ā¢ MATERIAL:
glass and steel and a cast
concrete stone
ā¢ CONCEPT:
A light box that absorbs,
reflects, and filters light across the faƧade
and throughout the building
7. ā¢ Light that is captured by the glass faƧade gets filtered through a
light plenum that catches and distributes the light through the
gallery spaces
ā¢ Walls and floor are made of polished concrete
ā¢ Ceiling that filters the light from the plenum is made of frosted
glass
ā¢ Basic materials of the interior give the gallery spaces a stark, cold
feeling that works to accommodate the art working in the space
ā¢ FaƧade consists of 912 finely etched equally sized glass panels
weighing some 250 kg each, secured by clips to a steel
framework

ā¦ the original chapel was badly damaged during the war and
replaced by a modern chapel
ā¦ shares its site with the ruins of the Gothic church and the
1950s chapel
ā¦ design rises from the ruins church, respecting the siteās
history and preserving its essence
ā¦ combines contemporary architecture with the remains of
the old medieval constructions
ā¦ light gray brick walls and clay plaster, flooring made of
Jura limestone, terrazzo, and mortar, ceilings made of a
poured mortar shell
9. ā¦ linear in elevation with perforated brickwork facades, handcrafted in
light-gray bricks
ā¦ brick work allows diffused light to fill specific spaces of the museum
ā¦ filter walls create air and light permeable membranes
ā¦ composed of paintings, sculptures, drawings, dresses, precious objects
and jewels, manuscripts, decorative arts
galleries for both ancient and modern art,
temporary exhibition rooms, a library, remains
of the original medieval buildings, places of
worship, an open-air courtyard and garden in
the middle of the building
