JamesHardie fiber cement is made from natural refined raw materials - we invented the basis of the product as it is today – cellulose fiber based (plus cement and sand as the other major constituents). We operate a dedicated R&D facility focused on fiber cement technologyEnabled us to invent fiber cementIntroduced initially to southern and west coast marketsWe have continued to develop new products and technology ever since then (trim, shingle etc)Climates in the north demanded specific consideration and technologyColorPlus an important technology for Northern markets
We are the largest siding manufacturer in North America – 3.4B square feet of capacity to service the marketwith 10 manufacturing facilities and 3 reload facilities throughout the US. #1ROI for 6 years on projects > $2000 Brand Promise: Low Maintenance, Durability, Design.
Our products are made from refined natural ingredients - cement, sand, cellulose fiber and water we add a small amount of proprietary ingredients our superior manufacturing process with these raw material deliver James Hardie’s unrivaled durability.ONLY in response to inquiries about fly ash.We do not use fly ash. Some other FC manufacturers do. Fly ash is a low cost filler that can be used in cementitious productsAs a result of our R&D and testing we have chosen not to use it - we believe Flyash negatively impacts the brittleness, dimensional stability, and durability of fiber cement. Our products contain silica, but James Hardie has designed our best practice cutting requirements to reduce health risks to the users. Please refer to our Best Practices, MSDS and for further questions ask an install specialist.
Our investments in Research and Development have enabled use to make generational step changes to our technologies. These have in turn enabled us to broaden our product lines to further increase the value that we provide to our customers around desgn, durability and low maintenance.By comparison other Fiber cement companies are at generation 2.
While since generations 3 and 4 we have been introducing substrate and surface adhesion enhancements in Generation 7 we communicated to the market that our formulation is Engineered for Climate. We launched HardieZone.Based on climate studies and product performance, our fundamental rationale is that regions as different as Minneapolis and Houston have harsh climates for unique reasons and require unique products.
HardieZone resulted in us splitting our product lines by geography. HZ5 for the north/mountain areas and Canada, HZ10 for the south and west coast. The HZ5 Products are Engineered specifically for freezing wet climates, while HZ10 is engineered for the hot, humid and wet climates of the south and west coast. Clearly communicating this to the market is important to articulate our R&D investment and it’s value to our customers. For the HZ5 product moisture resistance and strength are enhanced with scientifically proven raw materials and process controlsWe made physical changes to HardiePlank product line (5.25-8.25) to enhance the performance and differentiate it
Our testing capability is extensive - 2 centers sydney, southern californiaWe rigorously test the products both individually and installed as they would be in the field. We also expose the product in the field in real-life conditionsWhile our testing and development capability is primarily for our products, because we are the leading siding manufacturer we also benchmark ourselves against our peers in the industry through similar rigorous tests
All our products are developed to deliver our a low maintenance finish. For the ultimate low maintenance finish, color plus technology takes away the variables you cannot control – more detail on this to come.
