DUNLOP CAREER 1980: Trainee manager in production disciplines of Industrial
Engineering and Factory Technical Dept.
1981 – 1985: Transferred to the marketing services dept responsible
for product pricing, municipal and government tenders and the
administration of the sales incentive bonus scheme.
1985 – 1987: Appointed Manager Forecasting and Statistics - Designed
and implemented a demand planning and inventory optimization system.
1987 – 1991: Took on the additional responsibility of Sales Planning and
enhanced the SNP system through improved IT design and support.
1991 – 1994: Appointed to the position of Manager Distribution and
Marketing Services with additional responsibilities to the above of
distribution and the administration of the national sales branches.
1994 – 2000: Appointed Marketing Manager Export – re-focused
European distribution channels, expanded the exclusive export
product range, established new commercial relationships with Dunlop
France and Germany. Re-established business relationship with Galaxy
Tire USA, providing a material increase in production tonnage for the
Durban manufacturing plant. In 1998, took on the additional
responsibility of managing the operational activities of Dunlop Tyres
International Limited, a trading company based in the UK responsible
for sales into Dunlop Africa’s 76 trademark territories in Africa, Latin
America and the Caribbean.
June 2000: Appointed to the Board of Dunlop Tyres (Pty) Ltd as
Director Export and Original Equipment. In 2001, planned, co-
ordinated and executed the relocation of the UK based Dunlop Tyres
International Limited to Durban. Increased exports sales from a base
of 5% in 1994 to 25% of company sales by end of 2002.

February 2003: Appointed to the newly created portfolio of Logistics
Director:
Implemented a bottom-up demand planning methodology in order to
improve production planning;
Enhanced the production planning process for 480 SKU’s at two
separate manufacturing locations;
Introduced optimal inventory control and supply network planning
resulting in a reduction in finished goods inventory from R210m/60
days to R150m/40 days;
Procurement of imported products – managing the importation of 500
SKU’s sourced from USA, Europe, Far East, Brazil and Zimbabwe;
Warehouse management – long and short term lease negotiation,
optimising capacity utilization through improved storage and materials
handling;
Transportation requirements – negotiate and manage long and short
term road and sea freight transportation contracts;
APDP – secure and negotiate the sale of excess Production Rebate
Credit Certificates generated from the company’s manufacturing
activities.
October 2007 to date: Appointed to the position of Head Supply Chain
with the additional responsibility of managing procurement
department – Over R1b pa spend on raw materials sourced locally and
from abroad, as well as services and capital item procurement.
Restructured the Procurement dept so as to align it with strategic
objectives.
January 2008 – appointed as alternate director to the South African
Tyre Manufacturers Confederation (SATMC) representing Apollo
Tyres South Africa (Pty) Ltd, and subsequently Sumitomo Rubber
South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
October 2009 – appointed as Apollo Tyres South Africa (Pty) Ltd’s
representative to the South African Tyre Recycling Process (SATRP)
company.
November 2009 – appointed to the Board of SATRP Company (a
Section 21 company) and elected Chairperson for the ensuing financial
year.
April 2010 – Awarded the prestigious “Employee of the Year (SA)
2009-10” from the Chairman of Apollo Tyres as recognition for
outstanding contribution to the organisation - being the driving force
to limit costs through the renegotiation of major supply contracts, as
well as the active management of inventory of raw materials and
finished goods specifically during the financial downturn, which

and generate savings for the organisation as a whole.
