1. Bernardo Chua: Promoting Healthy Business
Bernardo Chua now has a life much different from the one he lived as a child in
the Philippines. He used his knowledge of plants and herbs to create and market
Ganoderma (mushrooms) in consumable products. He then worked diligently in
direct sales for Gano Excel in the Philippines, aiding in the expansion of the
company into China, Canada, and the U.S.
After moving to California, Chua used his extensive sales skills to develop a
marketing plan for the sale of Ganoderma as an additive to instant coffee, teas,
supplements and body care products. He saw the success of the product in the
Asian markets and surmised that using direct sales through a distribution
network was the most effective and quickest way to get Ganoderma to American
consumers. He founded Organo Gold in 2008.
Chua’s marketing focus was on educating consumers about the benefits of the
Ganoderma herb. In an effort to encourage consumer trust in the brand, he
strategically established the global headquarters in British Columbia, aware of
Canada’s strict policies and regulations on product manufacturing. Within the
first five years of operation, Organo Gold was one of the top 100 direct selling
companies in the world with thousands of active distributors.
Organo Gold’s multi-level marketing plan allows for low overhead and higher
commissions. The plan includes level, leadership, and fast-track bonuses in
addition to retail and profit-sharing income streams. In 2012, distributors in
13 countries generated over $300 million in company revenue, crediting Chua’s
sales strategy as the key to their successes.
Chua has been recognized for his business skills with many awards including:
Dangal Ng Bayan Award for Excellence
People’s Choice Award (twice received)
Outstanding Global Entrepreneur
National Consumer Quality Award
Chua has also established the OG Cares Foundation, a non-profit organization
dedicated to youth leadership. The company also has active partnerships with The
Napoleon Hill Foundation, the Organic Trade Association (OTA), and ECOCERT. In
early 2015, the company expanded operations into Turkey, the 39th country added
to the Organo Gold network. The company is currently revamping its product line
and anticipates a distribution base of over 1 million agents by the end of 2016.
