Data PASS overs training for Research Assistants which includes:
• Transparency and Integrity in Empirical Research (Project TIER)
• Data Quality and Documentation Review
• Data Management
• Code Review
• Versioning Software (Github)
• Using Markdowns (R and Stata)
1. We offer Transparency and Reproducibility
Training for RAs, which include:
• Transparency and Integrity in Empirical Research (Project TIER)
• Data Quality and Documentation Review
• Data Management
• Code Review
• Versioning Software (Github)
• Using Markdowns (R and Stata)
• Note: we offer these trainings because of scalability issues. We have to
shift much of the labor to the RA or researcher.
2. We offer Reproduction of Results service on
campus
• Advantages to Journals, include:
• we do the pre-publication replication
• shared replication materials guaranteed to reproduce results found on the paper
saving the journal potential embarrassment resulting from post-publication error
• guaranteed that shared replication materials are well documented and
independently understandable for informed reuse
• we provide and maintain the repository (the 'middle ground') for the replication and
supplementary materials for the article, therefore not incurring costs to the journals
• we provide the DOI for the study/data that the journal can link to
• we can customize the archive page for the article to comply with journal
requirements, and more
• our repository adheres to well-known and established standards such as Open Data
Certificate, Top Guidelines, DDI, (others???) and is Data Seal of Approval (DSA)
Certified

Step 8.
The next step is gaining access to the materials. To gain access to the replication materials in our archive we have two options.
One option is through the CISER Data Archive Catalog.
Here is an example of the page of one of our replicated studies. Information includes author, year, title, publication, abstract, keywords, and contact information.
We will also provide links to metadata with variable level search capabilities through CISER’s instance of CED2AR, links to the journal article itself, and the replication materials
We will create the appropriate Open Data Certificate or badge given applicable legal, practical, technical, and social requirements and provide a link to the certificate.
We created our own badge and will stamp it on the page to certify the reproducibility of the research.
We will also include a persistent URL (DOI), list of study and data citations, and documentation about known quality issues. .
We will also include a User feedback form and forum or mailing list where users can put comments or discuss the data, and sign up so they can receive updates relating to the study.
We will also include information about social media accounts, such as Twitter or Facebook, that the researchers are using to connect with people about the study and data.
Basically we are adding elements or setting up the environment that would make it possible for us to attain Open Data platinum level certification for some datasets in our collection in the future.
This is our workflow. It reflects our experiences in dealing with researchers on campus and the various inputs from participants at conferences where we presented the progress of this service.
Step 1.
Client usually provides us advance notice via e-mail that they would like to avail of our service.
We reply to them within instructions on how to prepare and package the materials.
The files should be packaged such that if everything is downloaded together the programs will run without manipulation. Of course, in reality that doesn’t happen.
Step 2.
Client deposits their code, data, and manuscript by sending the package to us via Cornell Dropbox.
