2. History
• 1998
• 2005
• March 1st 2003
• 8th February
2008
• Maya release first Maya software version 1.0 and was introduce by Alias System
Corporation.
• Maya was bought by Autodesk.
• Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with an Academy Award for Technical
Achievements for scientific and technical achievement for their development of Maya
software.
• Academy Award for Technical Achievements for the design and implementation of the
Maya Fluid Effects system.
3. Introduction
• It is a computer graphic software used to create interactive 3D application
including games, Animated Films, TV Series etc.
• It is supported in Windows Operation System, Linux and also in MacOs.
• From this software we can do different types of activites like:
I. Modeling
II. Texturing
III. Lighting
IV. Animation
V. Rendering
4. Modeling
Fig: Modeling Of Ninja
1. Modeling is the first step in the maya software it is used to
built the task of building the props, environment and the
characters.
2. It takes the shape and molding it into the completed 3D mesh.
3. To create 3D object we must need to take sample object .
4. It provide us the better quality while creating 3D object in
comparison to 3Ds Max.
5. Texturing
Fig Texturing of Bed
1. It is the second step done in Maya software it is the art of giving clothe to
the 3D modelling which we have done.
2. Texturing is also called mapping it is the process of adding color and
different types of design in modeling from the Maya software.
3. Mainly maps which we used are created from the Photoshop and also can
be brushed onto the model easily as from this software too.
4. In this picture also it is show how the texturing is done in the Maya
software.
6. Lighting
1. It is the 3d step of after doing texturing in Maya software basically
lighting is done.
2. Its is essential to create the real life environment in the 3d world.
3. In Maya software there are 6 type of light they are:
1. Spot light
2. Directional light
3. Point light
4. Area light
5. Ambient light
6. Volume light

7. Rigging And Skinning
Fig: Character Rigging
1. It is the third step in while making character in Maya and also its is the
most hardest step in this software.
2. In this we have to keep bone in the 3D character in Maya.
3. Skinning is also part of the Maya Software it helps to attached the 3D
model with the rigged bone so that 3D model done in Maya can be
manipulated and can be control.
8. Animation
1. It is the second last step done in Maya Software in this 3D object gets
moving.
2. To do animation we need to keep key frame in the time table by
moving the 3D character. In given picture also it is shown how the
animation is done in Maya Software.
3. There must need to apply 12 principal while doing animation in the
Maya. While doing animation in Maya there must be 24 frame per
second.
9. Rendering
Fig Rendering of Troops
1. It is the last step done in Maya Software and it is the most important
part.
2. In this step it includes attention of placement of camera, lighting
choices which may affect moods and shadows and also handle of
special effect, like fluids or gasses.
3. In this we need to create different passes to export in other software
like after effect, Photoshop etc.
10. Components
1. Fluid Effect: It is a realistic simulator based on simplified, incompressible for simulating
non-elastic fluids was added in 4.5 version of Maya.
2. Bifrost: It is a computational fluid dynamics framework based on fluid- implicit particle
simulation which is available in Maya 2015.
3. Fur: It is designed for large area coverage of short hairs and hair like materials. It is used as
simulate short fur like object such as grass and carpet.
4. nHair: It is capable of simulating dynamic forces acting on long hair and per- hair collisions.
5. nCloth: It was added in 8.5 version, nCloth is the first implementation of Maya Nucleus,
Autodesk’s simulation framework. It provides artist with detailed control of cloths and
material simulation.
6. nParticles: It was added in version 2009, it is for simulating a wide range of complex 3D
effects including liquids, clouds, smokes, spray and dust.
11. Comparison between Maya and Max
Autodesk Maya
• It offer as part of A&E collection
and has more features for
animators.
• Many animators prefers Maya’s
toolset for the setting keyframes
and utilizing curves.
• The most out of Maya requires
some scripting using a MEL
script (ASCII) file format.
Autodesk Max
• It offers better interoperability
with other Autodesk products.
• Many prefer 3ds max for
materials and rendering due to
the ease of materials setup.
• The most out of 3ds Max can
requires some scripting using
Maxscript.
