AMETEK Oil & Gas is a group of companies specializing in meeting the
unique measurement and instrumentation needs of the oil and gas industry.
Headquartered in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, its portfolio of products offers
solutions for the upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the
industry. From instruments and equipment for production to petroleum
product testing equipment for terminals and consumers, AMETEK Oil &
Gas offers many technologies, systems and solutions that are unique to its
member companies. Member companies include Chandler Engineering,
Solartron ISA, Grabner Instruments and Petrolab Company.
Upon receiving approval to implement Microsoft’s Navision ERP at Chandler
Engineering and Petrolab, AMETEK was faced with the decision to host and
manage this system in-house or find a managed cloud hosting provider. The
company was growing rapidly and the Oil & Gas business unit needed to
scale quickly to meet the implementation schedule. The cloud could provide
that capability unlike on-site infrastructure, which would take more time and
space to expand. Ultimately, the notion of a hosted, 24/7-monitored solution
was the primary driver for choosing to go with a cloud provider.
Xtium was selected after a review of its Valley Forge data center and because
of its ability to support a quick implementation and scale easily as needed.

2. Working with Xtium enables AMETEK’s IT team to focus on their products
and core competencies rather than their infrastructure. The company
has also benefited from additional IT features – continuous monitoring,
disaster recovery, and top-tier data centers.
Going forward, AMETEK plans to implement the ERP in Shildon, UK and
Vienna, Austria. These operations will be hosted at Xtium and will share
some servers utilized by the U.S. operations.
