This assignment covers Grading Criteria P1, M1 and D1 Unit 4 “Creative Media Production Management
project”
Scenario
As a result of completing this assignment you will be given the opportunity to enhance your skills through the
planning and management of media products. The product/s will be chosen by you. You will be working in
small groups/teams for part of the project and individually on other parts. You will demonstrate production
management skills by taking a negotiated role in the project. You are encouraged to sell your idea to a real
organisation, client or within the educational establishment if possible. You may wish to consider one of the
following: (or discuss with your Tutor any other ideas you may have)

You will be allocated into a group/team. You need to brainstorm ideas for a creative
media product. In a short report, you will need to analyse each of these ideas and
finally select the media product your group/team will produce. You will need to fully
justify the chosen product.
Originate ideas: group and individual brainstorming; analysis of each idea;
selection; justification.

2. Task 2
Working individually, you now need to fully research your idea and produce an initial
guide to your product. You must cover the range below. You will need to:
identify your target audience and undertake research into appropriate content
based on your choice
create a mood board and sketches/designs/draft of your initial ideas.
research and identify your competitors and market
Research an idea: audience research, e.g. age, gender, socio-economic
grouping, lifestyle, location; audience figures, e.g. RAJAR, BARB, ABC, CAA,
ELSPA, ChartTrack, MCV; primary content research, e.g. interviews,
questionnaires, own observations; secondary content research, e.g.
newspapers, magazines, books, audio, audio-visual, electronic, internet,
archives, libraries; research into competitors; research into market
Develop an idea: eg mood boards, thumbnails, mock-ups, surveys
Task 3
As with any project there will be a number of constraints. You need to research the
range and identify how these constraints will or may affect your final product.
Constraints: time; costs; personnel; resources; legal and ethical considerations,
eg privacy, libel law, defamation, race discrimination law, data protection,
freedom of information; codes of practice; copyright (requirement, owner,
clearance, cost)
