2. WHAT IS A SOCIAL GROUP?
• By definition a social group is as follows: a collection of people who interact with each other and
share similar characteristics and a sense of unity.
• A social group will have aspects of it that makes it unique from other social groups. They might,
for example, share the same taste in music or social values.
• These distinctions between groups allows the film industry in particular to stereotypically
categorize their audiences and make assumptions on what they believe their target audience
would be interested in watching and thus make appropriate adaptations to their film plot etc.
and adhere characters to match their target audiences persona so that they are more relatable.
• These groups can be represented in a variety of different ways throughout a film, for example
through different camera angles and clothing the characters wear and the impressions they
make on the audience when they are first revealed.
