Painting around the home can be a messy
affair, especially with extended work that
runs into days and weeks. Dried paint tins,
hardened brushes and damaged roller pans
can result in costing more money for the
simplest of paint jobs. However, by using a
simple household item such as aluminium
foil household paint tasks can be made a
lot simpler, extending the life of your paint
tools and creating less DIY mess.
Preventing dried paint
How many times have you returned to a
half-used tin of paint and found a skin of
dried pain sitting on the surface? As well as
being a pain to remove, dried bits can also
get into your paint and potentially cause
further problems when applying your
paintwork.
An easy fix to avoid dried paint is to place a
piece of aluminium foil around the base of
the can and trace around it. Then cut out
the circle and drop the foil on to the paint
surface.
Before resealing the tin, take a deep
breath and blow into the tin before quickly
placing the lid. The carbon dioxide from
your breath will replace some of the
oxygen trapped in the can thus preventing
the paint from drying.
Prolong the life of your roller pan
Line a metal roller pan with aluminium
foil before applying paint to it. This
will be easier to clean when finishing
the job by simply removing the foil
and prolong the life of your roller pan.
Avoid Getting Paint on Door Handles
Wrapping door handles in foil helps
keep paint off them. Wrap the handle
with foil, then run a sharp utility
knife to the base of the handle in
order to trim the foil. You can then
paint right to the edge of the handle
without fear of covering it in paint.
Similarly, cover other handles on the
route to where you are washing hands
or brushes.
How Aluminium Foil Can Help Your
Work In Progress Brushes
Finally, if you haven’t finished
painting and are likely to be
continuing into the next day, squeeze
out the excess paint from your brush
and tightly wrap in aluminium foil.
Then use a rubber band to sure the
foil around the handle.
