Delivering cost
savings using Virtual
Desktops
Local authorities look to Thintech to deliver
cost savings with virtual desktops
transforming ways of working and improving
customer service:
Budget constraints on IT spend in local authority
means that IT departments are often under staffed
and over worked and tend to be more reactive as a
department and spend a large proportion of their
time firefighting issues rather than strategising
new ideas. Increased demand on IT departments
with compliance issue, like PSN connectivity also
tend to mean that projects get delayed.
Often we find that the IT department are also
dealing with an aged IT infrastructure which limits
what they can do as a department and they are
often seen as barriers to embracing new ways of
working which often results in frustrated users and
an unhappy IT Team. The pressure on the IT
department is huge and most want to do
something about it.
This is where a Desktop Transformation project
can help. Virtual desktops solutions enables
remote and mobile access, real estate
rationalisation, significant cost savings and greater
data security with a ready-made PSN compliant
solution.
Thintech are specialist virtual desktop consultants
and consider ourselves to be experts having
delivered over 100,000 desktops since 2006. We
are always looking for ways to innovate and have
developed a number of tools and techniques over
the years to achieve unheard of consolidation
ratios and an implementation methodology that
ensures high quality to any virtual desktop project.

being that backbone to our solution. Our mission is
simple, our very existence is ensuring the
successful delivery of your project. We work for
you, not the vendors and we have a 100%
customer retention ratio, were we see ourselves
as being an extension to your staff.
“We embarked on this phase of the change to
achieve a big target: reduce energy consumption
for both cost and carbon footprint reasons. There
are around 3,000 people who need to use PC and
other IT equipment as part of their job. Between
them, they have a wide variety of kit of varying age
and not all mutually compatible. They need to be
given the right tools fit for the purpose of meeting
their needs. If someone has had a laptop which has
reached the end of its useful life, and the person
using it never leaves their desk, we would ask why
they needed a laptop. What we have also
determined is that we will have a ratio of 10 desks
to 7 people while providing a more flexible way of
working with the right tools for everyone. This will
support our Agile Working programme and will
support a reduction in our property portfolio, i.e.
the amount of roofs and floor space needed to
house a set number of workers. For instance, it’s
absurd that social workers have hitherto had to
return to the office every time they needed to write
up a case or just add a few notes. Now, we will
provide them with tools to do this regardless of
where they are working from.”

“This represents a new way of working citizens’
services over three councils and so far it’s working.
There are times when you need someone quickly
and especially important that they see things from
my point of view. Thintech have been particularly
good at this.”

"Since implementing Citrix solutions through
Thintech, we've been able to ensure that our staff
have access to the information they need wherever
they are, whatever the device they use. We have
also achieved significant efficiency savings through
the initiative by consolidating office resources,
meaning we now need fewer office buildings
available for our staff to hot desk from. By
consolidating our sites, not only have we saved
money on office space, we've also been able to
reduce the management overheads associated
with running the PC estate. The flexibility this
technology provides truly allows Merton to become
a forward-looking local authority at the forefront
of innovation."
