Animal Testing Speech Outline
Animal Testing
Introduction
Attention–getter: Visualize yourself somewhere locked and isolated, whether it is a closet, a cage,
or a box. Now visualize yourself being constantly controlled, not being able to choose when to eat,
when to drink, or even when to sleep.
Thesis: Animal testing is a heavy topic that usually goes unnoticed. To many scientists, animal testing
is beneficial and to society it is morally wrong.
Credibility: After doing our extensive research, we are knowledgeable about animal testing.
Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to discuss multiple perspectives on animal testing.
Invitation: We invite you all to think about the different perspectives and to discuss your thoughts
and views on this issue.

believe that medical testing on animals is "morally acceptable" (faunalytics.org)
All drugs have dangers due to certain chemicals and substances. Because of animal testing,
researchers have found another alternative to testing on humans.
Animal testing allows for scientists and researchers to determine the safety and quality of medicinal
treatment before humans take it.
This means that humans aren't being harmed and more lives are being saved.
Modern surgical techniques were also perfected on animals that helped save many lives today such
as hip replacement surgery, kidney transplants, heart transplants, and blood transfusions.
Transition: Although testing on animals is beneficial to us humans, some animals being tested on,
go through a large amount of agony and not many realize that.
"Every year in the U.S., over 25 million animals are used in biomedical experimentation, product and
cosmetic testing, and science education..." (neavs.org)
All those animals are either held in captivity or euthanized. According to Humane Society
International, most animals used in testing are usually deprived of water, force fed, and physically
restrained for long periods of time while they are being tested.
Through the infliction of burns, wounds, and side effects, researchers examine the animal to study
the healing process, and the infliction of pain to determine its effects and remedies.
An example of one of the treatments used by cosmetic companies is

Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience to boycott products that animal test and to
persuade them to support PETA's animal cruelty free campaign.
Thesis Statement: My audience should boycott products that animal test because (1) animal testing is
ineffective, cruel and inhumane; (2) the solution will help stop unnecessary animal testing cruelty;
(3) there are benefits of enacting my solution.

(Statement of problem) Animal testing is ineffective, cruel, and inhumane.
A. First, I will explain why animal testing is ineffective.
1. The differences between animals and humans leads to incorrect information and test results during
trials.
a. Humans react differently to drugs and cosmetics than animals would.
b. Animals are tested on in trials based on the assumption that animals are accurate stand–ins for data
collected.
2. Even subtle differences in genetic code can affect the conclusions that are drawn during trials
(Failure of the Animal Model).
a. Humans react differently to disease, recovery time, and response to certain treatments.
b. Even with similar genetic material, it can be expressed differently in humans and animals.
According to a recent study done by NAV, humans and mice coped with burns and sepsis very
differently and even used different sets of genes to cope.
3. Even monkeys, who are very similar to humans, reacted differently and helped scientists draw the
wrong conclusions about effects on humans (Failure of the Animal Model).
a. During a NAV study, monkeys reacted differently to a therapeutic antibody than humans and
scientists missed the fatal immune response that could potentially

Synthesis Essay On Animal Testing
To support or not support animal testing practices has been a long debated topic. Animals have been
used in medical and cosmetic tests since the 1900s leading to numerous medical treatment
breakthroughs and ensuring the safety of everyday products we use. Recently animal advocate
groups have called for the abolishment of animal testing, causing a divide on whether or not to
continue animal testing. In order to keep innovating new solutions for diseases that plague our
communities and loved ones, allowing the use of animal testing to end preventable tragedies must
occur.
Everyday cosmetic products that many people use, such as lipsticks, shampoo, face wash, etcetera,
are verified to be safe using animal testing. Chemical burns and other short term ailments are very
serious concerns that plague Americans and the knowledge that the products they use will not harm
them and their families is possible because of animal testing. Also long term effects, such as
cancer, have been discovered through animal product testing and promptly stopped saving
countless lives. "NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS YOU'RE THE GUINEA PIG" (Source C). Living

Although the alternative would be using humans or dead human tissue as the test subjects, the critics
believe that this is a better solution. Many large scale companies would not sacrifice the
substantial amount of revenue it would cost to pay test subjects fair wages or compensate them for
a test gone wrong. Companies would take advantage of poor low class citizens or illegal aliens to
perform tests paying them low wages and not compensating for injuries sustained in tests performed.
Also some companies might disregard safety testing completely jeopardizing the safety of families
everywhere or even costing lives. The value of a human life is exponentially more than an

