2. Problem Statement
Cause of high cost of energy in a typical
house -> many electrical appliances.
Two categories of appliances:
Heating
Cooling

3. Benefits and/or impact if
problem is solved
Could help general household user to
manage the energy effectively
Reducing the monthly cost.
May also contribute to green’s house
technology approach.

Inventive principles Potential Solution(s)
1. 1- Segmentation i. Schedule the use of some appliances such as air
conditioner and lightings using timer.
ii. Use sensory lighting to switch on and off.
iii. Use air conditioning sensor and switches to
automatically control the temperature and switch
off the appliance.
2. 6- Universality,
multi-functionality
i. Use multi-function appliances (e.g rainbow system
plus garment steamer function)
3. 12-equipotentality ,
remove stress
i. Instead of relying only on air conditioner, lower
the temperature of the air conditioner and
together, switch on the ceiling fan to circulate the
cold air to entire space.
ii. Instead of switching on many light sources in the
house, place many mirrors to reflect light across a
space. This could brighten up the area with
minimum light source.
4. 28- mechanics
substitution
i. The use of timer to automate power activation
instead of manual switching action by user.
5. 35-parameters
changes
ii. Use portable air cooler instead of static of
portable air conditioner. To make the air cooler
much colder, put rock salt in the water tank to
lower the temperature of water. The use of rock
salt has been proven in the making of home-made
ice cream.
