An alumnus of Syracuse University, Boeheim has been coach
of the school's men's basketball team since 1976 and has
compiled a win-loss record of 1004-357. Throughout his 41-
year coaching career, Syracuse has consistently been ranked
by the Associated Press as one of the top 25 teams in the
NCAA, and, during the 1987-88 season, was ranked No. 1 for
most of the season.
3. Boeheim has led Syracuse to 10 regular season
conference championships and 32 appearances in the
NCAA Tournament, where it reached the Final Four
five times and won a National Championship in 2003.
Syracuse entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed in
the East Regional and defeated Manhattan, Oklahoma
State, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Texas en route to the
National Championship game against Kansas, which it
won 81-78. Boeheim planned to retire following the
2017-18 season but was recently given a contract
extension by the school as his designated successor,
Mike Hopkins, accepted a head coaching position at
the University of Washington.
