List of Editorial Problems Solved…………….11
4
An Editor is “a person who prepares a book to be published, for example by checking and correcting the
text, making improvements, etc.” (The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary)

yourMinistry?
Proof-Reading We shall work at two levels:
1. Accuracy
We shall correct errors in
syntax, semantics, and lexis.
2. Consistency
We shall apply systematically
to every sentence the same
linguistic rules.
The book-writing process requires a
qualified and professional proof-reader.
Such a person is highly trained in
Linguistics, and he has a deep experience
in proof-reading.
We have, by God’s Grace, the
experience, the linguistic knowledge, and
the moral qualification necessary to do a
good job that will satisfy the most
stringent eyes and please the Lord.
With us, you get the peace of mind that
your books, articles, brochures,
magazines, letters will meet the
publishable requirements and standard
everywhere in the world.
Note:
Before the publication, the proof-reader does his job to make sure that there are not mistakes. This stage of
the writing process comes after the copy-editing process.
6
The "five Cs" summarize the copy editor's job, which is to make the copy clear, correct, concise,
comprehensible, and consistent. Typically, copy editing involves correcting spelling, punctuation,
grammar, terminology, jargon, and semantics, and ensuring that the text adheres to the publisher's style.
Besides an excellent command of language, we have a high capacity for spotting factual errors; good
critical thinking skills in order to recognize inconsistencies or vagueness; interpersonal skills for dealing
with writers, other editors and designers; attention to detail; and a sense of style.
Editing WhatdoI plan toachieveforyou? Whatarethebenefits
foryou?
Copy-Editing We shall ensure that your text makes sense and
is pleasant to read. In that linguistic logic, my
role will be to improve your writing.
As a copy-editor, We do not look at what you
are saying but at HOW you are saying it. In a
word, I handle the COMMUNICATION aspect
of your writing.
Your message will be
clear, accessible,
interesting, memorable
and effective.
The communication
dimension of Copy-
Editing: writing to
communicate
What do Iplanto achieveforyou? Whatarethe
benefitsforyou?
ExpositoryWriting We shall ensure that your text respects
the principles of written communication:
clarity, conciseness, and density.
A communication
that is effective.
WritingStyle We shall ensure that your text respects
the five canons of style: Correctness
(following the rules of language), Clarity
(writing to be understood), Evidence
(vivid description), Propriety (using the
language that is suitable for the
situation), Ornateness (using elegance).
The books will
display a good style.
Note:
The copy-editor does not touch the subject matter of the book. He ensures that the writing respects the
canons of written communication.
7
Development editing goes beyond the language-based approach of copy-editing and looks at the bigger
picture of the document--at elements such as structure, pace, and characterisation, for example. The
development editor copy-edits and makes plenty of detailed, helpful suggestions to guide the author in
developing the book. Light development editing sticks to flagging major issues; intensive development
editing works line by line to develop the book.
Editing Whatdo Iplanto achieveforyou? Whatarethebenefits
foryou?
Development
editing
(developmental or
contentediting)
We perform an intensive language and
development edit. We work through the
book sentence by sentence, intensively
editing and working to develop all aspects
of a document, including the plot,
characterisation, content, structure, and
overall writing style.
You will get documents
that are in good shape.
8
We are equipped to assess all types of writing to see what's working, what could be improved, and to take
a view on publishing potential. As an author, you're too close to your book to spot most problems,
weaknesses and inconsistencies, but a professional critique helps you address issues, further develop your
book and get a better idea of its suitability for publication.
Editing Whatdo Iplanto achieveforyou? Whatarethebenefits
foryou?
BookCritique We go through the manuscript with a
fine-tooth comb, making detailed
comments and suggestions to help you
develop all aspects of the document:
genre, writing style, characterisation,
setting, plot, structure and readiness for
publication.
Your document will
meet the publishable
standard.
9
If you want to write, rewrite or develop a document, but you don't have the time, the inclination, the
know-how or the creative ability to do so, you need us.
