5. Background of the Study
A tire is a torus-shaped rubber covering that surrounds the
wheel rim and transfers the load of a vehicle from the axle,
through the wheel rim to the ground, thereby providing traction
on the surface over which the tire-rim combination travels. Tires
consist of a tread which provides traction, and a body which
contains a certain quantity of compressed air. Therefore,
majority of tires are air inflated structures, which provide an
elastic cushion that reduces the effect of shock as the tire rolls
over rough features on the ground (Hamed, M. 2015). Studies
show that it is important to maintain the correct inflation
pressures in tires in order to keep vehicle dynamics, handling
performance and braking at their best.
6. Objectives
General objective
This research aims to provide convenient tool or equipment for
Automotive students in Camarines Norte State College (CNSC) - College of
Trades and Technology (COTT). To make easiest way of removing and installing
vehicle tires, to lessen their power and efforts when conducting operation.
Specific Objectives
Specifically, the study aims to:
1. Design a Manually Operated Tire Changer using lightweight spatial
steel, steel tube/bar that can use to heavy duty and other necessary
hardware parts with the following features
a. Easily hold and press vehicles wheel for assemble/disassemble
tires.
b. Allows to manually clamp the tire wheel from the system.
c. Reduce manpowered forces.

7. Significance of the Study
This study is made with the aim to established an efficient, and affordable manual
equipment for removing and installing vehicle’s tire. This innovation will help the
automotive students of Camarines Norte State College – College of Trades and

The result of these study will be useful not just only in students but also to the parents,
instructor, school and future researchers.
Students – it will help the students to have a tool that they can use to learn more and
ensure they are safe in every activity they will do. It will speed up their work and ensure

10. Background of the Study
The mechanical puller is a simple device in that it has few and easy
to construct components, namely, the screw, a bolt/head, linkage arm
(jaw) and a handle. The jaws are either two or three. Currently, there
exist different jaw designs. The mechanical pullers work based on the
principle of power screw, that is, they change angular motion into
linear motion to transmit power. The pullers have legs, typically two
or three, which circle the back or inside of a part. They also have a
forcing screw that centers up against the end of a shaft.
