Assignment On Wildlife Conservation
Assignment – Wildlife and conservation
The main goals of wildlife conservation are to preserve and protect nature so that it will be around for future generations of both wildlife and humans to
enjoy. It is essentially the attempt to protect endangered animal and plant species and their natural habitats. In researching two different vertebrate
species in the United Kingdom, one that has benefitted from a population increase in recent years and one that has recently seen a decline in
population, the similarities and differences in the various challenges that they face can be investigated. The proposed solutions to improve the situation
for the declining species will then be discussed.
The UK population of the greater horseshoe bat, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, has significantly increased over the last twenty years (Bat Conservation
Trust, 2017). This recent success can be attributed to many factors such as the change in climate providing a more favourable environment for
populations to grow. The increased temperatures in the spring season result in pups being born earlier in the year and a greater abundance of
sustenance being available (Froidevaux et al, 2017). Females will mate from autumn until spring visiting various breeding territories in doing so. This
enables the females that rarely change colonies, to strengthen their colonies by choosing the best possible genetic material to pass to their offspring
(Rossiter et al, 2000).
In contrast to this the Gwyniad,

The Conservation Of Wildlife Animals
In "Lost in the Wild", Goodall tells us about her love for the animals, as well as her concern for their future. Through introduction, she discusses that
many of the species had and would still be endangered or extinct due to the negligence of human beings. Goodall concerns, "Will a nature–loving child
born seventy–five years from now long to see a live elephant as I longed to see a woolly mammoth?". However, she also mentioned that "sometimes
heroic efforts are being made to save and conserve threatened and endangered species." She ends her introduction by points out the highlight of the
stories she is about to recount next. The stories show problems and difficulties people faces as they work on the conservation of wildlife. One of the
wildlife animals being discusses is the California condors. Goodall starts the story with a humorous description about the condors; she describes the
redness of condors ' bare head and their strong wings. She continued by informs the readers about the decline of California condors and how it raised a
controversial between the biologists and the "protectionist" regarding the issue of captive breeding. As the possibility of condors surviving in the wild
decreases, the argument finally comes to an end when the "last wild Condors [are] taken into captivity" and "officially extinct in the wild".
Nevertheless, there are many problems occurred during the captive breeding, mostly the concerning the reproduction of the condors. The factors

Effects Of Wildlife Conservation On Wildlife
Humans are not the only habitants of this earth so are the wildlife that surrounds us. We are in symbiosis relationship with the animals that are around
us. Due to the population boom of humans, we are at a constant clash between the natural world and the human world. When the habitats of these
animals are under severe pressure and a large number of species of wild fauna have become endangered, the significance of wildlife conservation
becomes urgent. The increase in human populations has had a negative effect on the wildlife population. Studies have shown that with an increase of
human population, there has been a steady decrease in wildlife population. This is due to more land being used by humans which in turn decreases or

The categories according to the IUCN are "Extinct (EX) when there is no reasonable doubt that the last individual has died. A taxon is presumed
extinct when exhaustive surveys in known and/or expected habitat. Extinct in the wild (EW) is when it is known only to survive in cultivation, in
captivity or as a naturalized population. Critically endangered (CE) considered to be facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.
Endangered (EN), considered to be facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild. Vulnerable (VU) is when an observed, estimated, inferred or
suspected population size reduction of ≥ 50% over the last 10 years or three generations, whichever is the longer. Near threatened (NT) when it has
been evaluated against the criteria but does not qualify for Critically Endangered, Endangered or Vulnerable now, but is close to qualifying for or is
likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future. Least concern (LC) is when it has been evaluated against the criteria and does not qualify
for Critically Endangered, Endangered, Vulnerable or Near Threatened. Widespread and abundant species are included in this category." The last two
categories are data deficient and not evaluated and both categories are of least concern due to thriving populations or populations that have not been
studied.

Hunting Conservation : Wildlife Management Tool
Hunting is viewed as a sport or hobby in which the activity of hunting wild animals or game is the goal, especially for food or sport. On the other hand
is Conservation, which is the action of conserving something, in particular. Preservation, protection, or restoration of the natural environment, natural
ecosystems, vegetation, and wildlife are just some of the examples in which conservation is exercised. If you were ask anyone, usually you would view
Hunting and Conservation as two opposites. But, some people actually view the two as hand in hand. How is hunting conservation? It's viewed as a
wildlife management tool. Hunting helps balance wildlife populations with what the land can support, limits crop damage and curtails disease
outbreaks. (25 Reasons Why Hunting Is Conservation #17) Also, all together, hunters pay more than $1.6 billion a year for conservation programs. No
one gives more! (25 Reasons Why Hunting Is Conservation #11) Some may ask "What are the cultural, political, and economic connection between
outdoor sports like hunting and ecological conservation?" Hunting is supported and marketed by the same demographic that supports the sustainability
of preserves and conservation efforts. Without organized stewardships, human environments would encroach upon animal habitats, thereby exposing
populations to menace, deterioration, and decline. Take the organization 'Ducks Unlimited' for instance. Ducks Unlimited is a popular brand amongst
men in the south

