OBJECTIVES
This program was designed to add impetus to the
solution of the sedentary development of the
country and to unleash the inspiration for
sustainability that resides within idealistic young
engineers. This day-long event was intended to
bring students together in order to inspire
creativity, ideas, strategies and relationships that
advance the wellbeing of our nation
The first objective of the conference was to
enable listening and learning from experience of
young engineer with the aim of creating stronger
links between these experiences and preparatory
steps to be taken in the context of development
agenda.
This was achieved by placing key leaders in
global development side by side with people
sharing experiences.
The second objective was to demonstrate the
tools that are to be employed in fast-tracking
the nation’s development. This is addressed
effectively by explicitly recognising and
introducing some software to the participants.

SESSION 1
Engineer Oladimeji Olutimehin enlightened the
audience on how young engineers can solve
problems innovatively. He emphasized that the
greatest skill a quintessential emerging engineer
needs in the 21st
century is the ability to
innovatively solve problems.
Innovative solution is the intersection between
what is desirable to people, what is possible with
technology and what is viable in the market place.
Innovation endows resources with the ability to
create wealth. Which means anytime engineers
provide innovative solutions to problems, wealth
will always be created.
Innovation is an intentional commitment to
designing solutions for real problems. It is the
commercialization of creativity to solve problem
innovatively, you need to embrace design. Design
is what links creativity and innovation. It shapes
ideas to become practical and attractive
propositions for people. To innovate means to
renew: introduce something new, make changes.
To create is to cause something to come into
being as something unique.
Design is not just how a solution looks like and
feels like but how it works. You cannot design
good solution if you do not understand people. It
must harmonize with human being’s strength,
dimensions, senses, behaviors, way of life, habits
and understanding.
TYPES OF DESIGNERS
(a) Anthropologist
Bring new insights to problem solving by
observing human behavior and developing a deep
understanding of how people interact physically
and emotionally with products and services.
(b) The Experimenter
Prototypes new ideas continuously, learning by a
process of enlightened trial and error. The love to
play, to try different ideas and approaches.
(c) The Cross-Bllinator
Explores other industries and cultures, then
translates those findings to fit the unique needs of
your organization. The copy or steal to adapt.
(d) The Hindler
Knows the path to innovation is strewn with
obstacles and develops a knack for overcoming or
outsmarting those road blocks.
(e) The Collaborators
Values the team over the individual and often
leads from the middle of the pack to create new
combinations and multi-disciplinary solutions.
(f) The Directors
No only gathers together a talented cast and crew,
but also helps to spark their creative talents.
(g) The Experience Architect
Designs compelling experiences that go beyond
mere functionality to connect at a deeper level
with customers’ talent or expressed needs.
(h) The set Designer
Creates a stage on which innovation team
members can do their best work, transforming
physical environments into powerful tools to
influence behavior and attitude.
"The best way to
dominate the future is
to design it"
(i) The storyteller
Builds both internal morale and external
awareness through compelling narrates that
communicate a fundamental human value or
reinforce a specific cultural trait.
Summarily, design is the means by which the
engineer either creates new wealth. Producing
resources with enhanced potential for creating
wealth. Design that end ups as innovation must be
human-centered. This is why we are introducing
the innovative problem solving and innovative
Design course. Engineers create products,
systems, and process to solve problems and meet
social needs.

  • 7. SESSION 1 Engineer Oladimeji Olutimehin enlightened the audience on how young engineers can solve problems innovatively. He emphasized that the greatest skill a quintessential emerging engineer needs in the 21st century is the ability to innovatively solve problems. Innovative solution is the intersection between what is desirable to people, what is possible with technology and what is viable in the market place. Innovation endows resources with the ability to create wealth. Which means anytime engineers provide innovative solutions to problems, wealth will always be created. Innovation is an intentional commitment to designing solutions for real problems. It is the commercialization of creativity to solve problem innovatively, you need to embrace design. Design is what links creativity and innovation. It shapes ideas to become practical and attractive propositions for people. To innovate means to renew: introduce something new, make changes. To create is to cause something to come into being as something unique. Design is not just how a solution looks like and feels like but how it works. You cannot design good solution if you do not understand people. It must harmonize with human being’s strength, dimensions, senses, behaviors, way of life, habits and understanding. TYPES OF DESIGNERS (a) Anthropologist Bring new insights to problem solving by observing human behavior and developing a deep understanding of how people interact physically and emotionally with products and services. (b) The Experimenter Prototypes new ideas continuously, learning by a process of enlightened trial and error. The love to play, to try different ideas and approaches. (c) The Cross-Bllinator Explores other industries and cultures, then translates those findings to fit the unique needs of your organization. The copy or steal to adapt. (d) The Hindler Knows the path to innovation is strewn with obstacles and develops a knack for overcoming or outsmarting those road blocks. (e) The Collaborators Values the team over the individual and often leads from the middle of the pack to create new combinations and multi-disciplinary solutions. (f) The Directors No only gathers together a talented cast and crew, but also helps to spark their creative talents. (g) The Experience Architect Designs compelling experiences that go beyond mere functionality to connect at a deeper level with customers’ talent or expressed needs. (h) The set Designer Creates a stage on which innovation team members can do their best work, transforming physical environments into powerful tools to influence behavior and attitude. "The best way to dominate the future is to design it"
  • 8. (i) The storyteller Builds both internal morale and external awareness through compelling narrates that communicate a fundamental human value or reinforce a specific cultural trait. Summarily, design is the means by which the engineer either creates new wealth. Producing resources with enhanced potential for creating wealth. Design that end ups as innovation must be human-centered. This is why we are introducing the innovative problem solving and innovative Design course. Engineers create products, systems, and process to solve problems and meet social needs.