Argumentative Essay On Animal Testing
Each year millions of animals are killed due to animal testing. Also, many more are used each year
in animal testing and make it out alive but, some may not make it do to how far they go on the
experiments that they are conducting. Animals are used to test many different products and one of
those major products is cosmetics. They also are used to test medications and certain sicknesses to
see what effects will happen to humans. Many people are for this and there are many who are
completely against it. Also, people are starting to look into animal testing because of the cruelty that
animals are being put through (Ferdowsian and Beck). More and more people want to end animal
testing and put a stop to it. Many years ago animal testing was also starting to make people wonder
if it was the correct thing to do. Some scientists were also starting to think the same as the others
and wanted to stop it. At one point they had a meeting with many scientists about how animal
testing keeps rising and how they are going to slow it down and possibly stop it (Ferdowsian and
Beck). Animal testing is harmful to animals and should be used only on certain medications because
there are new alternatives.
First off, there are many animals out there that are used for animal testing but, now day's scientists
mainly use rats/ mice, guinea pigs and monkeys because they are closely related to humans. Now,
back in the sixteenth century they used dogs as their main testing subjects. There main project

Animal Testing Persuasive Essay
Throughout history, animal experimentation has played an important role in leading to new
discoveries and human benefits. However, what many people tend to forget are the millions of
animals that are tortured or killed during the process of these painful, deadly experiments. Many
people seem to misunderstand animal nature and the laboratory procedures and techniques that are
executed on the animals. The procedures are cruel, unreliable, and harmful. Luckily there are more
humane alternatives that have also proved to be less expensive.
I assume many of you have pets including cats, dogs, rabbits, and mice. Imagine yourself as your
pet, but instead of living in a warm home with a caring family, you live locked up in a small metal
cage,...show more content...
Some might even consider it abuse. It is something that goes unnoticed every day because of the
benefits that humans gain from it. Animal testing is overshadowed by advancements in the medical
field. However, no product or medicine makes it acceptable.
Just because humans are considered a more powerful species, doesn't give us the right to treat
animals as if they are nothing. Would you want to be treated that way by a more dominant species
just for their benefit? It is clearly unfair. If you pull your cat's tail, it yells because it hurts. Animals
experience pain. They go through the same pain that we would if we were subjected to painful,
deadly experiments. Whether it's a dog, cat, rabbit, mouse, chimpanzee, or human, pain is something
we all feel.
However, when you compare the anatomy of a cat to that of a human, you can find numerous
differences, making animal testing unreliable and sometimes even dangerous. Some might say that
animal testing is crucial to scientific research but how can something be so crucial if the results are
not even completely accurate?
Luckily, there are alternatives for animal testing including computer models, cell structures, and
human testing. Although some may argue that computer models and cell structures are unreliable,
so is animal testing. You are given the choice between two unreliable methods, except in one, you are
not killing an innocent creature. Human testing is also a more just method. If the results are

According to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service performed by the United States
Department of Agriculture, there are an estimated 26 million animals that are used for commercial
and scientific testing annually in the United States (Annual). How do research facilities and
laboratories obtain test subjects? They are mostly supplied by specialist dealers whom breed animals
for the sole purpose of selling them as test subjects. Dealers also obtain animals through pounds,
shelters, misleading advertisements, and through other means (Miller–Spiegel). Animal testing and
research should cease because animals are subjected to cruel inhumane procedures by researchers,
viable alternatives exist for animals testing, and results obtained through animal testing are mostly
flawed and unreliable.
Animals that are used for research and experimentation are often subjected to painful and cruel
procedures which is why testing on animals should be ceased because the extreme harm animals
endure do not justify the end results. According to Humane Society International, animals used in
experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, as well as food and water
deprivation. Animals are also physically restrained for prolonged periods of time, inflicted with
painful wounds to study the effects and remedies associated with the infliction of pain. Some
examples of the painful procedures animals endure include executions

You know those medicines that you can get at the Drug Store? Don't you think that is the greatest
medicine for headaches or allergy relief? Well, it was most likely tested on an animal and it could
have killed them. Over 100 million animals are injured in a wide variety of ways in the U.S. alone .
Some animals spend their entire lives in captivity constantly getting tortured or abused. Also, it has
been proven that only 50% of the time animal testing also works on humans, so while we tested on
animals and it worked for animals, you might as well flip a coin as to whether it will benefit people.
One reason animal testing should be banned is that animals in the testing environment feel scared
and afraid. Also in those labs after animals have suffered through the process of being tested on
they are then dumped back into a cage without any painkillers to ease the extreme pain that they
are facing. Have you ever broken a bone or burned yourself on something and it has hurt
extremely? Imagine that going through your entire body and the people that have done that to you
don't even give you something to help ease it. Well, this happens on a daily basis to those animals
and in all honesty,it probably goes on for the rest of their life....show more content...
But those animals will never be the same as they were before. They may have trust issues against
people, or they may hide in dark corners because they are still terrified that the people who are
now caring for them will still harm them. Now you may be thinking " well they are just animals "
but they have feelings too. If the government were to take you away and lock you in a cage with
as much food as you need to not starve to death. You would be miserable but on top of that they are
also testing on you with things that could do a variety such as burns, sickness/disease, and in some