The Importance Of Wildlife Conservation
History has shown that humans and wildlife always come in conflict for territory and resources, and a majority of the time humans emerge victorious.
Humans have drastically and permanently altered the environment to suit their needs, usually creating negative consequences for the native fauna. But,
as of late, we as a society are coming together, recognizing these effects and working towards restoring ecological balance. Even so, places on UC
Davis, a school that emphasizes and teaches the importance of ecological balance and sustainability, like the Quad are limited in supporting wildlife
due to fragmentation by buildings and heavy traffic. However, at locations like the Arboretum and Putah Creek Reserve, the environmental needs are
put above humans' and as such, the native fauna are returning. Wildlife will thrive and remain a part of UC Davis' future if administration, faculty, and
students designate and maintain areas such as Putah Creek to be fit for the ecosystem and its species. When non–native settlers moved in, wildlife
began to disappear and field trip locations' one, five, and seven reflect this change. In the early 1800s, Spanish and Mexican settlers used the land
surrounding Putah Creek for their cattle to graze (Moyle 2). In doing so, this altered the environment, introducing new species and reducing native
populations. Even now, there is livestock like sheep and cattle such as location seven with little observable native. Then, American settlers reshaped

Conservation And Management Of Wildlife
Executive summary
"The Greatness of nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated" – Mahatma Gandhi
Unfortunately, we often hear the news about the illicit wildlife trafficking or illegal wildlife trade. Wildlife seems to be traded all around us. It is
used not only as pets and trophies but also for food, leather, home decorations and medical purposes.
Wildlife is an important part of ecological community as it plays an important role in the environment. I know that conservation and management of
wildlife is a very complex issue, but to save wildlife, we should take some positive actions, which requires changes in our life style and changes in our
general way of thinking so that the future generations of both wildlife and human can enjoy it.
Any actions threatening wildlife and its habitat must be banned right now.
Introduction
Today more and more wildlife is becoming extinct or in danger of extinction for various reasons. There are different types of wildlife exploitation,
with varying effects on the welfare of the animals involved< worldanimal.net, n.d>. However, we should notice that wildlife is killed and exploited by
us. In other words, Human beings are destroying the planet.
Recently, I saw an article on the New Zealand herald, which was about whaling carried out by Japan. Despite the global ban of commercial whaling,
Japan has insisted it decided to kill 333 whales a year in order to find out how the marine ecosystem is

The crucial role of the Philippine government on wildlife conservation
Thesis Statement: The Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (R.A. 9174) of the Philippines should be prioritized and reinstated because
of its failure to serve its purpose in the past, its ability to lessen the rising human–caused extinction rates, and its possible influence in restoring and
promoting action regarding wildlife conservation.
The loss of biodiversity and wildlife is becoming a larger problem every year yet most people disregard it and its consequences. Wildlife plays a big
part in maintaining environmental support to human life––serving as a source of food, contributing to agriculture, aiding in medical research, and many
more. The continued erosion of ecosystem and species diversity threatens the progress to a sustainable society and lessens the chances of stable
environmental conditions in the future. As the effects of human actions become more damaging to the environment and the situation of wildlife
worsens, the government must step up and introduce national policies for conservation....show more content...
9147 would be enforced properly, Philippine wildlife conservation may become more successful. The policy itself does not require modifications. It is
in the process of following its objectives that begs for reform. The government may start by changing current policies that allow and invite the misuse
of wildlife and other environmental resources. Aside from formulating environmental policies for conservation, the government should also consider
altering policies that motivate citizens to exploit the environment. Such policies are those which promote over–exploitation of forests, damaging
habitats for the purpose of urbanization, and the overuse of natural resources (Reid, Barber & Miller,

Hunting : The Benefits Of Wildlife Conservation
The Benefits of Hunting
Conservation is the protection and preservation of nature (Peterson 53). Hunting is an important part of the conservation of wildlife. Hunting is widely
considered a crucial part of wildlife conservation. Hunting benefits wildlife by controlling the population, raising funds for wildlife conservation, and
protect wildlife.
In America, there are 15 million hunters annually ("Hunting conservation"1). Hunting is a common activity around the world. Hunting is performed for
several reasons. Some hunt to provide food, while others hunt for enjoyment. Hunters are among the foremost supporters of wildlife conservation (1).
Through many ways they help benefit wildlife. Hunting is used as a management tool around the world....show more content...
Hunting is a valuable source of funding for conservation. Hunters pay fees and taxes, which go towards wildlife management programs (Peterson
22–23). According to North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission "hunting related spending supports wildlife agencies through license sales and the
excise tax on hunting equipment" ("Benefits" 1). There have been many federal efforts to create funding for conservation from hunting. The
Pittman–Robertson act was established to raise funds for conservation by levying taxes and fees (Gooch 2). The Pittman– Robertson act has raised
$10.1 billion since it was enacted in 1937 (Guiden 3). This money is used for conservation all over the country. According to The U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service "the sale of hunting license, tags, and stamps is the primary source of funding for most state wildlife conservation efforts" ("Fish
and Wildlife" 1). State License and fees raise $796 million a year for conservation programs ("25 reasons" 1). For example, "In Michigan, hunters pay
for approximately 80 percent of the Department of Natural Resources' wildlife management" ("Hunting and wildlife" 1). These programs have helped
preserve the wildlife of the state for future generations. The funding from hunting has been very successful in supporting wildlife management. North
America Contained Only 41,000 elk in 1907("25 reasons" 1). Today there are over 1 million elk in North America (1).

Marine Conservation Essay
Marine conservation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Coral reefs have a great amount of biodiversity.
Marine conservation, also known as marine resources conservation, is the protection and preservation of ecosystems in oceans and seas. Marine
conservation focuses on limiting human–caused damage to marine ecosystems, and on restoring damaged marine ecosystems. Marine conservation also
focuses on preserving vulnerable marine species.

