Andy joined Varian in 1995 as a senior engineer in the
Brachytherapy business unit where he led the project
team to launch the company’s VariSource Afterloader
product to the market. After the successful VariSource
release he was promoted to manage the European
Brachytherapy engineering group. In this position Andy
led a cross-functional team in the UK and Germany and
managed many product releases incorporating
mechanics, electronics and software.

In 2008 Andy was promoted to manage Varian’s UK manufacturing organization where he was
responsible for production, supply chain, import/export, distribution, engineering, planning,
project management and facilities. Utilizing his engineering background and Lean 6-Sigma
techniques he delivered year-on-year process improvements and cost reductions while driving
up product quality. In 2012 Andy was transferred to Varian’s China headquarters in Beijing to
manage the rapid growth of that operation. In this role he added quality and R&D functions to
those already listed in the UK role.

Prior to joining Varian Andy worked for ten years in manufacturing and engineering roles at
Denley Instruments, a UK-based medical device company.

Andy holds a Master’s degree in manufacturing management and technology and is a chartered
member of the Institute of Operations Management. He holds a patent for an expanding multi-
lumen-applicator as primary inventor.

His rich experience in medical device design and manufacturing allows him to efficiently
manage complex new product development projects from concept through to routine
operations. A process-driven and professional manager, Andy has strong experience of
managing multiple functions in global locations, with a talent for managing people to achieve
excellent results.