The vaccine was produced for mass consumption in 1963 and is still in use today. It had virtually
eradicated polio in the USA by 1965. It has been estimated that 100,000 rhesus monkeys were
killed in the course of developing the polio vaccines, and 65 doses of vaccine were produced
from each monkey. In 1992, Sabin said, "Without the use of animals and human beings, it would
have been impossible to acquire the important knowledge needed to prevent much suffering and
premature death not only among humans but animals as well."The most recent use of primates
in Nobel Prize winning research occurred in 1981; Roger W. Sperry, David H. Hubel and Torsten
N. Wiesel were awarded the coveted award for their work exploring brain function. By studying
monkeys, Roger W. Sperry found that the nerves connecting the left and right hemispheres of the
brain could be severed without causing any drastic changes in the monkeys; each side of the brain
was still able to learn, however, what was learned by one side could no longer be retrieved by the
other. For the United States, use of animals in research, particularly when it came to

Animals are also tested with "Repeated force feeding tactics" (11 Facts about....). Repeated force
feeding involves forcing animals to eat certain substances over and over just for observation.
What is the point in this? Another experiment performed on animals is killing pregnant animals
and examining and experimenting on the fetuses. Killing a mother and killing a baby that hasn't
even been born yet is wrong and it should be stopped. Killing an animal for no reason is cruel.
That's a life you are taking away. Just imagine if it was you. Animals should only be killed for
food, not to be used for testing. Animals can be burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused as a result
of testing. And the list could go on forever. The way animals are being mistreated and tested on
should be against the law. There is a different ways to do research other than killing and abusing
animals. There are many alternate test that scientist can use to do there research without harming
animals. Alternative test are defined as test that use the three "R's", a test that replaces a procedure

The Effects Of Animal Testing Essay
The Effects of Animal Testing
Animal testing is by far, inhumane and downright unacceptable. Although, there are various types of
organizations that are pro–animal care, such as, Animal Welfare information center, U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services, Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare and,People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animalsor, PETA, all in which do their best to keepanimal testing as humane as
possible, there are alternatives for finding cures or testing the safety of certain products. Animal
cruelty is detrimental to numerous species enduring studies in labs; the importance of companies
noticing this tragedy could save millions of animal lives, all while having the same outcomes and
benefits for humans or more desirable results.
Animal testing is animal cruelty. The animals or "guinea pigs" per say, used in these experiments are
being held captive, obviously against their own will since they cannot speak, and are under extreme
stress. In spite of the fact that, animals cannot voice their discomforts, they do so by refusing to eat
or remaining still as opposed to engaging in normal activity (Schreiner). Particular tests performed
lead to genetic mutation and sometimes forced pregnancies. In the online article, "Effects of Animal
Testing," Schreiner states that, "Genetic mutations are induced to test the validity of a scientific
principle or the effect of the manipulation of one or more of the animals' genes." Thus, leading to
ineffective interactions

Envision a life without value or care. That is how animals being tested on feel. Animal testing is
unethical and corrupt. Human species are not more deserving than other species. An alternative route
should be taken for testing pharmaceutical or cosmetic products.
Imagine having no rights, being treated crudely everyday, and constantly being in pain. That is
how animals that live their lives in labs feel every single day. Many animals die from being tested
on, "Animals killed each year worldwide for experiments and drug research range from 50 to 100
million." (Source A). There are organizations like PETA (People or the Ethical Treatment of
Animals) that are trying to stop speciesism and get natural rights for animals. Speciesism is "the
habit of attributing greater moral significance to the well–being of animals." (Source C). Animals
have the ability to think and feel just as humans do. This only makes it right for animals to possess
rights like humans. Humans should not hold themselves higher than any other species, "humans are
inherently no better than or different from other animals, and should have no right to hold our own
interests above the interests of other species."...show more content...
There are major effects that take part on this animal because of the products being tested on them. In
a picture titled "Because I'm Worth It," it shows a bunny trapped, thinking to itself, "Let's see
now...I've been blinded...I've been in excruciating pain for months, and any day now they're gonna
give me a lethal injection." (Source F) Others might argue that this type of testing is necessary like,
"Many of the cures we celebrate –– and let's remember that cancer is now more survivable than ever
–– were developed only because researchers were able to carry out experiments on animals."
(Source B) However, there can be alternatives, that do not include the harming or killing of millions

Animal Testing
Do you know what animal testing is?
Animal testing is where an animal test is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is
forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm.
Animal experiments are not the same as taking your companion animal to the vet. Animals used in
testing labs are purposely harmed, not for their own good, and are usually killed at the end of the
experiment.
The different forms of animal testing:
Animal testing is carried out in a wide range of areas, including biological research, and testing