However, many fisherman are unable to catch as many fish as they used to, so they are increasingly using cyanide and dynamite in fishing, which
further degrades the coral reef ecosystem.[6] This perpetuation of bad habits simply leads to the further decline of coral reefs and therefore
perpetuating the problem. One solution to stopping this cycle is to educate the local community about why conservation of marine spaces that include
coral reefs is important.[7] Once the local communities understand the personal stakes at risk then they will actually fight to preserve the reefs.
Conserving coral reefs has many economic, social, and ecological benefits, not only for the people who live on these islands, but for people throughout
the world as well.
Human impact
The deterioration of coral reefs is mainly linked to human activities – 88% of coral reefs are threatened through various reasons as

The Negative Impacts Of Wildlife Conservation
Nature provides people with everything they need to survive, but humans have a negative impact on nature which affects both humans and animals.
Wildlife conservation is very important because if humans allow plant and animal species to go extinct at the rate they are now, many species will be
lost and life on earth would fall apart. Conserving species helps maintain biodiversity which helps slow down extinction rates. Animals that have
diverse genetics allow them to evolve and adapt to changing environments (Paterson). Nature is not here just for us, so humans should help to preserve
it or at least decrease extinction rates. Every organism has a role in an ecosystem and all of them are important to maintain balance (Marshall).
Indicator species might forewarn human health as well because if there is something in an environment, like a toxin or a hazardous substance, it can
also be harmful to humans (Chevalier). Indicator species can show us how an ecosystem is doing and if it is healthy or not (Paterson). Saving one
species from extinction can solve other environmental problems. A good example is, wolf populations going down would cause reindeer populations
to skyrocket, causing there to be less vegetation for the reindeer and other animals. The lack of food would cause high death rates until wolf
populations increased (Stubblefield). Losing too many species can have a huge affect on humans because humans rely on nature for survival (Paterson).
Biodiversity is important

Plant preservation is a constant struggle for botanists attempting to help plants that are on the verge of extinction. According to John Vidal from the
Huffington Post, "Scientists estimate that 150–200 species of plant, insect, bird and mammal become extinct every 24 hours". While some plants are,
evolutionarily speaking, not savable many others can still be protected. With the astounding number of plants that are already dying off it is no
wonder something must be done to help protect plants. In the past the only way to monitor some plants would be to either venture far distances even
deep within jungles or stay close to the area under protection. While this method does allow for the plants to be closely monitored there has been a
new technology that could make this process much simpler. Global Positioning System or GPS combined with GIS or Geographic Information System
is a way that, from anywhere, botanists could check on the entire population of plants around the world. With the press of a button the area of the
Congo or even Manila could be watch over from anywhere in the world. The preservation of plants in today's society is more important than ever and
with the correct technological tools we can better protect many integral plants. While many will not see the effects day to day from the extinction of
some plants there are many plants that if lost could be detrimental to entire world. From medicinal plants to plants used as a food resource the loss of a

Animal captivation has been an on–going debate for many years. The idea of taking wildlife from their homes, in many eyes, is tragic. To others, it is
a step in the right direction. It is a step towards, not only well–developed and in–depth research, butalso a step towards the conservation of endangered
species. As one can tell, these views can be quite disputable, however this paper will discuss and compare both perspectives as well as dive into
more specific aspects of wildlife captivity. Some of these aspects include the lifespan comparisons, specific roaming necessities per animal and even
changes in animal behavior. Of course, keeping animals in captivity has pros and cons. Given that researchers are still uncertain of captivity...show more

This collection of sources includes mostly online articles as well as several news articles and books. The sources range from the discussions of the
lifespan of numerous animals tothe reasoning behind study observations and research. In "Zoos' Involvement in Wildlife Conservation," Ramsey
begins by explaining the comparison between the beginning of animal captivity to the modern–day characteristics. He describes the very first zoos as
having the focus to gain profit from the public, rather than the concentration being towards the welfare of the animal. Today, the well–being of animals
is the top priority in many programs across the world. Not only does this article also describe the challenges that the programs must face, but also the
difficult decisions the leaders are required to make to continue their success in advanced research and conservation. Some of which include the decision
on whether or not to offer predators live prey to exert their natural hunting instincts. The source concludes by informing the audience that some species
could not have survived without the help and involvement of zoos. Vittania.org emphasizes the effects on animals in captivity in its' article "21 Pros
and Cons of Zoos." This source explains how zoos provide educational learning, preservation of endangered animals to prevent extinction, humane
treatment towards the animals, readily available veterinary care. In addition, zoos also serve as an economic resource for the community by providing
jobs and increasing tourism statistics. It goes on to explain the negative impacts such as changes in their natural behaviors. Elephants, for example, need
larger enclosures than a zoo can accommodate. Restricting the animals natural need to migrate results in a shorter lifespan in captivity and also a more
aggressive temperament.Another negative impact

