Hello!
I AM ANKIT SHARDA
I am here because I love to give presentations.

Introduction and Definition
◦ An Insecticide is a substance used to kill insects.
◦ They are toxic to human.
◦ Insecticides have a wide application in the field of
medicine, agriculture, and industry.
◦ Insecticides are classified into two types
◦ 1. Systemic Insecticides .
◦ 2. Contact Insecticides.
3
2. Difference systemic and contact Insecticides
◦ Systemic Insecticides- It can be
absorbed by a plant and move around
in its tissue .
◦ Result- result is high , long time result .
◦ Use Systemic Insecticide in monsoon
◦ Example – Imidacloprid
4
◦ Contact Insecticides – only contact with
leaves .
◦ Those chemicals which injure the target
organism by physical contact .
◦ Result –if the rainfall happen then the
result is low .
◦ Example – Cypermethrine ,Acephate.
5
Classification of Insecticides
◦ 1.Based on chemical composition.
◦ 2. Based on the mode of entry of
insecticide into the body of the insect.
◦ 3. Based on mode of action .
◦ 4. Based on toxicity .
◦ 5 Based on stage specificity
6
1. Based on chemical composition
◦ 1. Inorganic Insecticide.
◦ 2. organic Insecticide .
◦ 1. inorganic insecticide –these
compoundes are not carbon based .
These are made up of chemical
substances. They are harmful to soil and
other animals. Example-Copper
sulphate.
7
Based on chemical composition
◦ 2. Organic Insecticide – these compound
contain carbon based elements. These
are made up of natural substance.
These are not harmful to soil and other
animals . Example- neem oil , onion and
garlic spray .
8
2. Based on the mode of entry of the insecticides into the body
of the insect
◦ 1. Contact Poisons- those chemicals
which injure the target organism by
physical contact or skin absorption.
Example- DDT (causes skin problem)
◦ 2. Stomach Poisons – the insecticide
applied on the leaves and other parts of
plant when injested act on the digestive
system of the insect . Example –calcium
arsenta 9
. Based on the mode of entry of the insecticides into the body
of the insect
◦ 3. Fumigants- it is a chemical substance
which is volatile (uncertain) at ordinary
temperature and toxic to the insects .
◦ Example –Aluminium Phosphide , Carbon
disulphide.
◦ 4. Systemic Insecticides – the chemical is
soluble enough in water that it can be
absorbed by a plant and move around in
its tissue. Example- Acephate 10
3. Based on mode of action
nerve poisons
Physical
Poisons respiratory general
poisons poisons
11
4. Based on toxicity
12
5. Based on stages specificity
Pupicides
Ovicides
Larvicides
Adulticides
13
Based on stages specificity
◦ 1. ovicides- a substance or agent that kill
eggs , espically the eggs of insect ,mites.
◦ 2.larvicides- it is an insecticide that is
specifically targeted against that larval
life stages of an insect .
◦ 3. pupicides- it is an insecticide that is
specifically targeted against the pupa
of an insect
14
Based on stages specificity
◦ 4.Adulticides- A Pesticide designed to kill
adult insect rather then their larvae.
15
Thanks!
