended by another golf club and following Carolyne’s seminar at one of the
GCMA meetings. It tends to be a lot of work up front then you sit back and wait for issues to arise.
We haven’t had any yet, thank goodness. The only thing we have had is a rewrite of our employee
contracts, so far so good. “
“They’ve highlighted some areas where there may have been some ambiguity in the wording. We
certainly feel less at risk now. We’ve done staff handbooks as well. Some things have been added
where legislation has changed in the last three years. Yeah, it’s a good handbook.”
“We certainly feel more secure since we’ve been working with Golf HR, to be able to just make a
phone call and get things sorted is great. Whether we come up against a big issue or just minor
ones they’ve been helpful, and yes I see us continuing to work with Golf HR”