Wildlife Preservation
You hear about it all the time, and you read bout it in newspapers and magazines on how some nearby wildlife habitat is going to be torn up by an
army of machinery and turned into a Super Wall Mart with a parking lot that's big enough to fit five thousand cars. Is this really necessary? Is there a
need to take every last bit of our wildlife at the expense of our capitalist society? It seems that humanity's interactions with wildlife has been based on
ignorance and the self–interest of the persons involved. The termination of wildlife and it habitats must be reversed for the sake of all of us, the land
and wildlife, and future generations to come. If you are a true believer in the preservation of wildlife,...show more content...
Another charity organization is the Wildlife Preservation Trust Canada.
"Wildlife Preservation Trust Canada is a dynamic non–profit charitable organization devoted to saving highly endangered animal species facing
extinction in Canada and internationally. This is accomplished through focused species conservation and professional training programs,
complemented by education and outreach programs." (http://www.wptc.org/) It's plain to see that there are people out in our society that don't think
twice about what happens to their ecosystem and wildlife when hundreds if not thousands of acres of land are being destroyed for the grounds of a
mall that's being built within miles of yet another mega–complex shopping center. And there are those who do care about wildlife preservation and get
involved with local organizations for preservation for generations to come. The people at Green Peace, one of the most recognized wildlife
organization have come together to form a group of peacemakers looking out for the environment. "In 1971, motivated by their vision of a green and
peaceful world, a small team of activists set sail from Vancouver, Canada, in an old fishing boat. These activists, the founders ofGreenpeace, believed a
few individuals could make a difference."Their mission statement reads: "Greenpeace is an independent, campaigning organization that uses

Also, when the deer population is too high, farmers crops become damaged by the deer, as well as there are more deer killings by car ("Deer" par.

keeping one species in its own habitat and preventing it from expanding into habitats that are not its own. Species who manage to do this are called
invasive species. Species such as the Lionfish. Lionfish are not a native species to the Atlantic Ocean. They are a venomous, fast reproducing fish
that are aggressive eaters and will eat almost anything in copious amounts. They eat so much that they will actual become obese and contract liver
diseases. They have no know predators, besides humans. Because they have no predators, once introduced to a reef, they can wipe out 90% of it. "The
lionfish invasion is probably the worst environmental disaster the Atlantic will ever face" said Graham Maddocks, president and founder of Ocean
Support Foundation ("Lionfish" Par. 3). Lionfish are especially dangerous to ecosystems, because the native aquatic life–forms do not have a natural
instinct to be wary of the lionfish. Some may wonder, "how did the lionfish become introduced to the Atlantic ocean?". Well, Florida pet owners are to
blame. Lionfish are most known for their beauty, which makes them valuable as pets. However, they are violent fish and tend to attack and kill other

The conservation ethic was imbibed in the sylvan surroundings of the ashrams of sages which were the seats of learning in the country's ancient
past. Indian wildlife sanctuaries are home to diverse species of birds, mammals and other animals. In India there are around 531 wildlife
sanctuaries. Among these wildlife sanctuaries, Project Tiger in India governs 28 Tiger Reserves and they hold special significance in the
preservation of tiger. Interestingly, some of the wildlife sanctuaries are specifically named as Bird Sanctuary, such as Keoladeo Ghana National
Park before they attained the status of National Park. Several National Parks of the country were formerly wildlife sanctuaries. Wildlife sanctuaries
in India cover near about 4.5 percent of the country's total geographical area. These sanctuaries are scattered throughout the country and they with
their amazing rock formation, diverse flora and fauna and beautiful landscapes attract the attention of the tourists from far and wide. National Parks
in India are IUCN category II protected areas. As of July 2015 there were 105 National Parks encompassing an area of 40,500 sq km comprising 1.23%

Introduction
This research paper is going to be based on a few focal points. The first topic this essay is going to cover is how local communities can be aided by
government efforts to conserve biodiversity. The second half will consist of examples showing how species can be both positively and negatively
affected by conservation efforts.
Local v. Government
The biology aspect of this paper is ecology. So, how is wildlife conservation related to ecology? Since the suffix "–ology" means "the study of" and
"eco" is short for ecosystems or environments, ecology is the study of environments and how the living organisms interact within these habitats. The
word "wildlife" was used to refer to animal species that are undomesticated, but was revised and currently includes a larger variety of organisms.
These organisms were not introduced by humans and include species like animals, fungi, and plants. Both wildlife and ecology are used to describe
organisms and where their habitats are located. If someone wanted to directly compare ecology and wildlife, they could almost say that ecology is
the study of wildlife because wildlife includes biotic (living) factors that are located in an ecosystem. Another example of how the two are related is
that they are both constantly changing. Both wildlife and ecology can be affected by multiple influences. These factors could be natural, like natural
disturbances or an introduction of a new species. They could also be impacted by man–made

Hunting not only provides people with healthy organic meat, it is also instrumental in the management and preservation of wildlife not only through
the hunting itself, but also by the money generated by hunters that is used for this purpose. Hunting has existed since the dawn of time and continues
to play a key role in providing people with the food they need to survive. Hunting plays many important roles in our world and has been a very
effective tool for wildlife management and hopefully will continue to be. Hunting plays a vital role in the conservation of wildlife. Many anti–hunters
will say it "damages the environment" and that, "it does not help wildlife at all". In reality, without hunting wildlife and the environment would both
suffer greatly. This can be clearly seen in the elk population in North America. In 1907 only 41,000 elk remained in North America. Thanks to the
money and work invested by hunters to restore and conserve their habitat, over 1 million elk now inhabit North American today. (Rocky Mountain Elk
Foundation, web) This is proof that what hunters are actually doing is giving the wildlife they pursue more habitat to allow their populations to be
more stable. Another way that hunting helps with conservation, is that it generates great deal of income in which a large majority of goes towards land
management for the animals. Certain hunts are auctioned off for thousands of dollars, almost all of this money goes towards the

