The Fluorescent Assay Visualizer is a low cost, robust, field-deployable tool for interpreting high sensitivity qualitative fluorescent lateral flow or molecular assays. Significantly less expensive than a digital reader, but allowing the performance of a fluorescent test to be utilized in low cost or difficult field environments that will not support digital equipment.
Omega Medical and DCN Diagnostics approached Bazza Design with a need to refine this new concept as a hand held medical device. Some basic 3D was created by Omega to prove out their concept but they realized that they needed to work out the form in a ergonomic way that was comfortable to the hand and was sized correctly to personally carry.

Where We Started
A crude proof of concept was created by Omega
Medical to demonstrate the mechanical aspects of the
design. Size was determined, but button location/size,
viewing window location/size and overall form as it
related to how it felt in the hand needed refinement.
A parameter of being able to view it as it sat on a table
top was also important to the form.

Form Studies
Getting My hands dirty was called for next. Very
quick form studies were created out of modeling
clay. Size and form fit to the hand was explored as
well as part line and assembly concerns. Below are
a few of the “Fast Forms” created. They helped
immeasurably in defining the sketch studies that
came next.