Why do companies continue to test on animals?
Companies test on animals to provide data that they can use to protect themselves when they are
sued by injured consumers even though some courts have ruled that the FDA has failed to show that
the results of animal tests can be deduced to humans. The unreliability of animal tests allows
companies to put virtually any product on the market. If cosmetics or household products blind or
poison animals during tests, they are often sold anyway. Companies use the fact that the products
have been tested rather than the actual test results–to support the claim that they are conscientious.
In most cases, companies settle out of court, preferring to pay off the injured consumer rather than
bring the unreliability of their testing practices to light. In some cases, courts have ruled in favor of
the injured consumers. In the end, animal tests protect no

Animals can be ferocious and wild, but they can also be gentle and tame. Some are our pets, and
some are powerful forces that are to be respected and admired. It is as easy to appreciate a loyal
dog as it is to be in awe of a lion in its' natural habitat. But the truth that many people either don't
know or don't appreciate is that animals are essential to human existence and have played a vital
role in improving the quality of our lives. They have been providing us with answers to our most
complex medical questions for decades. Their role in finding cures for diseases, treatments for

Many of the cosmetics that we use every day have also been tested on animals. The number of
animals used for cosmetic testing has been greatly reduced as the potential hazards have been
eliminated. Products such as sunscreens, anti–dandruff shampoos, fluoride toothpaste, and anti–acne
creams could not have been proven safe without the use of animal testing since they contain
ingredients that cause a chemical change in the body that could be harmful, even deadly. Without
these safety tests, it would be impossible to ensure that these products are safe.
You may think of animal testing and picture a wet bunny all beat up and shivering in a cold barren
cage. However, this is not the case, for the law requires that the lab animals are housed in an
environment appropriate for their species and are well cared for (Institute for Laboratory Animal
Research, 2011). Animals tested on in a laboratory can actually adapt with minimal stress and are
provided with everything they need by highly trained professionals. Animal care standards in a
testing facility are, more often than not, better than those at shelters, pet stores, even farms.
However, I do not wish to neglect the test animals' discomfort, for

Thesis: The debate on whether using animals is the correct choice of method for testing out
experiments and products, is still up for discussion, considering that animals have helped us in
finding many treatments and cures in the past. Today, with new technology, we no longer need the
use of animals, as there are now alternatives to this practice. Companies and labs that originally
started out using animals as test subjects are starting to switch over to new alternatives, as they are
more accurate compared to the old methods that was used in the past.
Throughout time, using animals as test subjects has been beneficial in finding numerous cures and
treatments for patients with diseases and other health complications. According to the California