Assignment On Wildlife Conservation

  • 1. Assignment On Wildlife Conservation Assignment – Wildlife and conservation The main goals of wildlife conservation are to preserve and protect nature so that it will be around for future generations of both wildlife and humans to enjoy. It is essentially the attempt to protect endangered animal and plant species and their natural habitats. In researching two different vertebrate species in the United Kingdom, one that has benefitted from a population increase in recent years and one that has recently seen a decline in population, the similarities and differences in the various challenges that they face can be investigated. The proposed solutions to improve the situation for the declining species will then be discussed. The UK population of the greater horseshoe bat, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, has significantly increased over the last twenty years (Bat Conservation Trust, 2017). This recent success can be attributed to many factors such as the change in climate providing a more favourable environment for populations to grow. The increased temperatures in the spring season result in pups being born earlier in the year and a greater abundance of sustenance being available (Froidevaux et al, 2017). Females will mate from autumn until spring visiting various breeding territories in doing so. This enables the females that rarely change colonies, to strengthen their colonies by choosing the best possible genetic material to pass to their offspring (Rossiter et al, 2000). • 2. The Conservation Of Wildlife Animals In "Lost in the Wild", Goodall tells us about her love for the animals, as well as her concern for their future. Through introduction, she discusses that many of the species had and would still be endangered or extinct due to the negligence of human beings. Goodall concerns, "Will a nature–loving child born seventy–five years from now long to see a live elephant as I longed to see a woolly mammoth?". However, she also mentioned that "sometimes heroic efforts are being made to save and conserve threatened and endangered species." She ends her introduction by points out the highlight of the stories she is about to recount next. The stories show problems and difficulties people faces as they work on the conservation of wildlife. One of the wildlife animals being discusses is the California condors. Goodall starts the story with a humorous description about the condors; she describes the redness of condors ' bare head and their strong wings. She continued by informs the readers about the decline of California condors and how it raised a controversial between the biologists and the "protectionist" regarding the issue of captive breeding. As the possibility of condors surviving in the wild decreases, the argument finally comes to an end when the "last wild Condors [are] taken into captivity" and "officially extinct in the wild". Nevertheless, there are many problems occurred during the captive breeding, mostly the concerning the reproduction of the condors. The factors determined Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Effects Of Wildlife Conservation On Wildlife Humans are not the only habitants of this earth so are the wildlife that surrounds us. We are in symbiosis relationship with the animals that are around us. Due to the population boom of humans, we are at a constant clash between the natural world and the human world. When the habitats of these animals are under severe pressure and a large number of species of wild fauna have become endangered, the significance of wildlife conservation becomes urgent. The increase in human populations has had a negative effect on the wildlife population. Studies have shown that with an increase of human population, there has been a steady decrease in wildlife population. This is due to more land being used by humans which in turn decreases or damages...show more content... The categories according to the IUCN are "Extinct (EX) when there is no reasonable doubt that the last individual has died. A taxon is presumed extinct when exhaustive surveys in known and/or expected habitat. Extinct in the wild (EW) is when it is known only to survive in cultivation, in captivity or as a naturalized population. Critically endangered (CE) considered to be facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild. Endangered (EN), considered to be facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild. Vulnerable (VU) is when an observed, estimated, inferred or suspected population size reduction of ≥ 50% over the last 10 years or three generations, whichever is the longer. Near threatened (NT) when it has been evaluated against the criteria but does not qualify for Critically Endangered, Endangered or Vulnerable now, but is close to qualifying for or is likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future. Least concern (LC) is when it has been evaluated against the criteria and does not qualify for Critically Endangered, Endangered, Vulnerable or Near Threatened. Widespread and abundant species are included in this category." The last two categories are data deficient and not evaluated and both categories are of least concern due to thriving populations or populations that have not been studied. • 4. Hunting Conservation : Wildlife Management Tool Hunting is viewed as a sport or hobby in which the activity of hunting wild animals or game is the goal, especially for food or sport. On the other hand is Conservation, which is the action of conserving something, in particular. Preservation, protection, or restoration of the natural environment, natural ecosystems, vegetation, and wildlife are just some of the examples in which conservation is exercised. If you were ask anyone, usually you would view Hunting and Conservation as two opposites. But, some people actually view the two as hand in hand. How is hunting conservation? It's viewed as a wildlife management tool. Hunting helps balance wildlife populations with what the land can support, limits crop damage and curtails disease outbreaks. (25 Reasons Why Hunting Is Conservation #17) Also, all together, hunters pay more than $1.6 billion a year for conservation programs. No one gives more! (25 Reasons Why Hunting Is Conservation #11) Some may ask "What are the cultural, political, and economic connection between outdoor sports like hunting and ecological conservation?" Hunting is supported and marketed by the same demographic that supports the sustainability of preserves and conservation efforts. Without organized stewardships, human environments would encroach upon animal habitats, thereby exposing populations to menace, deterioration, and decline. Take the organization 'Ducks Unlimited' for instance. Ducks Unlimited is a popular brand amongst men in the south Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The Importance Of Wildlife Conservation History has shown that humans and wildlife always come in conflict for territory and resources, and a majority of the time humans emerge victorious. Humans have drastically and permanently altered the environment to suit their needs, usually creating negative consequences for the native fauna. But, as of late, we as a society are coming together, recognizing these effects and working towards restoring ecological balance. Even so, places on UC Davis, a school that emphasizes and teaches the importance of ecological balance and sustainability, like the Quad are limited in supporting wildlife due to fragmentation by buildings and heavy traffic. However, at locations like the Arboretum and Putah Creek Reserve, the environmental needs are put above humans' and as such, the native fauna are returning. Wildlife will thrive and remain a part of UC Davis' future if administration, faculty, and students designate and maintain areas such as Putah Creek to be fit for the ecosystem