What Is Single-camera Production

Is a type of method used for video and film production meaning its been
filmed with the use of only one camera. Each of the various shots and
camera angles are shot using the same camera which is moved and
reset throughout the production.
Differences & Similarities

• In contrast to multi-camera setup consists of multiple-cameras that are arranged in
different angles that capture all the different types (various angles) of the same
    shots simultaneously
• Multi-Camera setup techniques is used generally more frequently for live
performances as it may be recorded from multiple perspectives
• In contrast to multiple camera shooting, single-camera shooting is more reserved
for directors and producers that favor single camera techniques for prime–time
dramas, reality shows documentaries, sports and feature films.
Virgin Media Shorts
Broken

• Duration - 01:30
• Format – One Camera Single Drama (Romance, Non Linear)
• Narrative Structure – The concept of the short drama “Broken” is about two individuals that seem to be
stuck in a rough patch in their relationship, the story has no dialogue but through their body language and
through the camera techniques used were able to understand the emotions that run through the story.
The strong expressions and tears that flow from the individual’s faces in the close up shots that allows us
to create our own atmosphere. As the director pulls away the absence of sound from the drama he gives
the audience the task of interpreting the scene in their own way, without the dialogue of the drama
the audience is forced to swap positions with the characters allowing them to fully understand the
    concept of the drama.
• Technical Elements – Throughout the drama they use a mixture of diagetic and non-diagetic
sounds to fill the room with emotions, as there is no dialogue used. They use a variety of camera
techniques such as cross-cutting and cutaway shots that help put the scene together and with the
use of flashbacks and the film term ‘match on action’ helps us the audience piece the puzzle
together. They use a range of medium and close up shots to capture the emotions they’re trying to
portray as the director was trying to capture the raw emotion that ran through the scene.

playing a game of poker but later on becomes a matter of life and death were they fight to the death, the
concept of this story is a fight for love, a fight for the heart of the queen meaning Only one can survive and
be victorious, a fight against good and evil who will thrive in victory and who will fall to the depths of hell.
• Technical Elements – they use a vary of diagetic and non-diagetic sounds to initiate the change of pace of
the story line, as it starts of slow but then slowly begins to build up to the run up of the climax (Ending) of
the final battle. Throughout the battle of the two men fighting the camera is close up as it’s a single
camera drama there’s only one viewpoint of entry and for the director to capture the intense features he’ll
have to choose his angles perfectly as its only one take.

fearless and fiercest soldiers. United they become the World Soldiers
• Technical Elements – As it’s an animation the use of non – diagetic sounds plays a key part in the story. The
use of background music to fits the atmosphere of the scene perfectly and the change in pace of the story
line allowing views too not only visualise it but the music helps the viewer feel apart of it. Throughout the
animation the camera stays in the central part of the screen as the animation relates to a comic book strip,
