1. Photosynthesis in Plants
Objectives:
• Define what photosynthesis is.
• Identify the parts responsible for it to occur.
• Name the things needed for it to occur.
• Identify the gases needed and released during the process.
2. Photosynthesis is the process where by green plants use radiant
energy to manufacture their own food.
Photosynthesis occurs in green plants (leaves).
Besides green plants some algae and bacteria can manufacture
their own food.
The xylem transport water from the roots trough the stem into the
leaves.
Carbon dioxide is also needed which is from the atmosphere.
Generally this oxygen is from the air exhaled by living organism,
e.g Humans
3. SUMMERY OF THE LIST OF WHAT IS NEEDED
FOR PHOTOSYNTRHESUS TO OCCUR
Radiant energy from the Sun
Water absorbed by the roots
Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
Chlorophyll (green pigment which absorb radiant energy)

6. REVIEW.
• What is photosynthesis?
• Why is the presence of chlorophyll important for the process to occur?
• List all the necessities for photosynthesis to occur.
• What is the name of the gas required for photosynthesis ?
• What is the name of the gas released?