and its species. When non–native settlers moved in, wildlife began to disappear and field trip locations' one, five, and seven reflect this change. In the early 1800s, Spanish and Mexican settlers used the land surrounding Putah Creek for their cattle to graze (Moyle 2). In doing so, this altered the environment, introducing new species and reducing native populations. Even now, there is livestock like sheep and cattle such as location seven with little observable native. Then, American settlers reshaped Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Conservation And Management Of Wildlife Executive summary "The Greatness of nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated" – Mahatma Gandhi Unfortunately, we often hear the news about the illicit wildlife trafficking or illegal wildlife trade. Wildlife seems to be traded all around us. It is used not only as pets and trophies but also for food, leather, home decorations and medical purposes. Wildlife is an important part of ecological community as it plays an important role in the environment. I know that conservation and management of wildlife is a very complex issue, but to save wildlife, we should take some positive actions, which requires changes in our life style and changes in our general way of thinking so that the future generations of both wildlife and human can enjoy it. Any actions threatening wildlife and its habitat must be banned right now. Introduction Today more and more wildlife is becoming extinct or in danger of extinction for various reasons. There are different types of wildlife exploitation, with varying effects on the welfare of the animals involved< worldanimal.net, n.d>. However, we should notice that wildlife is killed and exploited by us. In other words, Human beings are destroying the planet. Recently, I saw an article on the New Zealand herald, which was about whaling carried out by Japan. Despite the global ban of commercial whaling, Japan has insisted it decided to kill 333 whales a year in order to find out how the marine ecosystem is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Pascua, Francis Augustus A. ___________________________________________________April 21, 2015 ENG 2 V–4R____________________________________________________________________LRP Draft The crucial role of the Philippine government on wildlife conservation Thesis Statement: The Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (R.A. 9174) of the Philippines should be prioritized and reinstated because of its failure to serve its purpose in the past, its ability to lessen the rising human–caused extinction rates, and its possible influence in restoring and promoting action regarding wildlife conservation. The loss of biodiversity and wildlife is becoming a larger problem every year yet most people disregard it and its consequences. Wildlife plays a big part in maintaining environmental support to human life––serving as a source of food, contributing to agriculture, aiding in medical research, and many more. The continued erosion of ecosystem and species diversity threatens the progress to a sustainable society and lessens the chances of stable environmental conditions in the future. As the effects of human actions become more damaging to the environment and the situation of wildlife worsens, the government must step up and introduce national policies for conservation....show more content... 9147 would be enforced properly, Philippine wildlife conservation may become more successful. The policy itself does not require modifications. It is in the process of following its objectives that begs for reform. The government may start by changing current policies that allow and invite the misuse of wildlife and other environmental resources. Aside from formulating environmental policies for conservation, the government should also consider altering policies that motivate citizens to exploit the environment. Such policies are those which promote over–exploitation of forests, damaging habitats for the purpose of urbanization, and the overuse of natural resources (Reid, Barber & Miller, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Hunting : The Benefits Of Wildlife Conservation The Benefits of Hunting Conservation is the protection and preservation of nature (Peterson 53). Hunting is an important part of the conservation of wildlife. Hunting is widely considered a crucial part of wildlife conservation. Hunting benefits wildlife by controlling the population, raising funds for wildlife conservation, and protect wildlife. In America, there are 15 million hunters annually ("Hunting conservation"1). Hunting is a common activity around the world. Hunting is performed for several reasons. Some hunt to provide food, while others hunt for enjoyment. Hunters are among the foremost supporters of wildlife conservation (1). Through many ways they help benefit wildlife. Hunting is used as a management tool around the world....show more content... Hunting is a valuable source of funding for conservation. Hunters pay fees and taxes, which go towards wildlife management programs (Peterson 22–23). According to North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission "hunting related spending supports wildlife agencies through license sales and the excise tax on hunting equipment" ("Benefits" 1). There have been many federal efforts to create funding for conservation from hunting. The Pittman–Robertson act was established to raise funds for conservation by levying taxes and fees (Gooch 2). The Pittman– Robertson act has raised $10.1 billion since it was enacted in 1937 (Guiden 3). This money is used for conservation all over the country. According to The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service "the sale of hunting license, tags, and stamps is the primary source of funding for most state wildlife conservation efforts" ("Fish and Wildlife" 1). State License and fees raise $796 million a year for conservation programs ("25 reasons" 1). For example, "In Michigan, hunters pay for approximately 80 percent of the Department of Natural Resources' wildlife management" ("Hunting and wildlife" 1). These programs have helped preserve the wildlife of the state for future generations. The funding from hunting has been very successful in supporting wildlife management. North America Contained Only 41,000 elk in 1907("25 reasons" 1). Today there are over 1 million elk in North America (1). Lastly, hunting is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Marine Conservation Essay Marine conservation From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Coral reefs have a great amount of biodiversity. Marine conservation, also known as marine resources conservation, is the protection and preservation of ecosystems in oceans and seas. Marine conservation focuses on limiting human–caused damage to marine ecosystems, and on restoring damaged marine ecosystems. Marine conservation also focuses on preserving vulnerable marine species. However, many fisherman are unable to catch as many fish as they used to, so they are increasingly using cyanide and dynamite in fishing, which further degrades the coral reef ecosystem.[6] This perpetuation of bad habits simply leads to the further decline of coral reefs and therefore perpetuating the problem. One solution to stopping this cycle is to educate the local community about why conservation of marine spaces that include coral reefs is important.[7] Once the local communities understand the personal stakes at risk then they will actually fight to preserve the reefs. Conserving coral reefs has many economic, social, and ecological benefits, not only for the people who live on these islands, but for people throughout the world as well. Human impact The deterioration of coral reefs is mainly linked to human activities – 88% of coral reefs are threatened through various reasons as