Animal Testing Essay Thesis

  • 1. Animal Testing Speech Outline Animal Testing Introduction Attention–getter: Visualize yourself somewhere locked and isolated, whether it is a closet, a cage, or a box. Now visualize yourself being constantly controlled, not being able to choose when to eat, when to drink, or even when to sleep. Thesis: Animal testing is a heavy topic that usually goes unnoticed. To many scientists, animal testing is beneficial and to society it is morally wrong. Credibility: After doing our extensive research, we are knowledgeable about animal testing. Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to discuss multiple perspectives on animal testing. Invitation: We invite you all to think about the different perspectives and to discuss your thoughts and views on this issue. Preview main...show more content... believe that medical testing on animals is "morally acceptable" (faunalytics.org) All drugs have dangers due to certain chemicals and substances. Because of animal testing, researchers have found another alternative to testing on humans. Animal testing allows for scientists and researchers to determine the safety and quality of medicinal treatment before humans take it. This means that humans aren't being harmed and more lives are being saved. Modern surgical techniques were also perfected on animals that helped save many lives today such as hip replacement surgery, kidney transplants, heart transplants, and blood transfusions. Transition: Although testing on animals is beneficial to us humans, some animals being tested on, go through a large amount of agony and not many realize that. "Every year in the U.S., over 25 million animals are used in biomedical experimentation, product and cosmetic testing, and science education..." (neavs.org) All those animals are either held in captivity or euthanized. According to Humane Society International, most animals used in testing are usually deprived of water, force fed, and physically restrained for long periods of time while they are being tested. Through the infliction of burns, wounds, and side effects, researchers examine the animal to study the healing process, and the infliction of pain to determine its effects and remedies. Outline For Animal Testing Essay Topic: Animal Testing Purpose: To persuade Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience to boycott products that animal test and to persuade them to support PETA's animal cruelty free campaign. Thesis Statement: My audience should boycott products that animal test because (1) animal testing is ineffective, cruel and inhumane; (2) the solution will help stop unnecessary animal testing cruelty; (3) there are benefits of enacting my solution. Attention Step: I. (Attention Getter) Jeremy Bentham said, "The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but "Can they suffer?" A. Can animals suffer? The answer is yes. B. Every year, over 100 million animals are killed in the United States for animal testing and scientific research...show more content... (Statement of problem) Animal testing is ineffective, cruel, and inhumane. A. First, I will explain why animal testing is ineffective. 1. The differences between animals and humans leads to incorrect information and test results during trials. a. Humans react differently to drugs and cosmetics than animals would. b. Animals are tested on in trials based on the assumption that animals are accurate stand–ins for data collected. 2. Even subtle differences in genetic code can affect the conclusions that are drawn during trials (Failure of the Animal Model). a. Humans react differently to disease, recovery time, and response to certain treatments. b. Even with similar genetic material, it can be expressed differently in humans and animals. According to a recent study done by NAV, humans and mice coped with burns and sepsis very differently and even used different sets of genes to cope. 3. Even monkeys, who are very similar to humans, reacted differently and helped scientists draw the wrong conclusions about effects on humans (Failure of the Animal Model). a. During a NAV study, monkeys reacted differently to a therapeutic antibody than humans and scientists missed the fatal immune response that could potentially Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Animal Testing: Annotated Bibliography Jennifer Hernandez Prof. Richardson English 112 24 September 2016 Annotated Bibliography: Animal Testing This is an annotated bibliography of animal testing and research to see if it's morally justified. There are many opinions on the results and the entire process that it takes to test or experiment a cosmetic product or a medicine on an animal. There are many alternatives and benefits to animal testing but is it really justified? Or could animals be in potential danger. Hajar, Rachel. "Alternative to Animal Testing." • 4. Synthesis Essay On Animal Testing To support or not support animal testing practices has been a long debated topic. Animals have been used in medical and cosmetic tests since the 1900s leading to numerous medical treatment breakthroughs and ensuring the safety of everyday products we use. Recently animal advocate groups have called for the abolishment of animal testing, causing a divide on whether or not to continue animal testing. In order to keep innovating new solutions for diseases that plague our communities and loved ones, allowing the use of animal testing to end preventable tragedies must occur. Everyday cosmetic products that many people use, such as lipsticks, shampoo, face wash, etcetera, are verified to be safe using animal testing. Chemical burns and other short term ailments are very serious concerns that plague Americans and the knowledge that the products they use will not harm them and their families is possible because of animal testing. Also long term effects, such as cancer, have been discovered through animal product testing and promptly stopped saving countless lives. "NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS YOU'RE THE GUINEA PIG" (Source C). Although the alternative would be using humans or dead human tissue as the test subjects, the critics believe that this is a better solution. Many large scale companies would not sacrifice the substantial amount of revenue it would cost to pay test subjects fair wages or compensate them for a test gone wrong. Companies would take advantage of poor low class citizens or illegal aliens to perform tests paying them low wages and not compensating for injuries sustained in tests performed. Also some companies might disregard safety testing completely jeopardizing the safety of families everywhere or even costing lives. • 5. Argumentative Essay On Animal Testing Each year millions of animals are killed due to animal testing. Also, many more are used each year in animal testing and make it out alive but, some may not make it do to how far they go on the experiments that they are conducting. Animals are used to test many different products and one of those major products is cosmetics. They also are used to test medications and certain sicknesses to see what effects will happen to humans. Many people are for this and there are many who are completely against it. Also, people are starting to look into animal testing because of the cruelty