commissionedtomanufacturerthe Palace of Versailles’famousGlassMirrors. A lothas changed
since 1665. Throughout 2015, we’re celebratingSaint-Gobain’s350th
anniversary,itshistory,andthe
legacy of the menandwomenwhotogetherhave builtthe longeststandingcompany onthe CAC40
Frenchstock marketindex andone of the longestservingmanufacturingcompaniesinthe world.
One celebrationactivity takingplace isachallenge whichwill see 130UK ridersfromacross the
Saint-GobainGroup,cycle 425 milesinfourdaysfromLondon to Blois inthe Loire Valley,France.
The cyclistswill leave London,locationof the Saint-GobainInnovationCentre, onJuly 10th
andarrive
on July13th
at the Saint-GobainArchivesinBlois –home of the records signedbyKingLouisXIV,
whichincorporated Saint-Gobainin1665.
A bigchallenge,suchasthis, isa great opportunityto raise fundsinsupportof the Saint-Gobain
Togetherprogramme.
My Story
I begancyclingtwoyearsago, whenI signedupfora 200-mile bike ride , I didn’tevenhave abike !!
Andhad to borrowmy matesdads,( whichremindsme ,I needtogive himitback )
I now try to get20 – 30 milesanightunder mybelt in preparation for thisride , that’sa big
sacrifice whenyou’ve afamilyandfull time job.
Cancer affectsusall,eitherpersonallyor aswe supportour lovedones.MacmillanCancerSupport
doesan amazingjobinthe UK – somethingI’ve recentlystartedtoexperience first-handasmymum
and heryoungestbrotherwere diagnosed withCancerjustbefore Christmas ,andalsoour assistant
branch managerhere at JewsonWhitby ,KevinGrahamwho, afterbeendiagnosedwithcanceron
his47th
birthday sadlylosthisbattle lastmonth just8 weeksafterbeengiventhe news.
Hopefullymymum,havinghadsurgeryisnow onthe mend,her brother ispoorlybut battlingon,
so we all have our fingerscrossedforhim,so 100 milesaday to raise moneyforthese great
charities isthe leastIcoulddo .

2. The Saint-Gobain Together programme
SinceSaint-Gobain launched its ‘Together’ programme in 2002,named ‘Together’ to represent its ambition to bring
colleagues,suppliers,and customers together for a good cause,the partnership has raised over £2.5 million for
charities as diverseas:Great Ormond Street Hospital,Wish Upon a Star, Cancer Research UK, the British Heart
Foundation and Barnardo's.
SinceJanuary 2014, after an election involvingall 17,500 employees the ‘Together’ programme has been supporting
Macmillan Cancer Supportand the Irish Cancer Society raisingnearly £500,000.