  • 11. The Negative Impacts Of Wildlife Conservation Nature provides people with everything they need to survive, but humans have a negative impact on nature which affects both humans and animals. Wildlife conservation is very important because if humans allow plant and animal species to go extinct at the rate they are now, many species will be lost and life on earth would fall apart. Conserving species helps maintain biodiversity which helps slow down extinction rates. Animals that have diverse genetics allow them to evolve and adapt to changing environments (Paterson). Nature is not here just for us, so humans should help to preserve it or at least decrease extinction rates. Every organism has a role in an ecosystem and all of them are important to maintain balance (Marshall). Indicator species might forewarn human health as well because if there is something in an environment, like a toxin or a hazardous substance, it can also be harmful to humans (Chevalier). Indicator species can show us how an ecosystem is doing and if it is healthy or not (Paterson). Saving one species from extinction can solve other environmental problems. A good example is, wolf populations going down would cause reindeer populations to skyrocket, causing there to be less vegetation for the reindeer and other animals. The lack of food would cause high death rates until wolf populations increased (Stubblefield). Losing too many species can have a huge affect on humans because humans rely on nature for survival (Paterson). Biodiversity is important Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. Plant preservation is a constant struggle for botanists attempting to help plants that are on the verge of extinction. According to John Vidal from the Huffington Post, "Scientists estimate that 150–200 species of plant, insect, bird and mammal become extinct every 24 hours". While some plants are, evolutionarily speaking, not savable many others can still be protected. With the astounding number of plants that are already dying off it is no wonder something must be done to help protect plants. In the past the only way to monitor some plants would be to either venture far distances even deep within jungles or stay close to the area under protection. While this method does allow for the plants to be closely monitored there has been a new technology that could make this process much simpler. Global Positioning System or GPS combined with GIS or Geographic Information System is a way that, from anywhere, botanists could check on the entire population of plants around the world. With the press of a button the area of the Congo or even Manila could be watch over from anywhere in the world. The preservation of plants in today's society is more important than ever and with the correct technological tools we can better protect many integral plants. While many will not see the effects day to day from the extinction of some plants there are many plants that if lost could be detrimental to entire world. • 14. Animal captivation has been an on–going debate for many years. The idea of taking wildlife from their homes, in many eyes, is tragic. To others, it is a step in the right direction. It is a step towards, not only well–developed and in–depth research, butalso a step towards the conservation of endangered species. As one can tell, these views can be quite disputable, however this paper will discuss and compare both perspectives as well as dive into more specific aspects of wildlife captivity. Some of these aspects include the lifespan comparisons, specific roaming necessities per animal and even changes in animal behavior. Of course, keeping animals in captivity has pros and cons. Given that researchers are still uncertain of captivity...show more content... This collection of sources includes mostly online articles as well as several news articles and books. The sources range from the discussions of the lifespan of numerous animals tothe reasoning behind study observations and research. In "Zoos' Involvement in Wildlife Conservation," Ramsey begins by explaining the comparison between the beginning of animal captivity to the modern–day characteristics. He describes the very first zoos as having the focus to gain profit from the public, rather than the concentration being towards the welfare of the animal. Today, the well–being of animals is the top priority in many programs across the world. Not only does this article also describe the challenges that the programs must face, but also the difficult decisions the leaders are required to make to continue their success in advanced research and conservation. Some of which include the decision on whether or not to offer predators live prey to exert their natural hunting instincts. The source concludes by informing the audience that some species could not have survived without the help and involvement of zoos. Vittania.org emphasizes the effects on animals in captivity in its' article "21 Pros and Cons of Zoos." This source explains how zoos provide educational learning, preservation of endangered animals to prevent extinction, humane treatment towards the animals, readily available veterinary care. In addition, zoos also serve as an economic resource for the community by providing jobs and increasing tourism statistics. It goes on to explain the negative impacts such as changes in their natural behaviors. Elephants, for example, need larger enclosures than a zoo can accommodate. Restricting the animals natural need to migrate results in a shorter lifespan in captivity and also a more aggressive temperament.Another negative impact Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Wildlife Preservation Essay examples Wildlife Preservation You hear about it all the time, and you read bout it in newspapers and magazines on how some nearby wildlife habitat is going to be torn up by an army of machinery and turned into a Super Wall Mart with a parking lot that's big enough to fit five thousand cars. Is this really necessary? Is there a need to take every last bit of our wildlife at the expense of our capitalist society? It seems that humanity's interactions with wildlife has been based on ignorance and the self–interest of the persons involved. The termination of wildlife and it habitats must be reversed for the sake of all of us, the land and wildlife, and future generations to come. (http://www.wptc.org/) It's plain to see that there are people out in our society that don't think twice about what happens to their ecosystem and wildlife when hundreds if not thousands of acres of land are being destroyed for the grounds of a mall that's being built within miles of yet another mega–complex shopping center. And there are those who do care about wildlife preservation and get involved with local organizations for preservation for generations to come. The people at Green Peace, one of the most recognized wildlife organization have come together to form a group of peacemakers looking out for the environment. "In 1971, motivated by their vision of a green and peaceful world, a small team of activists set sail from Vancouver, Canada, in an old fishing boat. These activists, the founders ofGreenpeace, believed a few individuals could make a difference."Their mission statement reads: "Greenpeace is an independent, campaigning organization that uses Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Wildlife Conservation Essay