that animals are being put through (Ferdowsian and Beck). More and more people want to end animal testing and put a stop to it. Many years ago animal testing was also starting to make people wonder if it was the correct thing to do. Some scientists were also starting to think the same as the others and wanted to stop it. At one point they had a meeting with many scientists about how animal testing keeps rising and how they are going to slow it down and possibly stop it (Ferdowsian and Beck). Animal testing is harmful to animals and should be used only on certain medications because there are new alternatives. First off, there are many animals out there that are used for animal testing but, now day's scientists mainly use rats/ mice, guinea pigs and monkeys because they are closely related to humans. Now, back in the sixteenth century they used dogs as their main testing subjects. There main project Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Animal Testing Persuasive Essay Throughout history, animal experimentation has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and human benefits. However, what many people tend to forget are the millions of animals that are tortured or killed during the process of these painful, deadly experiments. Many people seem to misunderstand animal nature and the laboratory procedures and techniques that are executed on the animals. The procedures are cruel, unreliable, and harmful. Luckily there are more humane alternatives that have also proved to be less expensive. I assume many of you have pets including cats, dogs, rabbits, and mice. Imagine yourself as your pet, but instead of living in a warm home with a caring family, you live locked up in a small metal cage,...show more content... Some might even consider it abuse. It is something that goes unnoticed every day because of the benefits that humans gain from it. Animal testing is overshadowed by advancements in the medical field. However, no product or medicine makes it acceptable. Just because humans are considered a more powerful species, doesn't give us the right to treat animals as if they are nothing. Would you want to be treated that way by a more dominant species just for their benefit? It is clearly unfair. If you pull your cat's tail, it yells because it hurts. Animals experience pain. They go through the same pain that we would if we were subjected to painful, deadly experiments. Whether it's a dog, cat, rabbit, mouse, chimpanzee, or human, pain is something we all feel. However, when you compare the anatomy of a cat to that of a human, you can find numerous differences, making animal testing unreliable and sometimes even dangerous. Some might say that animal testing is crucial to scientific research but how can something be so crucial if the results are not even completely accurate? Luckily, there are alternatives for animal testing including computer models, cell structures, and human testing. Although some may argue that computer models and cell structures are unreliable, so is animal testing. You are given the choice between two unreliable methods, except in one, you are not killing an innocent creature. Human testing is also a more just method. According to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service performed by the United States Department of Agriculture, there are an estimated 26 million animals that are used for commercial and scientific testing annually in the United States (Annual). How do research facilities and laboratories obtain test subjects? They are mostly supplied by specialist dealers whom breed animals for the sole purpose of selling them as test subjects. Dealers also obtain animals through pounds, shelters, misleading advertisements, and through other means (Miller–Spiegel). Animal testing and research should cease because animals are subjected to cruel inhumane procedures by researchers, viable alternatives exist for animals testing, and results obtained through animal testing are mostly flawed and unreliable. Animals that are used for research and experimentation are often subjected to painful and cruel procedures which is why testing on animals should be ceased because the extreme harm animals endure do not justify the end results. According to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, as well as food and water deprivation. Animals are also physically restrained for prolonged periods of time, inflicted with painful wounds to study the effects and remedies associated with the infliction of pain. Some examples of the painful procedures animals endure include executions Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Animal Testing Research Paper You know those medicines that you can get at the Drug Store? Don't you think that is the greatest medicine for headaches or allergy relief? Well, it was most likely tested on an animal and it could have killed them. Over 100 million animals are injured in a wide variety of ways in the U.S. alone . Some animals spend their entire lives in captivity constantly getting tortured or abused. Also, it has been proven that only 50% of the time animal testing also works on humans, so while we tested on animals and it worked for animals, you might as well flip a coin as to whether it will benefit people. One reason animal testing should be banned is that animals in the testing environment feel scared and afraid. Also in those labs after animals have suffered through the process of being tested on they are then dumped back into a cage without any painkillers to ease the extreme pain that they are facing. Have you ever broken a bone or burned yourself on something and it has hurt extremely? Imagine that going through your entire body and the people that have done that to you don't even give you something to help ease it. Well, this happens on a daily basis to those animals and in all honesty,it probably goes on for the rest of their life....show more content... But those animals will never be the same as they were before. They may have trust issues against people, or they may hide in dark corners because they are still terrified that the people who are now caring for them will still harm them. Now you may be thinking " well they are just animals " but they have feelings too. If the government were to take you away and lock you in a cage with as much food as you need to not starve to death. You would be miserable but on top of that they are also testing on you with things that could do a variety such as burns, sickness/disease, and in some cases Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. Outline For Animal Testing Essay Animal Testing Thesis ––– Medical Animal testing should be banned in the United States. History–––– An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the United States for scientific and commercial testing. Animals are used to develop medical treatments, determine the toxicity of medications, check the safety of products destined for human use, and other biomedical, commercial, and health care uses. Research on living animals has been practiced since at least 500 BC.In the 1940s, Jonas Salk used rhesus monkey to cross–contamination studies to isolate the three forms of the polio virus that affected hundreds of thousands yearly.Salk's team created a vaccine against the strains of