4. When we first had the idea of promoting the Solent
region at the inaugural MIPIM UK, it was simply
that – an idea.
“We got Champions from the construction sector
around the table along with partners from the
public sector and before we knew it we had a
private sector led consortium with a £60k budget
to promote significant development opportunities
on a national and international scale.
“Building on the success of 2014, we will have a
£100k budget to go to MIPIM UK this year,

better promote the region
Business Southampton is launched with initial funding from SEEDA*
Southampton Cruise Partnership is formed - now known as the Solent
Maritime Cruise Forum - bringing together major names such as Carnival,
Royal Caribbean and ABP to discuss ship to shore priorities and work on a
project by project basis
Successfully delivered innovation projects worth £250,000 for Southampton
Business Southampton becomes financially self-sufficient through partnering
with Champions to shape the future of the economy in the region.
Future Southampton Action Group successfully campaigns for a Master Plan for
Southampton
Southampton Magazine is launched with editorial support from Business
Southampton
Work begins on developing the Discover Southampton portal - the official
website for Southampton. This is managed by Business South and enjoys
80,000 visitors each month
Southampton Master Plan is launched with the aim of generating up to 24,000
new jobs and 3bn investment over the next 20 years
With a growing number of Champions across the region, we evolve to become
Business South - and promote Go! Rhino, a street art trail supported by
businesses, which attracted 250,000 visitors and residents
Portsmouth and Southampton. The Solent - we persuade the two great
coastal cities to come together and jointly promote the region as a great place
to live and work at the inaugural MIPIM UK
HR Forum publishes report on City Deal Transitional Employment Programme.
A major survey of the Champion response to devolution is commissioned from
think tank, the Southern Policy Centre

7. what’s coming up IN THE YEAR AHEAD?
We listen to our Champions and we have designed
a Champion Programme that allows businesses
to gain the maximum benefit from being involved.
Forums
Business South has a number of forums that allow
Champions to pick up the latest intelligence and have
your say on important issues affecting the region.
In 2015/16 we will:

HR Forum
Led by HR thought leader and former
HR Director for Ford UK, Geoff Glover,
the HR Forum pulls together Human

and business people interested in the
people agenda, with a view to driving

Regenerate South
Developers’ Forum
Regenerate South group consists of
professionals from within the property
sector whose collective expertise
can be utilised in order to unlock,
promote and facilitate the delivery of
key privately owned, commercial and
mixed-use development sites.
The aim is to showcase the region’s
development opportunities and its
attractive and competitive business
environment on a national and
international level at key property
events such as MIPIM UK and the
Regenerate South Conference.
Solent Maritime Cruise
Forum
The focus of the Business South
Solent Maritime Forum is on the
‘shore-side’ priorities, opportunities
and challenges faced by the cruise
industry and its supply chains in the
South Coast region from Portsmouth
to Portland. There is specific focus
on Southampton as the Home Port
‘Capital’ of Cruise in Northern
Europe.
The aims of the Cruise Forum are
to grow business jobs, increase
investment, improve infrastructure
and transport solutions, develop
supply chains, improve customer
service, provide business
development opportunities, promote
the South Coast for business and
tourism and facilitate strategic
development of the Cruise Cluster for
the benefit of the region.
8. Business South Events = OUTCOMES
We see our events as the means to share information
and insights with our Champions – and it is a great
way for you to meet fellow Champions. In 2014 we
held 52 events and welcomed 2069 delegates from
our Champion network.
Our events programme includes conferences,
seminars, thought-leadership debates and exclusive
themed dinners.
