• Timeline/Profile: a chronological compilation of all yourposts,photos,
likes,etc. on Facebook
• Newsfeed:a compilation of postsmade by yourFriends and Pagesyou’ve
liked
• Page:a Profile which represents a public figure, company, or other entity.
You cannot “Friend” a Page,but you can “Like” it to follow its posts
• Tag:an electronic link between yourProfile and another Friend’s postor
photo
• Chat: private messagessentto a specific person/group of people, but not
displayedon yourTimeline
• Messenger:a mobile phone application which allows you to use “Chat” on
yourmobile device
Creating a Profile
• All you need is a an email address and birth date to create a
Facebook account
• Add a Profile picture and Cover Photo
• Add informationaboutyour workplace, education,currentcity,
etc.
• Add your interests such as music, TV, movies, etc.
The Facebook Navigation Bar
• Your name = your Profile
• “Home” = your Newsfeed
• Friend Requests
• Messages
• Notifications
• PrivacySettings
• Logout
Liking Pages/Finding Friends
• Liking Pages customizes your FacebookNewsfeed to your
interests
• You can searchfor Friends based on Hometown, High School,
place of employment, University,etc.
• Posts from “liked” Pages and Friends will appearin your
Newsfeed
• Be careful not to like excessivePages, as this will spam your
Newsfeed
• Spam: unwanted or excessive updates on your newsfeed
Timeline
• Your Timeline is a combinationof your profile information,the
posts you’ve made,posts others have madeon your Timeline,
and photos/posts you’ve been tagged in
• You can easily customize what information is displayed on your
Timeline
• You can viewhow your Timeline appearsto other people/the
public
Controlling Who Sees Your Posts
• Create “Lists” of Friends organized by family, coworkers,
friends, etc.
• Customize the privacyof eachpost (stop specific individuals
from seeing a specific post)
• Restrict (stop someonefrom seeing any of your posts)

• A private way to communicatewith peopleon Facebook
• Think of it as texting over Facebook
