In this month's issue, we address why it's important to remember that we have to take the time to take care of ourselves. The kids are back to school, and as we start our routine for this time of the year, we must take the time to focus on our emotional well being. Do you want to send in an article for October? Back to School, Back to YOU!
Yes, I said it. You have spent this Summer dropping the kids off to camp,
drinking sangria and enjoying time with friends.
Did you take a moment to really sit in calmness? Have you taken the time to
give yourself the credit you deserve for taking care of everyone in your life?
When is the last time you "enhaled and exhaled" with intention? Have you
tapped into the spirit of joy that has been waiting for you to do something
that makes you happy? Finding your joy is more than being a mom, a
spouse, or a friend. It's the one thing that you think about that makes you
smile. It's probably the last time you giggled or laughed out loud at the
secret you've been keeping from everyone else.
This is your season! It's time to find your passion.
School is not just for children, it's for you too!
Now, get to work! Work on the thing that lifts you up.
Get Back to School and Get Back to YOU!

Tomorrow is the optimal love for our students, teachers, parents, principals,
school bus drivers, librarians, superintendents, teacher aides, cafeteria
workers, coaches, volunteers, maintenance personnel, communities and
school board.
Tomorrow is the next day, the future and the day after today. Tomorrow is a
new beginning, a new experience, a new endeavor, a new try, and a new
method.
Tomorrow is a new undertaking, a new venture, and a new enterprise.
Tomorrow is cosmic, universal, and global.
Tomorrow is comprehensive, inclusive and total.
Tomorrow is infinite, unlimited, unbounded, countless and
vast.
This school year, like the many years before, are full with Tomorrows.
Tomorrow is prepared to embrace the positivity of education's challenges,
differences, misunderstandings, biases, and idiosyncrasies, so when this
school year is accomplished, we will look forward to going back to
school.

20 Ways to Put Yourself First- Dr. Frierson
Now When I saw this article in Essence Magazine, November 2012, I immediately tore it
out. I collect positive and inspirational articles and use them from time to time for myself
and others.
As school reopens for this 2017-2018 school year, especially for parents or guardians it’s
time to think about you. Thinking about oneself is not selfish, it’s extremely wise.
Think about the following list and consider implementing them into your life:
1. Pick up the phone and call a friend you have been meaning to call.
2. On your way to a party, stop by your favorite make-up counter and get a free
makeover.
3. Use your good china. You are worth it!
4. Let someone else plan the next girl outing.
5. Stop feeling guilty about every little thing.
6. Be still for a few minutes, even if it means getting up 10 minutes before everyone else.
7. Consider saying excuse me instead of I’m sorry. Stay positive.
8. Donate useable items. Throw the unusable ones away.
9. Cash in your pennies.
10. Determine how much time you want to spend when you schedule events.
11. Stock a basket in your bathroom with fun games.
12. Outsource one thing.
13. Take breaks during your work day.
14. When stressed, put your hand over your heart and say, “I understand.”
15. Make that doctor appointment.
16. Go to the store with those unused gift cards.
17. Send yourself a card.
18. Schedule a sleep date.
19. Let your loved ones know you need an hour or two, alone!
20. Go to the store and buy yourself a bouquet of flowers.
Enjoy yourself, you are worth it!

5. The Human in Human Capital-Natalie A. Smith
Leaders are often busy working on their organizational strategy and
building relationships outside of their organizations however they should
also make it a priority to build rapport internally to get the best out of
employees at all levels.
"Employee engagement" is a hot topic and many organizations struggle
with what that really means in terms of keeping their people collectively
involved and passionate about the work they're doing.
In light of recent events in this country and around the world, it's important
for leaders to acknowledge the impact on employees.
Charlotte and now, unfortunately, Hurricane Harvey are a part of daily
discussions in the workplace and while they can create tense discussions,
it's also an opportunity to realize that employees are humans who have
lives and the things that impact them in their daily life are often brought
into the workplace.
But have you considered that organizations can take these disasters and
use them as an opportunity to create an environment where employees
can have open discussions and build a consensus on a cause as a
demonstration of common understanding and teamwork?
And guess what, the organizational leaders that stand up, listen, engage,
empathize and create a sense of collaboration become the organizational
heroes.
This is where engagement begins.
Your employees are human beings and when
organizations realize they are more than just a position,
title and salary
on your financial statement, then that employee
transforms into the human capital that is truly
your best asset.

6. Reduce Stress and Plan Ahead- Dr. Renee Mason-Mazzei
The kids are headed back to school, and you are getting ready to adjust
your schedule around their activities and daily needs.
This may be a good time to plan out time for yourself.
The power of having an alternate plan can reduce tensions, anxiety, and
stress. Last month, "The Power of Plan B" was addressed.
What is going to be your back up plan or "Plan B" for the school year?
A backup plan or plan B is a mental safety net that reduces anxiety and
depression. Anxiety stems from the worry of the future and "what ifs".
Depression is created from living in the past, "if only".
Although it's important to live in the here and now, planning for the future
with an alternate plan, can and does cover potential pitfalls and reduces a
lot of stress, so here's to taking care of yourself!
