EDUCATION
University of Stellenbosch, Stellenbosch, RSA
2011 – 2013: MScEng (Chemical Engineering)
The topic of my Masters thesis was „The study of enzymatic hydrolysis to improve sugar
production from steam-pretreated sweet sorghum bagasse and triticale straw‟. This involved
the design and optimisation of enzyme cocktails to maximise sugar yield during enzymatic
hydrolysis. I also developed and validated a micro-assay method based on handsheets by
which a multitude of feedstock varieties can simultaneously be hydrolysed in a rapid manner.
2010: BScHons (Biochemistry)
The in depth study of various subjects which included Energy metabolism, Steroid hormones,
Systems biology and Advanced protein-separation technology. My main project involved the
identification and cloning of a candidate gene in ostrich mycoplasmas for use in a DNA
vaccine.
2006 – 2009: BSc (Molecular Biology & Biotechnology)
Main subjects were Microbiology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology.
President High School, Goodwood, RSA
2001 – 2005: Senior Certificate
Matriculated with full exemption and A aggregate.
