4. In today's fast-paced world, where technology plays a significant role in
various aspects of our lives, it comes as no surprise that even traditional
systems like canteens have undergone a digital transformation. The
emergence of the E-Canteen system has revolutionized the way we
order and manage food services in educational institutions, corporate
offices, and other establishments.
The E-Canteen system is a digital solution that streamlines the entire
process of food ordering, payment, and management within a canteen or
cafeteria. It leverages technology, particularly web-based platforms or
mobile applications, to enhance efficiency, convenience, and user
experience.
5. Importance of E-Canteen
system
Traditionally, canteens relied on manual processes for taking
orders, handling cash transactions, and managing orders.
These systems often faced challenges such as long queues,
human errors, inefficient record-keeping, and limited visibility
into real-time data. However, with the introduction of the E-
Canteen system, these challenges are being effectively
addressed.
With the E-Canteen system, customers can place their
orders online, through a dedicated website. They can
browse through the available menu, select their desired
items, through applying various filters, and proceed to the
payment process. The system accepts various payment
methods, including cashless options like digital wallets,
ensuring a hassle-free transaction experience.
One of the key advantages of the E-Canteen system is the
reduction in waiting time. While travelling customers can
pre-order their meals in advance while travelling, allowing
the canteen staff to prepare the food before their arrival at a
particular stoppage. This not only saves time but also
improves the overall efficiency of the canteen operations.
6. Problem Statement
The traditional canteen system has many limitations such as: -
1.Manual order taking leads to long queues and delays.
2.Cash handling is time-consuming and prone to errors.
3.Limited menu visibility makes it difficult for customers to
access up-to-date information.
To address these challenges, there is a need for a canteen
web application that offers streamlined ordering, cashless
transactions, a comprehensive menu and efficient order
management. The goal is to enhance customer satisfaction,
reduce operational inefficiencies, and improve overall
canteen management.
7. Technology andTools used
Technologies and tools used in building the efficient canteen web application are: -
1. HTML
2. CSS
3. Vue.JS
4. Node JS
5. MySQL
Tools used to implement these technologies are: -
1. Visual Studio Code
2. XAMPP
8. HTML: - HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is a fundamental
component in building a canteen web application. HTML provides the
basic structure to web application, it is used to create layout of our web
page.
CSS: - CSS is responsible for styling and visual presentation in web
development. It works in conjunction with HTML to define the
appearance of elements on a web page. In a canteen web application,
CSS is used to customize the visual aspects, such as colours, fonts,
layouts, and overall styling, to create an appealing and user-friendly
interface.
Vue.JS: - Vue.js is a JavaScript framework used for building user
interfaces. It enables the development of dynamic and interactive
components within a web application. In a canteen web application,
Vue.js is used to create a responsive interfaces.
9. Node JS: - Node.js is a JavaScript runtime environment that allows
server-side execution of JavaScript code. In a canteen web application,
Node.js is used to handle server-side logic and requests. It can manage
user authentication, process orders, interact with the database, and
handle other server-side operations. Node.js enables efficient and
scalable server-side development, ensuring the application's
functionality and performance.
MYSQL: - MySQL is a popular relational database management system.
In a canteen web application, MySQL is used to store and manage data
related to menus, orders, user information, and other relevant data. It
allows for efficient retrieval, storage, and manipulation of data through
SQL queries. MySQL provides a robust and secure solution for
managing the application's database, ensuring data integrity and
reliability.
10. Visual Studio Code: - Visual Studio Code (VS Code) is a lightweight and
versatile code editor. It offers a range of features that enhance the
development process, such as syntax highlighting, code completion,
debugging capabilities, and easy integration with version control systems.
XAMPP: - XAMPP is a cross-platform web server solution that bundles
Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl. It enables developers to set up a local
development environment on their machines. XAMPP simplifies the
installation and configuration of the necessary server components required to
run the canteen web application.
