WHAT ARE THE
BENEFITS OF
SOCIAL MEDIA?
WHAT IS
SOCIAL MEDIA?
Social media can be
defined as the
use of online media
(personal websites, blogs,
networking sites, videos,
etc.) that enable people
to interact and have a
dialogue with other users.
It is a CONVERSATION that is taking place ONLINE.
There are more than 200popular
social networking websites available online.
16 of these have more than 100 million active users per site!
As of May, 56% of Americans (that is over 156 million
people) have a profile on a social networking site
and are sharing their lives with other users.
18 – 29 year olds: 83%
30 – 49 year olds: 77%
50 – 64 year olds: 52%
65 years old or more: 32%
And it’s
not just for
teenagers
either!!!! }
22% of Americans (that is over 68 million people)
use social networking MULTIPLE times per day!
WHY WOULD SOMEONE
USE SOCIAL MEDIA?
So they can share…
Family
photos!
Funny
videos…
Ask
questions
Share funny
stories…
Share a good
experience…
Or complain about
a bad one…
MHP participates actively on the
following social networking
websites…
WHY WOULD
MAJOR HEALTH PARTNERS
CARE ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA?
Users (aka our patients and their families) are
already posting their thoughts,
experiences, complaints and stories
about MHP and sharing them instantly
with thousands of other people!

Is advertising
expensive?
No!
Instead of paying for
advertising that we can not
track (newspaper, posters),
we pay for advertising that
allows us to target and
track.
Example =
Newspaper ad (one time) $650
Facebook ad (per click) $2.50
A report would tell us that 150 people
have clicked on our ad and 1,500 people
viewed it. The total cost for the ad would
be $375.
25,370
Users (fans and non-fans) were
exposed in the past month
489
Users were engaged with us…
This means 489 unique people
liked, commented, shared or
clicked on a post.
7,514
clicks on our posts, page,
events or photos
5,932
Users (fans and non-fans) were
from Shelbyville
Our social media
goal…is not to
control the
conversation
it is to…
enable
influence
inspire
educate
People don’t care about our ads.
They care about what their friends THINK.
Social media allows MHP to be involved
in the conversation.
It is no longer a monologue – it can
become a dialogue.
Social media is a fundamental
shift in the way we
communicate.
Online conversations
are going to happen
with or with out us.
In order to reach outstanding customer service,
we must know what people are saying about
Major Health Partners.
