TYPES OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
 Renewable energy comes from sources that can be regenerated or naturally replenished.
 The main sources are :- • Water(hydropower andhydrokinetic)
• Wind
• Solar(power andhotwater)
• Biomass(biofueland biopower)
• Geothermal(power andheating)
 All sources of renewable energy are used to generate electric power. In addition, geothermal steam is
used directly for heating and cooking. Biomass and solar sources are also used for space and water
heating. Ethanol and biodiesel (and to a lesser extent, gaseous biomethane) are used for
transportation.....
Hydropoe or hydroelectric power, is a renewable source of energy that generates power by using a
dam or diversion structure to alter the natural flow of a river or other body of water. Hydropower
relies on the endless, constantly recharging system of the water cycle to produce electricity, using a
fuel—water—that is not reduced or eliminated in the process. There are many types of hydropower
facilities, though they are all powered by the kinetic energy of flowing water as it moves downstream.
Hydropower utilizes turbines and generators to convert that kinetic energy into electricity, which is
then fed into the electrical grid to power homes, businesses, and industries.
HOWDOWEGETENERGYFROMWATER:-
Water (hydropower and hydrokinetic)
Because hydropower uses water to generate electricity, plants are usually located on or near a
water source. The energy available from the moving water depends on both the volume of the
water flow and the change in elevation—also known as the head—from one point to another. The
greater the flow and the higher the head, the more the electricity that can be generated.
HOWEXACTLYIS ELECTRICITYGENERATEDATHYDROPOWERPLANTS?:-
At the plant level, water flows through a pipe—also known as a penstock—and then spins the
blades in a turbine, which, in turn, spins a generator that ultimately produces electricity. Most
conventional hydroelectric facilities operate this way, including run-of-the-river systems
and pumped storage systems.
WIND
• Wind power is cost-effective in many regions. In others, wind power needs to compete with other energy sources, but global
R&D efforts are working on solutions to reduce the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of both onshore and offshore wind
power.
• Another advantage to wind power is that it is a domestic source of energy, harnessing a limitless local resource. Some viable
locations for wind farms, however, are located remote areas that would present challenges in construction and electricity
transmission logistics. Technology breakthrough such as two-piece blades and modular construction are helping overcome
such challenges.
• An additional benefit of wind power is it is a sustainable source of energy, as wind turbine operation does not directly emit
any CO2 or greenhouse gases—helping countries meet their emission reduction targets and combating climate change. Wind
energy is plentiful, readily available, and capturing its power does not deplete our valuable natural resources. In fact, an
environmental benefit to wind power is its ability to counter the detrimental effects of climate change. The Global Wind
Energy Outlook projects that by 2030 wind energy will offset 2.5 billion tons per year of carbon….