polio in cell cultures of rhesus monkey kidney cells. The vaccine was made...show more content... The vaccine was produced for mass consumption in 1963 and is still in use today. It had virtually eradicated polio in the USA by 1965. It has been estimated that 100,000 rhesus monkeys were killed in the course of developing the polio vaccines, and 65 doses of vaccine were produced from each monkey. In 1992, Sabin said, "Without the use of animals and human beings, it would have been impossible to acquire the important knowledge needed to prevent much suffering and premature death not only among humans but animals as well."The most recent use of primates in Nobel Prize winning research occurred in 1981; Roger W. Sperry, David H. Hubel and Torsten N. Wiesel were awarded the coveted award for their work exploring brain function. By studying monkeys, Roger W. Sperry found that the nerves connecting the left and right hemispheres of the brain could be severed without causing any drastic changes in the monkeys; each side of the brain was still able to learn, however, what was learned by one side could no longer be retrieved by the other. Repeated force feeding involves forcing animals to eat certain substances over and over just for observation. What is the point in this? Another experiment performed on animals is killing pregnant animals and examining and experimenting on the fetuses. Killing a mother and killing a baby that hasn't even been born yet is wrong and it should be stopped. Killing an animal for no reason is cruel. That's a life you are taking away. Just imagine if it was you. Animals should only be killed for food, not to be used for testing. Animals can be burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused as a result of testing. And the list could go on forever. The way animals are being mistreated and tested on should be against the law. There is a different ways to do research other than killing and abusing animals. There are many alternate test that scientist can use to do there research without harming animals. Alternative test are defined as test that use the three "R's", a test that replaces a procedure that uses animals with one that doesn't, a test that reduces the number of animals used in a procedure, and test that refine a procedure to cause less pain to the animal.(11 Facts about...) • 12. The Effects Of Animal Testing Essay The Effects of Animal Testing Animal testing is by far, inhumane and downright unacceptable. Although, there are various types of organizations that are pro–animal care, such as, Animal Welfare information center, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare and,People for the Ethical Treatment of Animalsor, PETA, all in which do their best to keepanimal testing as humane as possible, there are alternatives for finding cures or testing the safety of certain products. Animal cruelty is detrimental to numerous species enduring studies in labs; the importance of companies noticing this tragedy could save millions of animal lives, all while having the same outcomes and benefits for humans or more desirable results. Animal testing is animal cruelty. The animals or "guinea pigs" per say, used in these experiments are being held captive, obviously against their own will since they cannot speak, and are under extreme stress. In spite of the fact that, animals cannot voice their discomforts, they do so by refusing to eat or remaining still as opposed to engaging in normal activity (Schreiner). Particular tests performed lead to genetic mutation and sometimes forced pregnancies. In the online article, "Effects of Animal Testing," Schreiner states that, "Genetic mutations are induced to test the validity of a scientific principle or the effect of the manipulation of one or more of the animals' genes." Thus, leading to ineffective interactions Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Animal Testing Synthesis Essay Envision a life without value or care. That is how animals being tested on feel. Animal testing is unethical and corrupt. Human species are not more deserving than other species. An alternative route should be taken for testing pharmaceutical or cosmetic products. Imagine having no rights, being treated crudely everyday, and constantly being in pain. That is how animals that live their lives in labs feel every single day. Many animals die from being tested on, "Animals killed each year worldwide for experiments and drug research range from 50 to 100 million." (Source A). There are organizations like PETA (People or the Ethical Treatment of Animals) that are trying to stop speciesism and get natural rights for animals. Speciesism is "the habit of attributing greater moral significance to the well–being of animals." (Source C). Animals have the ability to think and feel just as humans do. This only makes it right for animals to possess rights like humans. Humans should not hold themselves higher than any other species, "humans are inherently no better than or different from other animals, and should have no right to hold our own interests above the interests of other species."...show more content... There are major effects that take part on this animal because of the products being tested on them. In a picture titled "Because I'm Worth It," it shows a bunny trapped, thinking to itself, "Let's see now...I've been blinded...I've been in excruciating pain for months, and any day now they're gonna give me a lethal injection." (Source F) Others might argue that this type of testing is necessary like, "Many of the cures we celebrate –– and let's remember that cancer is now more survivable than ever –– were developed only because researchers were able to carry out experiments on animals." (Source B) However, there can be alternatives, that do not include the harming or killing of millions of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Outline On Animal Testing Animal Testing Do you know what animal testing is? Animal testing is where an animal test is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm. Animal experiments are not the same as taking your companion animal to the vet. Animals used in testing labs are purposely harmed, not for their own good, and are usually killed at the end of the experiment. The different forms of animal testing: Animal testing is carried out in a wide range of areas, including biological research, and testing medicines and chemicals. Even animal testing for cosmetics and makeup is allowed in 80% of the world. There is 'Fundamental' biological research is designed to answer 'interesting' scientific...show more content... Why do companies continue to test on animals? Companies test on animals to provide data that they can use to protect themselves when they are sued by injured consumers even though some courts have ruled that the FDA has failed to show that the results of animal tests can be deduced to humans. The unreliability of animal tests allows companies to put virtually any product on the market. If cosmetics or household products blind or poison animals during tests, they are often sold anyway. Companies use the fact that the products have been tested rather than the actual test results–to support the claim that they are conscientious. In most cases, companies settle out of court, preferring to