their wives and children .

subordinated to men, first to
their father and then to their
husband. They lived
confined to a special part of
the house, the harem, and
could only leave this area
when granted permission
and with an escort

Wealthy people ate a variety
of meats; fish; vegetables;
nuts; a variety of sweetmeats,
sweetened with sugarcance
and honey; and different
fruit juices

houses ?
The houses were simple,
without decoration on the
outside and with few
windows to ensure privacy,
and they had a single arched
entrance

The houses of the poor hada
small patio and one or two
rooms that had different
functions. They did not have
a harem .

The houses of the wealthier
citizens were organised
around a large interior patio
and usually had two floors

Men and women used
separate areas: the men used
the area near the entrance

The women lived in the
harem, located in the rear of
the house or in the atic
