The most common vision problem is refractive errors such as nearsightedness and farsightedness, which requires contact lenses or glasses, but there are other reasons your eyesight might be changing.
3. Amblyopia & Strabismus
Amblyopia occurs when one eye doesn't develop
correctly or loses clear vision due to
poor communication with the brain, causing a lazy
eye. Strabismus is the medical term for eyes that
are out of alignment.
TREATMENTS:
Eye patching, atropine eye drops,
eye muscle surgery, and in some
cases, BOTOX®.
4. Computer Vision
Syndrome
This condition is caused by
extended use of digital screens
such as computers, tablets or
Smartphones.
Symptoms include:
Headaches
Eyestrain
Dry Eyes
Shoulder and/or neck
pain
Blurry vision
TREATMENTS:
Special contact lenses or eyeglasses
for computer use, vision therapy, better
seating position, frequent blinking,
regular breaks and anti-glare screens.
6. Floaters &
Spots
Tiny, opaque particles in
the vitreous gel-filling
inside your eye. Floaters
and spots seem to move
as you try to focus on
them. They come in many
shapes and sizes but are
rarely something to worry
about.
TREATMENTS:
Floaters and spots are rarely harmful,
but if you see them more often than
usual, schedule an eye exam to see if
serious injury or disease is the cause.
7. Keratoconus
Keratoconus causes the
cornea (the transparent
dome of the eye) to
progressively thin and
bulge, causing vision
distortion, light
sensitivity and other
symptoms.
TREATMENTS:
Intacs® Corneal Implants, corneal
cross-linking (CXL), contact lenses
that are rigid and gas permeable,
and in rare instances, corneal
transplant.
8. Keratitis develops when the
cornea becomes swollen and
red. This inflammation could
be caused by:
Keratitis
Eye Injury
Bacteria
Virus
Leaving
contact lenses
on longer than
recommended.
TREATMENTS:
Depending on the cause,
antibiotic, antifungal or antiviral
eye drops and oral medications.
In extreme cases, corneal
transplant.
