Oakland Schools Technical Campus students win Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at State
HOSA Conference
On April 17-18, 2008 the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Conference was
held in Traverse City. Oakland Schools Technical Campus students were among nearly 1,100
students who competed in various events at the State Conference. Congratulations to the following
students who placed in these competitions:

• Second Place, Health Display Board, Chelsea Loehr (Lake Orion High School senior)
• Second Place, Health Display Board, Katelyn Hopper (Lake Orion High School senior)
Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest
• First Place, Health Education, Alessandra Arbex (South Lyon High School senior)
• First Place, Health Education, Brenda Lince (North Farmington High School senior)
• First Place, Health Education, Evan Donahue (Walled Lake Western senior)
• First Place, EMT, Lorne May (Milford High School senior)
• First Place, EMT, Grant White (South Lyon High School junior)
• Third Place, Prepared Speaking, Rachel Capo (South Lyon High School senior)
These eight students are invited to participate in the National HOSA competitions in Dallas, Texas
June 18-21, 2008. Seven additional students placed in the top ten. Congratulations! For more

Businesses Invited to Explore the Opportunities at Job Fair
On Friday, May 16, 2008 Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest is hosting the first annual
job fair. Businesses are invited to register for this unique job fair that will connect them with students
in Southwest Oakland County. These junior and senior high school students have completed their
programs at the Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest and are looking for summer and/or
entry-level employment. There is no cost for businesses to participate but space is limited. Please
register by May 2, 2008 by contacting Kimberly Thomas or Sharon Jennings at 248.668.5600.
Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest is located at 1000 Beck Road in Wixom, MI.
High School Students Host Bowl-a-Thon for Charity - 3rd
Annual Event to Benefit
the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)
Business, Management, Marketing & Technology (BMMT) students at Oakland Schools Technical
Campus Southeast in Royal Oak are hosting a MDA Charity Bowl-a-thon on Wednesday, May 21,
2008. The event will be held at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights, Michigan.
BMMT students will be seeking sponsorships, bowlers, and donations from businesses within the
community. MDA is a volunteer health agency that assists individuals who have been diagnosed with
one of forty neuromuscular disorders. Proceeds from this event will benefit MDA’s local patient
service programs, summer camp, clinics and support groups.

Welding student wins Merit Award
Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest welding student Tarrah DeBord, (South Lyon High
School senior) won the 2008 Breaking Traditions Merit Award. Tarrah was one of only 18 students
selected statewide. She is recognized for accomplishments in a nontraditional Career and Technical
Education program. Tarrah, her family and her welding instructor, Bob Hughes, have been invited to
attend an awards ceremony in Lansing on May 15, 2008.
