1. Mace oil- An Aromatic

Nutmeg and mace spices are obtained from the nutmeg plants (botanical
name- Myristica fragrans). Mace is a fragrant golden brown spice obtained
from the dried sheath of the nutmeg seed. It adds a nutmeg-like aroma and
warm taste to the food items. It is used to flavour meat varieties, homemade
pickles, stews, savory sauces, and curries. It is taken orally in conditions of flu,
cough, diarrhea, stomach spasms, nausea, gas, or pain.

3. Mace and Its Derivations
Two aromatic products are extracted from the mace spice -
Mace essential oil and Mace oleoresin. The essential oil is
obtained by steam distillation, while oleoresin is derived by
the solvent extraction method. It is thin, clear, pale yellow
to brownish-yellow liquid with a spicy, sweet warm aroma
with woody undertones. The oil has analgesic, antioxidant,
antiemetic (vomiting-preventing), stimulant, antiseptic,
carminative (flatulence -relieving), aphrodisiac, and
emmenagogue properties similar to any other spice oil. It is
used for nausea, dysentery, diarrhea, dyspepsia, and
rheumatism (inflammation & pain), and flavouring.

5. Mace Oil Uses
Mace oil is added to bakery items
such as cakes, custards, puddings
and donuts, and pickles. It is
mixed in soups, sauces, souffles,
poultry & fish recipes. It blends
well with lemon, bergamot,
orange, clove, neroli, clary sage,
rosemary, vetiver, patchouli, and
cinnamon oils for various
purposes. Therefore, it is added
as a blend in aromatherapy.
Multiple skincare products and
perfumes contain the mace oil
due to its long-lasting spicy warm
woody notes.
Some DIY recipes are also useful for the users at large
in their day-to-day life. They are as follow
•
Make a facial scrub with 3-4 drops of mace oil, 15
gm sugar, and 10 drops of bergamot oil. Rub it gently
on the face for 10 minutes and wash with a natural
face wash to get a rejuvenated skin.
• Prepare a diffusion blend for clarity of mind with 3-4
drops of mace oil, 1 drop of rosemary oil, and 2
drops of lemon oil. Add this blend to the water in a
diffuser and turn it on before meditation or study
time.
• Make a body mist by mixing 2-3 drops of mace oil, 2
drops of almond oil, and 2 drops of lemon oil and
apply it to the underarms, behind the earlobe and
knees, and wrists.
• Add 2-3 drops of the oil to 100 ml water and
consume it in conditions of cough, cold, diarrhea,
flatulence, and stomach cramps.
• Mix 2-3 drops of the oil and 5 ml sesame oil. Apply it
on the abdomen in circular motions for digestive
problems. The same can be massaged on sore joints
and muscles.