They are responsible for cleaning the air most living creatures breath, they give humans and animals material to build homes and buildings with, they help keep the dirt in place, and, among many other uses, they gave humans the material that people use every day, paper. They do all this for humans, and all they need in return is for their young to be planted. If you have not guessed by now, this is describing trees. It is vital for humans to maintain not only the trees population, but also the population of all wildlife. Wildlife conservation is important because regulates wildlife population, helps balance the ecosystem, and maintains the natural beauty for future generations. People mostly assume that maintaining wildlife population...show more content... Also, when the deer population is too high, farmers crops become damaged by the deer, as well as there are more deer killings by car ("Deer" par. 1–10). It is important to keep track of an animals population in order to make sure that the negative side affects do not occur. Sometimes it means keeping one species in its own habitat and preventing it from expanding into habitats that are not its own. Species who manage to do this are called invasive species. Species such as the Lionfish. Lionfish are not a native species to the Atlantic Ocean. They are a venomous, fast reproducing fish that are aggressive eaters and will eat almost anything in copious amounts. They eat so much that they will actual become obese and contract liver diseases. They have no know predators, besides humans. Because they have no predators, once introduced to a reef, they can wipe out 90% of it. "The lionfish invasion is probably the worst environmental disaster the Atlantic will ever face" said Graham Maddocks, president and founder of Ocean Support Foundation ("Lionfish" Par. 3). Lionfish are especially dangerous to ecosystems, because the native aquatic life–forms do not have a natural instinct to be wary of the lionfish. Some may wonder, "how did the lionfish become introduced to the Atlantic ocean?". Well, Florida pet owners are to blame. Lionfish are most known for their beauty, which makes them valuable as pets. However, they are violent fish and tend to attack and kill other fish in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Speech On Wildlife Conservation 1.Introduction :– "The morality of a Nation is judged by the way its people treat their Animals".............Mahatma Gandhi. Nature has created several ecosystems and millions of animal and plant species including micro–organisms within each ecosystem on mother earth and every life form has specific roles to play for auto–run of the ecosystem. All life forms are interdependent either to render services to one another or become food for the animals through a food chain or food web. If one species gets eliminated due to some reason or other, the food chain breaks consequently affecting the ecosystem automation process. Man is one of the species among millions of species...show more content... The conservation ethic was imbibed in the sylvan surroundings of the ashrams of sages which were the seats of learning in the country's ancient past. Indian wildlife sanctuaries are home to diverse species of birds, mammals and other animals. In India there are around 531 wildlife sanctuaries. Among these wildlife sanctuaries, Project Tiger in India governs 28 Tiger Reserves and they hold special significance in the preservation of tiger. Interestingly, some of the wildlife sanctuaries are specifically named as Bird Sanctuary, such as Keoladeo Ghana National Park before they attained the status of National Park. Several National Parks of the country were formerly wildlife sanctuaries. Wildlife sanctuaries in India cover near about 4.5 percent of the country's total geographical area. These sanctuaries are scattered throughout the country and they with their amazing rock formation, diverse flora and fauna and beautiful landscapes attract the attention of the tourists from far and wide. National Parks in India are IUCN category II protected areas. As of July 2015 there were 105 National Parks encompassing an area of 40,500 sq km comprising 1.23% of India's total surface area. Wildlife sanctuaries are established by IUCN category II protected areas. India has 531 animal sanctuaries referred as wildlife sanctuary. • 18. Introduction This research paper is going to be based on a few focal points. The first topic this essay is going to cover is how local communities can be aided by government efforts to conserve biodiversity. The second half will consist of examples showing how species can be both positively and negatively affected by conservation efforts. Local v. Government The biology aspect of this paper is ecology. So, how is wildlife conservation related to ecology? Since the suffix "–ology" means "the study of" and "eco" is short for ecosystems or environments, ecology is the study of environments and how the living organisms interact within these habitats. The word "wildlife" was used to refer to animal species that are undomesticated, but was revised and currently includes a larger variety of organisms. These organisms were not introduced by humans and include species like animals, fungi, and plants. Both wildlife and ecology are used to describe organisms and where their habitats are located. If someone wanted to directly compare ecology and wildlife, they could almost say that ecology is the study of wildlife because wildlife includes biotic (living) factors that are located in an ecosystem. Another example of how the two are related is that they are both constantly changing. Both wildlife and ecology can be affected by multiple influences. These factors could be natural, like natural disturbances or an introduction of a new species. They could also be impacted by man–made Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Hunting not only provides people with healthy organic meat, it is also instrumental in the management and preservation of wildlife not only through the hunting itself, but also by the money generated by hunters that is used for this purpose. Hunting has existed since the dawn of time and continues to play a key role in providing people with the food they need to survive. Hunting plays many important roles in our world and has been a very effective tool for wildlife management and hopefully will continue to be. Hunting plays a vital role in the conservation of wildlife. Many anti–hunters will say it "damages the environment" and that, "it does not help wildlife at all". In reality, without hunting wildlife and the environment would both suffer greatly. This can be clearly seen in the elk population in North America. In 1907 only 41,000 elk remained in North America. Thanks to the money and work invested by hunters to restore and conserve their habitat, over 1 million elk now inhabit North American today. (Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, web) This is proof that what hunters are actually doing is giving the wildlife they pursue more habitat to allow their populations to be more stable. Another way that hunting helps with conservation, is that it generates great deal of income in which a large majority of goes towards land management for the animals. Certain hunts are auctioned off for thousands of dollars, almost all of this money goes towards the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
