Get to Know Your Board of Education
We believe it is our duty and responsibility to increase
student achievement and provide parents with
the choices they deserve and desire.
We strive to communicate with parents,
the public, legislators, business leaders,
cities and parents.
It is with great pride that I serve as
Superintendent of Schools. As we strive
to provide a quality education for
Every Child, Every Day, I believe that
each and every student can achieve at
the highest level with the help of caring
and committed educators.
Part of our goal in education is to create life-long learners
for the communities in which we live. This year, 3,412
students graduated from our schools with an accumulation
of more than $29 million in scholarships!
Jordan School District is committed to providing the very
best education for Every Child, Every Day. We do this
humble work with great dedication and enthusiasm. Our
teachers, administrators and support staff understand that
a strong public education system is the pathway to success
for children. When we meet those educational needs, the
end result is a more successful and vibrant community,
with an educated workforce contributing to the economy.
Thank you for your support as we work to ensure the
educational success of our young people who will ultimately
be our state and community leaders of tomorrow.

We’re 2015 SNAP Award Winners
The Utah Department of Transportation SNAP (Student
Neighborhood Access Program)
award is presented
to one school
district in the state
each year. We were
chosen because of our
efforts to foster safety
for children walking and
bicycling to school. We were
also recognized because of the
number of parents and community members involved.
This academic year, all five of our traditional high
schools broke records in their holiday charitable
fundraising events. Students, staff and members
						of the community
					 donated a total of $338,100!
	•	Bingham High - $96,400
	•	Copper Hills High - $22,600
	•	Herriman High - $62,000
	•	Riverton High - $133,600
	•	West Jordan High - $23,500
We continue to put student growth and achievement
at the forefront of all we do. Consequently, SAGE test
scores are up significantly from one year ago.
Overall, students in our schools increased proficiency
by more than 4% on the exam. Here is a breakdown
of the increases by subject tested:
Without donations to the Jordan Education Foundation, many programs
would not be possible. Over the past five years, the Foundation has:
	 •	Contributed $2,140,000 directly to our
classrooms for teaching tools like books and
		 technology to support STEM education.
	 •	Awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships
		for students.
	 •	Provided $20,000 in vouchers for eye exams
and glasses for children who cannot afford them.
SAGE Scores Are Up

Three New Schools Coming Soon
Be a Safety Super Hero
Record Year for Student Giving
A second campus of the Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers (JATC)
will be opening in Riverton with new course offerings and 58,690 square
feet of space. The new JATC South will be home to six programs initially:
Barbering, Horticulture/Landscape Management, Fire
Science/EMT, Nail Technician and Teacher Education.
Students can apply for any of the 23 programs offered at
www.jatc-wj.org. In addition, Jordan is moving forward with
plans to build two new elementary schools; one in the
Daybreak development and the other in Herriman. The
schools are slated to open for the 2017-18 school year.
This year we saved more than $460,000 in utility costs
and usage. We switched to LED lighting in some of our
buildings, amounting to a savings of nearly $40,000 annually.
We received almost $29,000 in utility incentives to help
implement energy saving projects. This summer, more LED
lighting retrofits are planned which are projected to lower energy
costs by another $60,000 a year, with potential incentives of almost $65,000.
Seven elementary
schools will be back on a
traditional calendar in the new
school year, beginning Tuesday, August 25.

Back to Traditional
Accreditation First!
Congratulations to everyone at
the Kauri Sue Hamilton School.
It is the first special needs,
center-based school in Utah to
receive accreditation. This is an
achievement that involved
intense scrutiny by an external
review team. The team looked
at everything
from leadership
and culture to
student success.
The goal of
accreditation
is continued school improvement.
	•	West Jordan Middle – Air conditioning, roof
		 and boiler replacement, safety modifications
	•	Oquirrh Hills Middle – Air conditioning,
admin office relocation for student safety
	•	Joel P. Jensen Middle – Air conditioning,
admin office relocation for student safety
	•	Southland Elementary – LED lighting and
		 classroom upgrades, new safety systems
	•	Welby Elementary – New fire system,
		 LED lighting, restrooms, classrooms and
		 admin office upgrades for safety
The safety of children in Jordan is a top priority. All of
our schools teach safety to students in drills and
assemblies throughout the year. Parents are encouraged
to watch a District-produced safety video
with their children to reinforce rules and
behaviors that could be life-saving. Go to
