Digital Update from NLW
The National Library of Wales has been digitising its collections for over 20 years. However, in recent years, the resources and funding available for mass digitisation have significantly reduced. In this talk I will look at some of the actions we have taken to ensure we can continue to provide access to our collections, and how we have used remote working during the global pandemic to make efficiencies in our workflows. I will look at the actions we took to ensure work could continue, and show how remote working enabled us to record a record year of productivity.

This is an example of how it works. Three maps in the correct location, but we’re not much wiser, they get in each other’s way.
Speaking of geographic location. This is a very significant part of the Cynefin system for people who like maps
Georeferencing
Quite simple really, the orange points on the left, on the tithe map, need to correspond to the other orange spots on the right on the modern OS map.
There’s more to it than just georeferencing. We need to clip the maps so that we only see the geographical information.
This is in order to create a unified map of Wales. We cut out the parish shapes, which often follow rivers. It looks like this, you can add and move little blue dots which define the shape of the outline.
When the maps are clipped you can see that they fit just like a jigsaw
We didn’t stop there of course, here’s all of the northern part of Ceredigion, and a few bits of Montgomeryshire and Merionethshire as well.
