2. What is a Brand?
1. A typeof product manufactured by a
particular company under aparticular
name
2. Uniquedesign, sign, symbol, words, or a
combination of theseemployed in creating
an imagethat identifiesaproduct and
differentiatesit from itscompetitors
4. History of the Brand
• Why arewecalled the49ers?
• Funny enough it does have some relationship to the fact
that Charlotte did have a great gold economy in the early
1900sbut that issolely by way of irony.
• In 1949 UNCC, at the time “Charlotte College”, was a
piece of UNC Chapel Hill’s off-campus centers. This
makes sense as UNC is the oldest public university in the
US.
• Had it not been for Bonnie Cone and some helpful
scholars UNCC would likely not be a campus today as
it was scheduled to be shut down like many other off-
campusentitiesof UNC.
5. History of the Brand

Norm’s image isn’t consistent with our niner statue
Norm’s image needs a drastic change - we feel that he should look more like the San Francisco 49er’s Mascot “Sourdough Sam” and ditch the athletic clothes apart from sporting events
Incorporating more of a real niner look and less of a cartoon character will help our student body and others outside of the university take him more seriously
After we create more community involvement, we will most likely have more representation in the media. We should be represented more on the local news to talk about what we are up to and what is going on on UNCC’s campus. UNCC should try for a better reach on social media. They have social media, but they do not connect with students very much. There is only a small number of students that keep up with the social media. They should advertise all of these fun activities that they do and make sure that students are aware about what is going on. When we have more reach with our media, there will be more exposure to others and we will be more known.