pay off the injured consumer rather than bring the unreliability of their testing practices to light. In some cases, courts have ruled in favor of the injured consumers. In the end, animal tests protect no Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Animal Testing Research Paper Can animal testing be stopped? Geoff Watts believed it could be stopped. Watts questioned whether it was really necessary to continue animal testing. He knew they couldn't just end animal testing overnight, this was something he was going to work hard to accomplish. His main goal was not only to end animal testing but to also replace it in the process. Then there's the question, with what? They argued that most of the desired knowledge could be easily acquired without the use of animal experimentation, it also many of the experiments that were done had little or no use of them an ally. Many of the tests were mainly done because they were required to. This information is supported by what three scientists said about animal testing "... they Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Some are our pets, and some are powerful forces that are to be respected and admired. It is as easy to appreciate a loyal dog as it is to be in awe of a lion in its' natural habitat. But the truth that many people either don't know or don't appreciate is that animals are essential to human existence and have played a vital role in improving the quality of our lives. They have been providing us with answers to our most complex medical questions for decades. Their role in finding cures for diseases, treatments for illness, and product safety is immense. First, we will examine how animal testing has...show more content... Many of the cosmetics that we use every day have also been tested on animals. The number of animals used for cosmetic testing has been greatly reduced as the potential hazards have been eliminated. Products such as sunscreens, anti–dandruff shampoos, fluoride toothpaste, and anti–acne creams could not have been proven safe without the use of animal testing since they contain ingredients that cause a chemical change in the body that could be harmful, even deadly. Without these safety tests, it would be impossible to ensure that these products are safe. You may think of animal testing and picture a wet bunny all beat up and shivering in a cold barren cage. However, this is not the case, for the law requires that the lab animals are housed in an environment appropriate for their species and are well cared for (Institute for Laboratory Animal Research, 2011). Animals tested on in a laboratory can actually adapt with minimal stress and are provided with everything they need by highly trained professionals. Animal care standards in a testing facility are, more often than not, better than those at shelters, pet stores, even farms. However, I do not wish to neglect the test animals' discomfort, for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Arguments Against Animal Testing Thesis: The debate on whether using animals is the correct choice of method for testing out experiments and products, is still up for discussion, considering that animals have helped us in finding many treatments and cures in the past. Today, with new technology, we no longer need the use of animals, as there are now alternatives to this practice. Companies and labs that originally started out using animals as test subjects are starting to switch over to new alternatives, as they are more accurate compared to the old methods that was used in the past. Throughout time, using animals as test subjects has been beneficial in finding numerous cures and treatments for patients with diseases and other health complications. According to the California Biomedical Research Association " Nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals". The discovery of insulin, where pancreases where removed from dogs during this experiment, saved lives of those who are diabetic. Rabbits are often used in these practices, which involves their eyelids to be held open with the use of clips, so none of the product can be blinked away. Scientists everywhere are using animals to test there products. "There could be as high as 115,000,000 animals per year used in testing, most of them get *euthanized at the end of the experiment". According to the article this house would ban animal testing from ideabate.org. "research on living animals have been practiced since 500 B.C." Think about how many animals that have been used! First of all, animals are being taken away from there homes to be used for testing. Secondly, research can be done effectively without harming an animal or human. Lastly, animal research causes harm to the animal. All of my reasons...show more content... I think that is not true because animals just dont have as much of a way to express to us that its hurting them, some animals used cant even make a sound wich is very hard for the animal not being able to show there in pain. Pro– also from the passage this house would ban animal testing, they explain how animal testing is killing millions of animals in a horrible way. Chemist corner estimates that in 10–20 years animal testing will be ban because of the majority of the people against animal testing, for example 23% of the people are strongly against animal testing, that number every day is growing. Animal research causes more harm than people think it does. Summation On the other hand, according to research, animal testing can be beneficial because it can be very accurate, and its less painful for an animal than for a human. However, The positives for not using animal testing outweighs the negatives. Animal testing is a growing issue throughout the entire world, not only is it affecting the lives of the animals, but the people who use the products too. New ground breaking programs have shown us that technology is an amazing creation that is allowing us to grow human skin and conduct tests on it. This will also avow us to stop experimenting products on animals, conveying a more authentic conclusion. Kara Rogers acknowledges the use of other variables of testing in her article, "Scientific Alternatives to Animal Testing: Progress Report" that, "Artificial human skin, such as the commercially available products EpiDerm and ThinCert... More useful results than testing chemicals on animal skin" (Rogers). Animals can not be replicated o test on to get accurate results. So this indicates the push for using something more similar to human skin which can bring a better outcome to lab results. Animal testing is a growing issue throughout the entire world and the main issue is animals do not have a voice to speak their rights. We currently do have the technology to test products on them without harming anyone or anything. Many citizens don't even realize scientist still use that method but test on animals instead. This is called animal experimentation. Although scientific animal experimentation is commonly used, investigations should decrease since animals are not effective test subjects when testing products and these experiments can waste money. When performing experiments and tests for human products, animals are not accurate and effective test subjects. For instance, Animals have different genetics from humans.
