Open Scholarship Initiative Expands Research Throughout George Mason University
FAIRFAX, Va (March 4, 2016)- The Open Scholarship Initiative an organization originated from nSCI, a
US-based nonprofit, brings together a diverse and high-level group of scholarly publishing decision
makers into a series of meetings designed to share ideas and perspectives to find actionable solutions.
Over the next 10 years,OSI delegates, will revisit at annual meetings throughout various university
campuses in the United States, following their inaugural 2016 meeting at George Mason University. The
program will consist of three days, April 19, 2016 to April 21, 2016 as Mason will have the honor of
supporting, managing and hosting the event.
Azize Hazou, a senior in communication, has been given the opportunity to work as a public relations
ambassador for the Open Scholarship Initiative as she will be developing proper material that will be
made available for the delegates throughout their stay at Mason. As well as, escorting delegates to proper
halls for extensive meetings.
“I am very honored and excited to be able to work with the Open Scholarship Initiative,” Hazou said. “It
will be a very thrilling experience as I will get to guide stakeholders to a brighter future by providing the
most we can as students of George Mason University and as the University itself.”
Hazou has been assigned as one of the three public relations coordinator, focusing on monitoring all
social media, providing photography or video coverage,and organizing student ambassadors to meet with
delegates and escort them across campus.
OSI will be inviting conference delegates who are C-level representatives from hey stakeholder groups in
scholarly publishing. Hazou as a bilingual speaker will be a key ambassador to guide delegates
throughout the George Mason University Campus. With her future goals to potentially work as a public
affairs specialist for the Navy, she will be able to converse with many delegates as she will be escorting
them to desired locations.
“Azize is professional, conscientious, gracious,” said Katherine E. Rowan, professor at George Mason
University. “I think she will be an outstanding ambassador for OSI.”
